The author here delves into the metaphorical experience of <i>living on the edge</i> and the paradoxical concepts that assist the discipline in its thinking about artificial intelligence. Possible ethical implications of utilizing artificial intelligence from a humanbecoming ethos of understanding is utilized. Adequate representation of diverse populations is necessary to advance science and health equity. A multimodal research approach (research team composition, flyers, social media, and purposive sampling) was used. Nurses, through their presence, listen to expressions that form the basis of patients' stories and what is important. Active listening necessitates the use of various skills, including the elimination of preconceptions, reflecting on patients' words, clarifying statements, maintaining eye contact, effectively utilizing silence, and focusing on employing techniques for the development of trusting relationships. A group of 12 students, along with one faculty member, of a public college's nursing program completed an 8-day trip focused on nursing in the Dominican Republic. The trip used a for-profit third-party provider, and it was hosted by a non-governmental organization. Reflective surveys were completed by students and faculty, evaluating various aspects of the trip, including preparation, lodging, and overall educational experience. The survey results indicated overall satisfaction but also included areas of dissatisfaction with organizational aspects. However, its use in healthcare comes with a number of challenges and concerns. The authors of this article use the sociotechnical model to consider the expanding use of AI in nursing and healthcare from a global perspective. Select references from the literature are used to support this important discussion for nurses and other healthcare professionals. Artificial intelligence is a major innovation that, if used properly, can reduce errors and improve efficiency and healthcare quality. It has also been shown to increase patient support, healthcare access and patient care.
