Materials and Methods: A total of 30 sound natural human premolars were used and were divided into three groups (10 teeth in each group); Group 1 (control group) without any applications, Group 2 coated with fluoride varnish, and Group 3 treated with a diode laser. Samples were then subjected to a cariogenic solution for 1 week. The labial surfaces for each group were evaluated under a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to evaluate the morphological changes that occurred on all enamel surfaces. Results : The collected data were subjected to One-Way ANOVA followed by Tukey‘s honestly significant difference test, and the results revealed a significant difference in the average mean intensity between the control group (Group 1) and the laser-treated group (Group 3), as well as between the control group and the fluoride-treated group (Group 2), while the least statistically significant result was recorded for Group 1 (control group). Conclusions: According to the SEM images, preventive effect of Fluoride for WSLs on enamel surface remains better than that of the diode laser (940 nm).","PeriodicalId":483969,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Orthodontic Journal","volume":" 43","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138612631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology has been established in dentistry, its potential use in fixed retainer therapy has not been investigated. The aim of this in vitro study is to compare the mechanical properties of conventionally fixed lingual retainers to those virtually designed and machine-made using digital CAD/CAM technology. Materials and methods : The study involved producing twenty, three-dimensional, identical printed wax models using the Varseo S 3D printer (BEGO, Bremen, Germany) with VarseoWax Model Material (BEGO, Bremen, Germany). Two groups were categorized, differing in the manufacturing process and material of the lingual retainer. The first group used CAD/CAM technology to produce the retainers, while the second group used conventional stainless-steel wires. The retainers were attached to the lingual surface of the lower front teeth and subjected for a mechanical fracture test using the Zwick/Roell Z010 universal testing machine (Zwick/Roell, Ulm, Germany). The dental arch was then loaded labially to evaluate the fracture strength of the lingual retainer. Results : Statistical analysis was performed using Sigma Plot 13.0 (Systat, San Jose, USA), and no significant differences were found between the two groups (p>0.05). Conclusion : This study found no significant difference in mechanical properties between the VarseoSmile Crown plus (BEGO, Bremen, Germany) material and conventional stainless-steel wire for lingual retainers.","PeriodicalId":483969,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Orthodontic Journal","volume":" 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138620686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This process may be a risk factor for the development of gingival recessions, which are 5.8-11.5% common in orthodontically treated patients. The purpose of our study was to assess the changes in the alveolar bone at the level of lower central incisors in adolescent and adult patients after orthodontic tooth movements using CBCT (Cone beam computed tomography) scans. This review's criteria were met by 20 pts out of a total of 47. Retraction of lower incisors was carried out utilizing buccal shelf miniscrews by two en masse retraction techniques to assure full control of tipping movements during orthodontic treatment, the distance from the cementoenamel junction to marginal bone crest was measured before starting space closure and after 6 months. In both types of retraction techniques, the difference in the bone loss was greater on the lingual side of the incisors, especially in Group 1 which utilized a continuous elastomeric chain extended along the main archwire it was comparable to the retraction of lower anteriors within the chain connected to a hook attached to the wire at the level of the centre of resistance of lower anterior teeth between lower lateral and canine although the G1 had a higher retractive effect on lingual bone as compared to G2 (P value= 0.036). The lingual bone movement after retraction showed no statistically significant difference between both groups.","PeriodicalId":483969,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Orthodontic Journal","volume":" 34","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138613647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: This study evaluated 38 cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images obtained pre (T0) and post (T1) treatment from 19 adult patients who underwent maxillary molar distalization using Invisalign aligners (Align Technology, Inc., San José, CA, USA) with at least 2mm distalization. Only those who wore the aligner for at least 22 hours daily were included in the study. Sinus proximity and the changes in tip, torque and rotation were measured for 61 molars. Spearman coefficient analysis was used to appraise the correlation between sinus proximity and each of the other measured variables. The level of significance was set at p≤ 0.05. The reproducibility of measurements was assessed by the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Results: Spearman coefficient revealed a significant positive correlation between maxillary sinus proximity to root apices and molar inclination (buccal crown torque) (p=0.044). Palatal root proximity to the sinus was the only individual root eliciting a positive correlation with molar inclination (p=0.022).
