Aim: The aim of the present study was to assess the gender variations in weight control behaviors amongst undergraduates in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, South-South, Nigeria. Materials and methods: The study involved 600 apparently healthy students (including 249 males and 351 females) who responded to an interviewer-administered questionnaire. Results: The results showed that the weight control strategies applied by undergraduates are typically aimed at either maintaining or reducing their present body weight. More of the males are satisfied with their weight and would engage in regular exercise to maintain it. Females had a high tendency to be dissatisfied with their body weight and shape and would associate their overweight with overfeeding. Although exercise was the most common weight control measure adopted by both male and female respondents, only 20.5% of them engaged in regular exercise. 51.4% of subjects did not consider applying any weight control measure necessary. Dietary restriction was more commonly adopted by females. The most commonly skipped meal by both male and female undergraduates was lunch. However, more females skipped dinner in other to lose weight. Conclusion: The present study suggests that body weight perception is a very important determinant of weight control behavior. Social acceptance is a common phenomenon amongst female undergraduates who are also more concerned about their body weight and shape.","PeriodicalId":50132,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47819275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its frequency is estimated at 1 per 10,000 live births. It is associated with a high fetal mortality rate (40-95%) and significant maternal mortality. The association of uterine malformation and ectopic pregnancy type cornuale is described in the literature, but the abdominal type appears to be exceptional. The authors describe a case of abdominal pregnancy associated with uterine malformation type unicornus uterus class II of ASRM (unicornuate uterus with a rudimentary controlateral uterus), of which the diagnosis was made when a complication occured.","PeriodicalId":50132,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46830587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a basic but critical first aid skill to rescue patients with sudden cardiac arrest. This study aimed to ascertain whether the mind mapping technique, a note-taking and graphic thinking tool, could improve the learning of CPR among medical interns. [Methods] A total of 79 medical interns rotating in the emergency department in our center were selected as research participants. They were randomly divided into the control group (n=40) and the experimental group (n=39). The control group was trained with traditional PowerPoint (PPT) slide courseware combined with practical operations, while the experimental group was trained with mind mapping technique on the basis of traditional PPT courseware combined with practical operations. The theoretical test, operational assessment, and the survey regarding the satisfaction with the training were conducted between the two groups of interns after training. [Results] Although the interns in both groups mastered the CPR technique successfully with theoretical and operational assessment scores >90 (out of 100), the experimental group performed significantly better in both theoretical tests (score: 96.13±2.47 vs 93.71±4.48, p=0.0041) and operational assessment (score: 94.82±3.22 vs 91.32±3.46, p<0.0001). Moreover, all interns (100%) in the experimental group were satisfied with the CPR training experience, while only 75% of the interns in the control group were satisfied with the training. [Conclusions] Mind maps as a supplementary teaching tool could facilitate CPR learning for medical interns and improve their learning interest.","PeriodicalId":50132,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical Research","volume":"59 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89571755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its clinical characteristics vary among different patients. Herein we report a case of OVSS with difficulty in defecation as the initial symptom and diagnosed with ultrasound and laparoscopic exploration. This 13-year-old girl was admitted to our hospital with the complaint of difficulty in defecation for more than 1 month and difficulty in urination for 6 days. Her ultrasound test showed that the left kidney was not displayed, and the right kidney was compensatory enlargement. A giant cystic-solid mass (110 mm × 96 mm × 87 mm) was seen in the pelvic cavity. Under laparoscopy, a huge mass was seen in the abdominal cavity. The surface resembled the seromuscular layer of the uterus. A uterine organ was seen on both sides of the tumor, and both fallopian tubes and ovaries were connected. The size of the right uterus was about 3 cm × 2 cm. The right fallopian tube and ovary were normal in appearance. The left uterus was enlarged (about 6 cm x 5 cm). The left fallopian tube was enlarged and contained a large amount of brown blood stains, and blood stains were seen flowing out from the umbrella end. The hysteroscopic incision and repair surgery were then performed. Most patients with OVSS presented with dysmenorrhea, abdominal pain, pelvic mass, and foul mucopurulent discharge, while in this case, difficulty in defecation was the initial symptom. Thus, this case report provided evidence supporting the heterogeneity of this disorder.","PeriodicalId":50132,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical Research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90724931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

[Methods] From November to December 2021, 414 nurses from 18 departments of the Surgery Department of Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center participated in this practical study. Each nurse experienced the perioperative stretcher transportation service in the role of a patient, and experienced the whole process of being transferred from the ward to the operating room by the nursing staff, and then back to the original department. The whole process was recorded with photos and videos, and educational micro movies were made by department as a unit. [Results] Through this practice project, 17 disadvantageous factors (in 5 categories) affecting the quality of stretcher transportation service were summarized and 26 improvement measures were formulated. A total of 17 educational micro movies were released online by 18 departments; as of the end of December 2021, these movies have reached 113,994 views. 84.62% of nurses were satisfied or very satisfied with this practice project, and they believed that this new approach could help improve the quality of perioperative stretcher transportation service.
