The food industry generates an enormous amount of waste which is used as animal feed or undergoes composting or just go as landfills. Some of these organic wastes contains colouring pigments which can be effectively used to colour textiles. Hence there is a possibility to bridge the gap utilizing the waste from food industry to colour textile materials. Chemical dyes are easier to use and produce bright shades but on the other hand it causes pollution to the environment. Natural dyes from plant sources are required in large amounts which may cause depletion of natural resources. Considering these factors, the waste material from food industry, which is available at little, or no cost can be effectively used to colour textiles, this would make natural dyeing affordable and bring about sustainability in textile dyeing process. This kind of sustainable approach protects the environment by utilizing the waste produced by one industry and creating a value-added item for another industry. This study was carried out considering the sustainability aspect which is mutually beneficial to food and textile industries.Natural dyes can be found in the kitchen or in one’s garden can produce beautiful hues. A simple dyeing process can be used to colour the fabric at home utilising available resources in the home kitchen. Decoction waste after extracting two widely used beverages - tea dust and filter coffee dust which are part of everyday kitchen waste were used for the study. Instead of these wastes going directly as landfills, dye was extracted prior to its disposal. Cotton fabric, mordanted with Alum, was dyed with the extracted dye. These dyed fabrics showed good to excellent colour fastness to perspiration, rubbing, washing, and pressing. Since these dyes are natural in origin, they are safe and eco-friendly. This study proves that throw-away kitchen waste can be utilized to extract dyes that can be used to create value-added products.","PeriodicalId":478592,"journal":{"name":"ShodhKosh Journal of Visual and Performing Arts","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136210155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Disability activists have long challenged these ableist norms and called for greater recognition of the diversity of human experience. The representation of characters like Matt Murdock and Charles Xavier from the American superhero films Daredevil (2003) directed by Mark Steven Johnson and X-Men (2000) by Bryan Singer has evolved to offer audiences more thought-provoking narratives that transcend simplistic notions of good versus evil. By portraying Matt and Charles Xavier as disabled superheroes, these stories challenge traditional conventions of heroism. This study analyzes how Matt and Charles Xavier disrupt the perception of heroism, particularly in the science fiction genre, thereby examining how their representation emphasises that disability does not hinder heroism or the ability to make a difference. This study combines the fields of disability studies and science fiction to challenge and showcase how the science fiction world is an inviting home for disabled characters and fans. This paper highlights how these characters, despite their physical disabilities, are depicted as powerful, determined, and capable of performing incredible feats and challenge conventional ideas about non-normative bodies in the science fiction genre. This paper concludes that such portrayals can provide disabled audiences with a sense of connection and validation through characters who share similar experiences. Seeing themselves positively reflected in fictional narratives can contribute to a stronger and more positive self-identity. Such characteristics can be included in the world of literature and movies as protagonists with persistence and resilience.","PeriodicalId":478592,"journal":{"name":"ShodhKosh Journal of Visual and Performing Arts","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135696664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All the prominent media use this as a source of income, and all the advertisers use this to promote their products among users. Today, it is not possible for us to determine a product purchase if we don’t see it on any media in advertising. Several government organizations use advertising tools to reach out to their target customers. Even museums nowadays harness the myriad benefits of advertising tools to promote themselves. In this study, the researcher selected four leading museums in India and studied the perception of the effectiveness of advertising tools among visitors. The museums noticed that advertising tools were very effective in promoting themselves. The perception of visitors was found to be at a ‘very effective’ level of effectiveness. The correlation between perception and effectiveness of advertising was found to be a positive relation. The researcher proved that attention, interest, desire, and action (AIDA) were the effects produced by the advertising used by the selected museums to promote themselves. The number of respondents who had stated a ‘very effective’ level of effectiveness was 273 out of a total of 423 respondents, meaning 64.39% of all. No significant difference was found in different independent variables such as age, educational qualification, and perception of the effectiveness of the advertising.","PeriodicalId":478592,"journal":{"name":"ShodhKosh Journal of Visual and Performing Arts","volume":"143 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135834661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Religious ceremonies are usually followed as prescribed in religious scriptures as a long-standing practice. Music and dance have always had their place among humans that can be traced back to as early as the ancient civilisations of the world. Even to date, some of the most common factors that can be seen as a part of rituals, irrespective of cultural differences, might be music, dance, and food. Rhythm is ever prevailing in all nature and even in manmade things. The music and dance are mere extensions of the rhythm of an individual or a community that is expressed outward. Hence, they are inevitable in the rituals too. India, with a rich tradition of religion and arts, influences the community to a greater extent.This study uses a descriptive research methodology to analyse the Rituals of Tamil Nādu involving music and dance. The mythological background of rituals and music, rituals regarding the temple, kingdom, folk rituals, and commoners involving music or dance have been discussed. These rituals are slowly fading with the increase in the modernisation of the world. With technologies replacing several artists, it can also be considered the last resort to record and archive arts and rituals on the verge of extinction. Some ritualistic arts might not be saved even with help as they follow a rigorous customary tradition that can only be carried on by the family line. Rituals involving superficial beliefs that affect or hurt the physical aspects of humans or animals might be avoided. However, the arts related to it must be encouraged to document to be passed on to the future generation.","PeriodicalId":478592,"journal":{"name":"ShodhKosh Journal of Visual and Performing Arts","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135833546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
