A total of 268 older adults completed two rounds of surveys, including the General Information Questionnaire, the Attitudes to Aging Questionnaire, and the WHO Quality of Life-Brief. Psychosocial loss-psychological health and physical change-physical health were the strongest edges during the \"chaotic period\" and \"adjustment period,\" respectively. The cross-lagged network revealed that QoL significantly predicted attitudes to aging, and the most influential dimension was environmental health. Findings suggest that there is a need to support older adults in psychologically adapting to life in nursing homes quickly during the \"chaotic period\" and to assist those experiencing negative physical change during the \"adjustment period\" by encouraging physical activity. The cross-lagged panel network indicates that we need to help older adults rapidly familiarize themselves with new surroundings when they first move into nursing homes.</p>","PeriodicalId":49730,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Health Sciences","volume":"27 1","pages":"e70078"},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2025-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143598143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study thereby contributes to addressing the research gap on reducing impacts of resource-intensive care environments by exploring how ICU teams perceive and approach environmental sustainability in their practice. A descriptive qualitative design was utilized, involving semi-structured interviews with 19 ICU nurses and nurse managers and 5 ICU physicians. Data analysis followed the Colaizzi seven-step method. The findings revealed a significant understanding of the concept of sustainability among ICU teams, with participants highlighting key areas such as recycling, energy efficiency, and waste management. However, challenges like resistance to change, limited funding, and competing priorities were identified as significant barriers to implementing sustainability in praxis. This study underscores the importance of a multifaceted approach to achieving environmental sustainability in ICUs, involving collaborative efforts, clear communication, training, and leadership commitment. It is crucial to address financial constraints, promote sustainable procurement practices, and create a strong business case for environmental sustainability.</p>","PeriodicalId":49730,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Health Sciences","volume":"27 1","pages":"e70071"},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2025-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143544085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studies published between 2019 and 2024 were systematically identified through searches in Scopus, PubMed, Medline, ScienceDirect, CINAHL Plus with Full Text, Clinical Key, Ovid, EMBASE, and Web of Science. The review adhered to PRISMA guidelines, with rigorous inclusion and exclusion criteria applied. A total of 734 records were retrieved, with 18 duplicates removed, leaving 716 articles for screening. Of these, 699 did not meet the inclusion criteria. Full-text review of 17 articles excluded five studies, resulting in 12 studies included in the final analysis. The synthesis revealed five key diagnostic features commonly utilized in ML models: chest x-rays, computed tomography scans, sputum smear images, human exhaled breath, and personal information. Among 13 identified ML algorithms, convolutional neural networks were the most frequently employed due to their superior performance in analyzing imaging data. However, their lived experiences remain underexplored. Therefore, we conducted a descriptive qualitative study to explore and describe their lives. The participants were purposively sampled, older patients (≥ 65 years) with advanced cancer who lived alone and were receiving outpatient cancer chemotherapy. Semi-structured interviews were conducted using an interview guide, and thematic analysis was applied. There were 12 participants. Nine categories and 49 subcategories were extracted. The core category was \"Getting by through endurance, ingenuity, and effort in one's increasingly fragile 'own vessel,' in order to survive a little longer and fulfill one's life.\" Effective support should not only address their challenges, but also respect their convictions, leverage their strengths, and enhance their self-efficacy. Further, early implementation of advance care planning (ACP) is crucial to proactively identify the needs of these patients, who rarely express their concerns. This approach facilitates their transition from full independence to autonomy, enabling them to choose and integrate necessary support into their daily lives.</p>","PeriodicalId":49730,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Health Sciences","volume":"27 1","pages":"e70076"},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2025-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11893514/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143598157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The enhancing transparency in reporting the synthesis of qualitative research statements and Sandelowski and Barroso's guidelines guided this review. Quality appraisal of included studies was conducted using the Critical Appraisal Skills Program tool. Data were thematically synthesized. Confidence in review findings was evaluated using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation-Confidence in the Evidence from Reviews of Qualitative research approach. Three main themes were identified from the 24 included studies: (1) Being a nurse: An occupational hazard towards self-care, (2) Catalyst towards self-care, and (3) Call to action. Nurses' poor engagement in self-care practices were due to work-related challenges (e.g., working hours), poor self-care awareness, and negative influence from their colleagues and leaders.
