As with other business decision‐making problems, pricing unfolds in a highly competitive and uncertain environment. Traditional analyses in this area have heavily relied on game theory and its variants. However, an important drawback of these approaches is their reliance on common knowledge assumptions, which are hardly tenable in competitive business domains. This paper introduces an innovative personalized pricing framework designed to assist decision‐makers in undertaking pricing decisions amidst competition, considering both buyer's and competitors' preferences. Our approach (i) establishes a coherent framework for modeling competition mitigating common knowledge assumptions; (ii) proposes a principled method to forecast competitors' pricing and customers' purchasing decisions, acknowledging major business uncertainties; and (iii) encourages structured thinking about the competitors' problems, thus enriching the solution process. To illustrate these properties, in addition to a general pricing template, we outline two specifications—one from the retail domain and a more intricate one from the pension fund domain.","PeriodicalId":49176,"journal":{"name":"International Transactions in Operational Research","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.1,"publicationDate":"2024-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142268131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Initially, is optimized within the feasible solution set of the MOIP. A new efficiency test combining Benson's test with is then developed using an auxiliary optimization program. This program provides both an efficient solution and a lower bound for . Moreover, this solution is the best one for when compared to its alternative solutions for MOIP. Subsequently, efficient cuts are incorporated into the criteria space to eliminate dominated points. Furthermore, the algorithm is tailored to handle scenarios where the objective involves optimizing a linear combination of multiobjective programming criteria over the nondominated set. The study concludes by showcasing the superior performance of the proposed two algorithms through comparison with existing approaches on well‐known problem instances from the literature.","PeriodicalId":49176,"journal":{"name":"International Transactions in Operational Research","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.1,"publicationDate":"2024-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142250151","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It sets EU‐level goals for seven indicators, which should be achieved within a given timeframe. Previous researchers have shown that the national capacity of some countries to implement measurement standards can lag behind the ambition of EU‐level goals. This paper aims to propose a benchmarking approach to set country‐specific targets and identify different strategies for improving national performance toward strategic objectives. We proposed a benefit‐of‐doubt approach that incorporates information on EU‐level goals and employed it with the most recent data for 29 European countries. The model solves a bi‐objective problem that imposes two objectives of closeness, namely that between actual performances and targets (effort) and that between targets and EU‐level goals (adjustment). Managers involved in planning may choose the most appropriate plan based on targets common to all countries or others that consider individual circumstances.","PeriodicalId":49176,"journal":{"name":"International Transactions in Operational Research","volume":"3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.1,"publicationDate":"2024-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142250152","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, based on the investment decision of the <jats:italic>ex ante</jats:italic> product information delivery measure, we study how to solve this problem for a platform‐based supply chain that consists of an online platform and an online seller. According to which firm is responsible for building the product information delivery measure, two possible cases are considered under a game‐theoretic model: the platform‐led case and the seller‐led case. The basic results reveal that compared with the seller‐led product information delivery, the platform‐led case may lead to a higher matching probability for consumers, a higher profit for the whole supply chain, and a win‐win outcome for the platform and the seller. The basic results can still hold when the platform and the seller cooperate under the format of the proportional commission fee, the two firms have different investment efficiencies in the improvement of product information delivery, or consumers have to incur hassle costs to learn the product match probability. When product return is allowed, it is shown that the return policy can play a positive role in making the seller‐led case become a win‐win choice. When the joint investment of product information delivery between the two firms can be formed, the results show that the joint investment may achieve a higher matching probability and higher profits for both the seller and the platform.","PeriodicalId":49176,"journal":{"name":"International Transactions in Operational Research","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.1,"publicationDate":"2024-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142216750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the same time, some platforms share consumers’ preference information to help manufacturers in producing suitable products. In this paper, we consider a scenario where a platform sells its private label product directly and the manufacturer sells its national brand product through the platform. This study mainly investigates the platform's preference‐sharing strategy. We find that a win–win situation between the platform and manufacturer occurs when the proportion taken by the platform is high, information accuracy is low, and adjustment cost is extremely low. Otherwise, a lose–win, win–lose, or lose–lose scenario may arise. Furthermore, when the adjustment cost is extremely high or low, information sharing can be arranged through some payments. Finally, the study demonstrates that sharing preference information can either increase or decrease consumer surplus and social welfare.","PeriodicalId":49176,"journal":{"name":"International Transactions in Operational Research","volume":"52 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.1,"publicationDate":"2024-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142216749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
