This systematic review aims to analyse the findings of studies that have applied virtual reality to social work training through thematic and content analyses. Our results show that the main advantages of virtual reality for social work training cited in the literature include improvements in motivation, and the acquisition of competencies and skills specific to the discipline of social work (assessment, diagnosis and intervention), among others. The main limitations include temporal constraints in the application of virtual reality, as well as perceived dehumanisation.","PeriodicalId":47606,"journal":{"name":"International Social Work","volume":"5 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2023-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139268112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To study the details, this article aims to explore the roles of social workers during the pandemic in China’s mainland and how social workers fulfilled their roles. The study used a cross-sectional design with a convergent parallel-mixed methodology. Its findings provide another piece of evidence demonstrating the functions of social work practitioners during a health crisis worldwide. However, the ambiguities of the social work profession in addressing public health emergencies were also unveiled in the case of China.","PeriodicalId":47606,"journal":{"name":"International Social Work","volume":"302 12","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135475318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Non-intersectional policies go against the work ethos of social workers. At the same time, without any federal support for asylum seekers and disparate state and city services, asylum seekers are denied fundamental human rights. Social workers are now pushed to work more closely with asylum seekers. They should thoroughly understand the structural issues around asylum policies and engage in policy advocacy to change outdated and unidimensional laws.","PeriodicalId":47606,"journal":{"name":"International Social Work","volume":"44 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135681655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to increase the involvement of minority social workers in policy arenas in multicultural societies, professional bodies and social work training frameworks should provide social workers with knowledge resources and professional skills, including tailored organizational support.","PeriodicalId":47606,"journal":{"name":"International Social Work","volume":"2010 27","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135813197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Content analysis techniques were used to analyze the experiences of hospital social workers (n = 40). The nominal group technique was used to design and compile the process (n = 10). Focus group discussion and the AGREE guidance critique technique were conducted in the presence of experts. In this study, the process of providing specialized interventions of hospital social workers in crisis situations, the challenges, and professional roles were identified. The principles and basis of work in crisis situations are similar, but at the same time, each one needs special consideration.","PeriodicalId":47606,"journal":{"name":"International Social Work","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135803528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research design is based on a phenomenological approach with a qualitative research pattern; thus, the participants, comprising 18 fathers of children with ASD, were reached through the purposive sampling method. Analysis results pointed to the following themes: ‘Fathers’ feelings on the basis of masculinity’, ‘Imagined–actual fatherhood’, and ‘Work–family–life balance’. The findings indicated that fathers of children with ASD had their fatherhood patterns changed toward nurturant fatherhood. Being an educated and professional member of the middle class, being dual-earner parents, and having a child with autism are effective in this transformation. Suggestions are made as to social policy and feminist social work practices for the development of nurturant fatherhood and egalitarian gender relations.","PeriodicalId":47606,"journal":{"name":"International Social Work","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135350873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
