However, Copernicus also brought forward another revolution, using rhetoric in science as a powerful tool to persuade a skeptical public. Both natural sciences and philosophy have prided themselves on a rigorous and objective approach to acquiring knowledge about nature. This ideal scientific method has been a cornerstone of scientific inquiry for centuries. However, ironically, scientific publications are considered literature and contain distinctive rhetoric that persuades readers beyond logical reasoning and experimentation. Two of Copernicus’ works, On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres (De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium) and Little Commentary (Commentariolus), are distinguished examples of such a phenomenon. By investigating the application and effect of rhetoric in Copernicus’ works, one can gain insights into the persuasive aspects of scientific communication while highlighting the sociocultural obstacles Copernicus faced during his time.","PeriodicalId":486045,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication Studies","volume":"137 36","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139387515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They not only commemorate those who have passed away but also reflect the attitudes of the living towards death. Different countries have developed diverse cultural norms regarding death. In ancient China, death was seriously regarded, leading to complex funeral ceremonies and traditions within traditional Chinese culture. This study aims to investigate the attitudes of contemporary Chinese individuals towards death-related messages. Stimuli for the study consisted of images featuring tombstones of well-known figures, encompassing both Chinese and foreign celebrities. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two experimental groups: Group 1 and Group 2. Both groups were exposed to the same series of images. However, Group A received explicit instruction highlighting the death or funeral of the celebrity associated with each tombstone, with the images labeled as “The Tomb of XYZ.”Conversely, Group 2 was not given specific emphasis on death-related information but was introduced to the carving art of the monuments, with the images labeled as “The Chinese/ Western Monument.” An eye-tracking device was employed throughout the experiment to track participants’ gaze patterns and collect quantitative data. The results revealed that participants in Group 1 exhibited longer fixation durations on labeling information than Group 2, indicating that individuals are responsive to death-related information. Furthermore, participants in Group 1 demonstrated shorter average fixation durations when observing Chinese tombstones compared to Western tombstones, suggesting that participants experienced a higher cognitive load when interpreting Chinese tombstones. This finding implies that participants may harbor greater unease regarding death-related information rooted in Chinese cultural backgrounds. These research findings contribute to a deeper understanding of how people perceive death and offer insights that can be applied in death education.","PeriodicalId":486045,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication Studies","volume":"91 27","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139388255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the experiment, children in the treatment group were randomly placed in solitary confinement for attacking others. It is expected that Intermittent costs will reduce children’s aggressive behavior. The paper will also explore how Intermittent Cost and Reward work in the brain, finding that when people experience pleasurable stimuli, the brain starts secreting dopamine, so much so that it affects our behavior and expectations. In addition, experiments have found that when rewards are intermittent, the brain experiences higher arousal levels. This explains why people always crave cookies or continue to use social media and gamble. Finally, this paper will also discuss the possible application of Intermittent Cost and Reward in different aspects, which can help us formulate some policies and increase the flexibility of users.","PeriodicalId":486045,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication Studies","volume":"53 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139389081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, research has suggested that aerobic exercise may have a positive impact on mood regulation and the alleviation of negative emotions. This study employs eye tracking as a measurement tool to investigate the influence of acute aerobic exercise on cognitive performance. Participants were randomly assigned to exercise and non-exercise groups. Those in the exercise group engaged in a five-minute session of acute aerobic exercise, followed by a return to normal heart rates. Subsequently, exercise and non-exercise group participants completed reading comprehension tasks, during which an eye tracker tracked their eye movements. According to the eye-tracking results, acute aerobic exercise did not significantly improve participants’ cognitive task performance.Meanwhile, it was found that short time and high-intensity exercise negatively affected attentional shifting during the tasks. Participants in the exercise group exhibited delayed attentional transfer. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by shedding light on the intricate relationship between acute aerobic exercise and cognitive performance. The findings offer recommendations for brief exercise breaks during work or study. Moreover, it is a valuable resource for researchers by offering new insights and methodologies for future investigations.","PeriodicalId":486045,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication Studies","volume":"6 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139389303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It’s been proven statistically and mathematically that the white sides are more likely to win due to offensive advantage. Nonetheless, utilizing numerous defensive gambits, the black enhances its chances of succeeding, among which the Sicilian defense ranks the top. Characterized by asymmetrical arrangements, the Sicilian defense carves the path for the queen while not waiving to occupy central positional advantages. Dating back to its origin in the 16th century, it has prevailed since the mid-20th century and has now developed its most complex variations in response to white’s first move, “e4”. In this research, whether there is a significant difference in the winning rate of each variation is examined, and the payoffs for them are evaluated mathematically for a theoretically optimized strategy.","PeriodicalId":486045,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication Studies","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139389422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The gaze of both same-sex and opposite-sex individuals can contribute to heightened body anxiety. Body anxiety is not merely a personal concern but also a collective societal issue. This study investigates people’s attention bias towards different body shapes, employing small and plus-size models as stimuli. Participants were presented with images of plus-size and small-size models wearing identical clothing. Both female and male models were included in the stimuli. Participants’ gaze patterns were recorded using an eye-tracking device, yielding quantified attention-related gaze results. Statistical analyses revealed that participants exhibited a higher level of attention towards small-size models, as evidenced by significantly longer fixation durations and higher fixation counts. Subsequent gender-based analyses demonstrated that female and male participants spent more time viewing small female models than male models. This finding suggests that participants placed a greater emphasis on female body figures and exhibited a preference for slim figures. At the same time, a greater tolerance towards male body figures was demonstrated. These results provide valuable insights into attention bias in body figures and gender differences.","PeriodicalId":486045,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication Studies","volume":"119 17","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139387823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
