By universally increasing this age, this pension indexation policy might amplify known inequalities in mortality, such as those between people in different living arrangements. OBJECTIVE We aim to quantify inequalities in mortality before retirement age by living arrangement over time and to estimate whether an increase in the retirement age could disproportionately affect disadvantaged groups.","PeriodicalId":48242,"journal":{"name":"Demographic Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2024-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140378477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These immigrants arrived from low-fertility contexts to a higher-fertility society. OBJECTIVE We consider how the fertility of cohorts of diverse immigrant women from a low fertility context shifts in the context of high fertility. METHODS We examine completed fertility, parity distributions, and age at first birth of immigrant women compared to native-born Jewish women. Data taken from the Israel Population Register and from Israel Social Surveys are examined by birth cohort, religion, and religiosity.","PeriodicalId":48242,"journal":{"name":"Demographic Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2024-02-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140415407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OBJECTIVE We assessed whether the fulfillment of contraceptive preferences affected women’s decisions to continue, switch, or stop using contraception. METHODS Data came from a panel of urban Kenyan, Nigerian, and Senegalese women collected between 2010–2015. Women who were not using contraception at baseline and intended to use reported their preferred contraceptive method, and then at the second round reported their contraceptive use, which permits us to measure whether they fulfilled their baseline preference. We then examined whether fulfilling their contraceptive preference was associated with the decision to continue, switch, or stop using contraception by the third round by estimating a set of probit and bivariate probit models.","PeriodicalId":48242,"journal":{"name":"Demographic Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2024-01-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139615431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OBJECTIVE The present study contributes to this body of knowledge by examining plans and behaviours associated with leaving the parental home among young individuals (aged 18 to 34) in five European countries, more than one year after the onset of the epidemic at the beginning of 2020. METHOD Drawing on data from two waves of a cross-sectional survey conducted in May and November 2021 as part of the Youth Project, we investigate the various ways in which the living arrangements of young individuals, such as exiting or returning to the parental home, have evolved in response to the pandemic, in alignment with or in contrast to their pre-pandemic intentions. To achieve this, we employ both multinomial and logit models.","PeriodicalId":48242,"journal":{"name":"Demographic Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2024-01-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139618803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
