Subjects and methods: The current randomized controlled clinical trials were conducted on a total sample of 10 orthodontic patients (3 males and 7 females), a split-mouth design was performed. Two main groups, which group I included a procedure of canine retraction by using sectional arch in the conventional level of the brackets and tubes, while group II included a procedure of canine retraction through sectional arch in high position utilizing power arms attached to canine and molar tubes. A cone beam computed tomography had been used as observational method. Results: The results showed a significant increase in the anchorage loss in both of the groups, however no significant statistical difference between the two groups. Conclusion: It concluded that both techniques seem to have loss in the anchorage, however comparing both groups with each other’s seems to show no significant differences.","PeriodicalId":483969,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Orthodontic Journal","volume":"31 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141277792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: eighteen patients with maxillary skeletal crossbites, aged between 18 and 21 were selected, divided randomly into a group treated with a conventional Hyrax, and a group with Hybrid appliance using palatal miniscrews with monocortical engagement. The Hybrid appliance was fabricated using a digital workflow; CBCT scans merged with intraoral digital scans, used to virtually position miniscews and fabricating a surgical guide through 3D printing. Both groups followed the same activation protocols. CBCT scans were taken for all patients before and after treatment. These were used for comparing dental, alveolar and skeletal treatment results. The resulting data were statistically analyzed using Shapiro Wilk Normality test and Kolmogorov test, and Paired t test between the pre and post treatment results. Results: Transverse linear and angular measurements were higher in the Hyrax group due to increased buccal tipping, the dentoalveolar linear measurements showed buccal alveolar bone thinning in the Hyrax group, there was statistically significant increase in the right first premolar alveolar inclination in the Hyrax group showing more alveolar bone bending, and the skeletal linear measurements showed more parallel sutural opening with the Hybrid group .In both groups, opening happened more on the right side. Conclusions: Sutural separation was possible with both appliances at the late-adolescent stage with comparable results. However, the Hybrid appliance exhibited less side effects, giving a qualitatively better expansion pattern.","PeriodicalId":483969,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Orthodontic Journal","volume":"28 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141276220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The intrusion of lower incisors is found to be particularly practical in patients with adequate upper incisor display. Aim of the study: The purpose of this study is to compare deep overbite correction using auxiliary cantilever springs to relative intrusion during initial stages of orthodontic treatment. Materials and methods: Thirty patients exhibiting deep overbite malocclusion were divided into test and control groups. Test group received auxiliary cantilever springs on top of leveling arches to intrude lower incisors. Control group received sequential leveling arch wires. Treatment effect was evaluated after six months by using lateral cephalometric radiographs to assess incisors, molars and premolars changes. Comparison between T0 (preoperative) and T1 (6 months postoperative) within each group was done using paired samples T-test, while comparison of mean difference of different parameters between both groups was done using Mann-Whitney U test. Results: A mean overbite reduction of 3.2 mm was found in the experimental group. Incisor intrusion was found to be significant in the test group with a mean of -1.33 and -1.31 when measured from center of resistance and apex. Distal tipping of lower 1 st molars was significant in the experimental group (P<0.001) while premolar extrusion was more significant in the control one. Conclusion: Deep bite correction can be achieved during the leveling and alignment phase using cantilever springs with lower incisors intrusion without significant difference in labial tipping other than that created by relative intrusion with continuous sequential archwires.","PeriodicalId":483969,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Orthodontic Journal","volume":"73 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141278492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
