This study aimed to assess the perceptions of first-year medical students in Bangladesh regarding traditional cadaveric and modern virtual methods in anatomy education. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive and analytical study was conducted among 110 first-year medical students from two medical colleges in Dhaka, Bangladesh. A pre-tested, open-ended questionnaire was administered to collect data on demographic characteristics, student preferences in anatomy learning, and their level of agreement on the use of traditional and virtual methods. Non-parametric statistical tests were performed to evaluate score differences between teaching methods. Result: The study revealed a strong preference for a blended approach, integrating both cadaveric and virtual methods. Cadaveric methods were predominantly favored for tasks requiring a deep understanding of anatomical structures (76.36%), while virtual methods were preferred for understanding the anatomical basis of functional consequences (60.91%). A significant number of students strongly agreed that cadaveric dissection is vital in anatomy learning (29.09%). Conclusion: The study suggests that both traditional cadaveric and modern virtual methods have unique strengths and weaknesses in anatomy education. A blended approach, integrating both methods, could offer the most comprehensive learning experience for students. The findings have implications for curriculum designers, educators, and policymakers in medical education.","PeriodicalId":471520,"journal":{"name":"Scholars journal of applied medical sciences","volume":"66 S5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135545797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Her active chronic carriage may be the cause of cirrhosis. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of HCV in blood donations collected at the Moulay Ismail military hospital in Meknes in order to protect the recipients. Material and Methods: This is a retrospective study of 8639 military blood donors. All donors have gone through a pre-screening stage involving an anamnesis and pre-donation clinical examination associated with a biological screening performed by the 4th generation recombinant ELISA and confirmed on the Abott Architect system. Result: The study is focused on 8639 blood donors, mostly male, with extreme ages of 18 to 56 years. We found an HCV seroprevalence of 0.17%. No case of co-infection has been recorded. Discussion and conclusion: The HCV seroprevalence rate in our series remains relatively low in comparison with the data of the literature, this could be related to the campaigns of sensitization, to the exposure of the preventive measures for the military population as well as to the success of the pre-selection stage at Moulay Ismail hospital in Meknes.","PeriodicalId":471520,"journal":{"name":"Scholars journal of applied medical sciences","volume":"31 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135725747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It usually occurs in middle-aged women with few or no cardiovascular risk factors. Coronary angiography can make the diagnosis in most cases, and endocoronary imaging is reserved for ambiguous cases. There is currently no randomized controlled trial comparing the different management strategies for spontaneous coronary dissections (conservative approach, coronary revascularization strategies including percutaneous coronary intervention and coronary artery bypass grafting). Current practice is therefore based on case observations and registries on clinical experience and on extrapolation (when applicable) of guidelines for the treatment of acute coronary syndrome.","PeriodicalId":471520,"journal":{"name":"Scholars journal of applied medical sciences","volume":"140 11","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136157276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It commonly spreads by direct extension or lymphatic dissemination within the pelvis into the regional lymph nodes. Distant lymph node metastasis remains exeptionnal. To our knowledge, synchronous cervical and axillary lymph node metastasis from cervix cancer have never been reported. Here we report a case of cervical and axillary lymph node metastasis from cervix uterii cancer. Case presentation: A 51-year-old woman diagnosed with cervix uterii cancer and treated with cocomitant chemoradiotherapy, presented 8 months after the initial diagnosis multiple round masses located at the left side of her neck. F-18 FDG PET/CT revealed pathological axillary and neck lymph nodes. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry confirmed the metastatic nature of the lymph nodes. the patient underwent lymph node dissection before undergoing chemotherapy, followed by radiotherapy to the affected cervical and axillary lymph nodes. Conclusions: Metastases from the uterine cervix to the neck lymph nodes are extremely uncommon. Lymphatic drainage and the lymph node jump phenomenon can explain the possible mode of cervical cancer tumor cell spread to the neck area. The mechanism of axillary lymph node metastasis from cervix uterii cancer can be explained by the communication between neck lymph nodes and axillary lymph nodes due to the alteration of the centripetal flow causing a retrograd spread. Distant lymph node metastasis in cervix uterii cancer are associated with a poor prognosis.","PeriodicalId":471520,"journal":{"name":"Scholars journal of applied medical sciences","volume":"66 11","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136317868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of the calcium channel blocker Nifedipine compared to the β2 agonist Levosalbutamol for inhibiting uterine contractions in early preterm labor, with a focus on maternal side effects and perinatal outcomes. Methods: A randomized clinical trial was conducted at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital over one year, involving pregnant women experiencing early preterm labor (24-36 weeks gestation, regular uterine contractions, cervical dilation 1-3 cm). a total N=66 patients were randomly assigned to receive either Nifedipine (Experimental group) or Levosalbutamol (Control group). Primary maternal outcomes included tocolysis, time to tocolysis, prolongation of pregnancy by ≥2 days, and delivery at term. Secondary perinatal outcomes included birth asphyxia, perinatal mortality, and the need for emergency NICU admission. Secondary maternal outcomes included side effects such as headache, hypotension, nausea/vomiting, and tachycardia. Results: Over 90% of patients in the Nifedipine group achieved tocolysis compared to 72.7% in the Levosalbutamol group (p = 0.054). Nifedipine achieved significantly faster tocolysis (8.7 hours vs. 29.3 hours, p < 0.001). The Experimental group showed higher rates of arresting preterm labor for ≥2 days and lower rates of preterm delivery. Maternal side effects were lower for headache but higher for hypotension and nausea/vomiting in the Nifedipine group. Tachycardia occurred in the Control group but not the Experimental group. Both groups had low rates of birth asphyxia. Perinatal mortality was lower in the Experimental group, and NICU admission was less frequent.
