Methods: The 2015 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) survey was used in this study. Logistic regression was adopted to examine the relationship between AIP, calculated as log (TG/HDL), and stroke. Subgroup analysis was used to further explore the associated factors. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression was adopted to estimate the non-linear association. Receiver operator characteristic (ROC) analysis was utilized to calculate the cutoff value of AIP. Results: In this study, 13,027 participants aged 45 years above were enrolled. The odds ratios in the fully adjusted logistic model across the quartiles of AIP were 1.00 (reference), 1.09 (95% CI 0.69–1.72), 1.62 (95% CI 1.06–2.49), 1.07 (1.08–2.58), respectively. Non-linear association between AIP and stroke was not found using RCS regression (p for non-linearity > 0.05). The subgroup analyses showed that the association between AIP and stroke varied in different gender, alcohol and cigarette consumption, but the interaction effects were insignificant (all p > 0.05). The cutoff value of AIP was 0.82, and the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.57. Conclusion: Elevated AIP is significantly associated with the increased risk of stroke in the middle- aged and elderly Chinese, indicating that AIP may be a predictive factor for stroke among the Chinese middle-aged and elderly.","PeriodicalId":49757,"journal":{"name":"Neurology Asia","volume":"5 49","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139194023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Patient files of 87 children with intellectual disability were evaluated in this study. After clinical exclusion criterias, clinical exome sequencing was performed for 25 of 87 intellectual disability cases with a massively parallel targeted sequencing method. Seventeen variants in the genes MBOAT7, KDM5C, TUBB3, MAN1B1, GFAP, CACNA1A, BCOR, LMNA, LBR, ALS2, ENPP1, UBE3A, TRAPPC9, HSPG2, AFF2, NLGN4, and SOX10 were identified in 14 of 25 patients (56%). Seven of the 17 variants (41.1%) were novel in the genes KDM5C, BCOR, UBE3A, TRAPPC9, AFF2, NLGN4, and SOX10. Seven cases (7/25, 28%) had a definite diagnosis of intellectual disability with their pathogenic variants. The high rate of variant detection (56%) in the current study shows that multiple gene analysis plays an essential role in diagnosing the uncertain etiology of intellectual disability. This study also presents seven novel variants, which are first reported.","PeriodicalId":49757,"journal":{"name":"Neurology Asia","volume":"264 22-25","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139194839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mirror-image dextrocardia combined with acute large-artery occlusive stroke is extremely rare in clinical practice. We present here a 67-year- old woman with complete blockage in her left middle cerebral artery. The patient also had a mirror- image dextrocardia. In this report, we share our experience in treating the patient using mechanical thrombectomy. During her visit to the emergency department, we performed various tests to understand the patient’s anatomy. Based on the findings, we decided to approach the femoral artery. Using a combination of stent thrombectomy and intermediate catheter aspiration, we successfully restored blood flow to the patient’s left middle cerebral artery.","PeriodicalId":49757,"journal":{"name":"Neurology Asia","volume":"434 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139195514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We aimed to investigate the most common disorders which resulted in the clinicians from the Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Reproductive Medicine (GORM) to ask for neurology consultation from the Department of Neurology. Methods: All the neurology consultations requested from the Department of GORM between 2015 and 2023 at Harran University Hospital, Sanliurfa, Turkey, were retrospectively evaluated with regard to demographic characteristics, the reason for referral, neurologic diagnoses, and treatment, imaging features. SPSS statistical software version 22 (IBM Inc. NC, USA) was used to perform all statistical analyses. Results: There were 333 patients with a mean age of 32.5 years (range 17-68) seeking consultations; 287 had obstetric problems, and 46 had gynecological issues. In the obstetric group, pre-eclampsia and Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES) were the most frequent final neurological diagnoses, while headache and acute cerebrovascular disease were the most common frequent problems in the gynecological group. The number of consultations rose from 23 in 2015 to 66 in 2022. The predicted rate of final diagnosis of GORM residents was 58%. The neurologist’s contribution has substantial influence on the management of 208 (62%) patients. Conclusion: Neurologists have a significant contribution to the management of GORM inpatients. In neurological training, importance should be given to the effect of hormonal changes on neurological diseases in neurology training.","PeriodicalId":49757,"journal":{"name":"Neurology Asia","volume":"12 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139189381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to analyze YouTube videos about SR in terms of the information value and quality. Methods: On YouTube.com; the word “SR” was searched in September 6th, 2021. The listed first 100 videos were classified according to count of like, dislike, source of upload, origin of country and contents of SR. Quality, reliability and accuracy of the videos were determined with Global Quality Score (GQS), Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) benchmark criteria and Modified DISCERN questionnaire, respectively. Results: According to the results of the study, 59 low quality, 28 medium quality, and 13 high-quality videos were determined. Eighty one percent of the videos contained insufficient data. Academic and physician-sourced videos comprised the majority (84.7%) of the high-quality group. A statistically significant result was found between the video sources and the number of views, likes, dislikes, comments, and video duration (p<0.05). A weak positive correlation was found between video durations and GQS (r=0.671), JAMA benchmark criteria (r=0.665), modified DISCERN (r=0.701) scores (p<0.001). Conclusion: Our results showed that most of the YouTube videos on SR have poor quality and insufficient data. High-quality videos have a longer duration and are uploaded by academic and physician video sources. YouTube can be considered an alternative resource besides tele rehabilitation for patients who need SR and whose health care was interrupted during the COVID pandemic. It can be said that higher-quality videos created by health professionals will be more useful for patient education in future.","PeriodicalId":49757,"journal":{"name":"Neurology Asia","volume":"50 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139192525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: A prospective, randomized, case crossover design was employed. One hundred fifty-nine (159) patients who were diagnosed as having primary HFS with BTX treatment in the botulinum toxin clinic were randomized during the period from May 2017 to November 2017. Patients were divided into two groups – with cold compression and without cold compression before BTX injection and then evaluated for the severity and frequency of HSF using the Jankovic Rating Scale and quality of life questionnaire. Immediate complications after injection such as pain and bleeding were also assessed. Results: Cold compression before BTX injection significantly decreased the severity and frequency of HFS (p<0.001). Pain in cases where cold compression was used before BTX injection was significantly lower than in those cases not receiving cold compression (p<0.001). Satisfaction scores and bleeding were significantly different (p<0.001). Quality of life was significantly improved after treatment with BTX (p<0.001). Conclusion: Cold compression before BTX injection can improve the efficacy of treatment by reducing severity and frequency. This study confirms previous studies that using cold compression before BTX injection results in a good outcome in relation to satisfaction and bleeding. No significant complications were found. Additionally, BTX injection can also improve quality of life in hemifacial spasm patients.","PeriodicalId":49757,"journal":{"name":"Neurology Asia","volume":"14 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139188946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
