Fatigue is widely regarded as a cardinal manifestation of Axial SpA and is one of the three most frequently reported symptoms alongside pain and stiffness. This study sought to assess the association between fatigue and disease activity in axial spondyloarthritis. Aim of the study: The aim of this study is to assess the association between fatigue and disease activity in axial spondyloarthritis. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, BSMMU, from October 2021 to September 2022. A total of 48 patients fulfilling the ASAS criteria for Axial SpA were included. Data were collected through structured interviews, assessing socio-demographic parameters and disease history. Fatigue severity was measured using the FSS, and disease activity was evaluated with the ASDAS-CRP. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 24. Result: The majority of the studied patients (70.8%) had a normal BMI. The mean FSS score was significantly higher for patients with high and very high disease activity compared to those with inactive and low disease activity (p < 0.05). A significant association was found between disease activity and fatigue severity (p < 0.05). There is a statistically significant positive correlation between disease activity and fatigue severity (p < 0.05). A significant positive correlation was observed between the ASDAS-CRP score and the FSS score (r = +0.479, p = 0.001). Conclusion: Study results found that fatigue severity and disease activity score had significant positive linear association. Hence, it can be concluded that fatigue and disease activity have significant relationship in axial spondyloarthritis. Further large-scale multicenter research is warranted.","PeriodicalId":471520,"journal":{"name":"Scholars journal of applied medical sciences","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140739717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Method: Based on the fact that BOO can be diagnosed when the maximum flow rate (Qmax) is < 12ml/s and the detrusor pressure at maximum flow rate (Pdet.Qmax) is > 20cmH2O. The differences in the incidence of LUTS between female patients with BOO and the control group (female patients without BOO) and the characteristics of LUTS in female patients with BOO of two different groups (one is < 50 years old while the other is ≥ 50 years old) was compared. Results: The main symptoms of LUTS were urine storage period (72.1%), and the urination frequency was the most common. The incidence of urinary retention in women over 50 years of age had increased (P<0.05), as well as urinary incontinence (P=0.087) and nocturia (P=0.091). The incidence of frequent urination, urgent urination, increased nocturia, insufficient urination and dysuria in female patients with BOO was higher than those female patients without BOO (P<0.05). The incidence of symptoms in the urine storage phase in BOO female patients were higher than that in urination phase (P<0.05), The second age group (patients ≥ 50 years of age) tends to have similar manifestation (P<0.05), but different in the first age group (patients < 50 years of age) (P>0.05). Conclusions: LUTS of female patients with BOO were mainly characterized by symptoms in the urine storage phase. Compared with female patients with LUTS without BOO, the incidence of frequent urination, urgent urination, nocturia, insufficient urination, and dysuria were higher.","PeriodicalId":471520,"journal":{"name":"Scholars journal of applied medical sciences","volume":"30 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140745258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It affects infancy and adulthood for the individual and society as a whole. Amblyopia affects academic success, career choice, visuomotor skills, social interaction, psychological development, and economic participation. Unilateral amblyopia increases the likelihood of bilateral vision loss. Ocular media opacity, strabismus, anisometropia, hypermetropia, astigmatism, myopia, and blepharoptosis are risk factors for amblyopia. Ocular screening programs in young children, primarily preschoolers, may detect amblyopia and amblyogenic risk factors like as strabismus, refractive errors, and media opacities early. It prevents and treats amblyopia. It helps children's emotional growth. Diagnosis and treatment of amblyopia at a younger age may result in a better and more stable final VA because to shorter treatment durations, faster VA improvement, and greater treatment adherence. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine Preschool vision screening, prevalence and associated factors of amblyopia among school going children in Dhaka city. Methods and Material: Between January 1 and June 30, 2022, a cross-sectional survey of a community of Dhaka city residents in the school age range was carried out. Naturally, the mass of the spring will determine how much it stretches or elongates; different weight masses will stretch the spring in different ways. The spring itself exerts a restoring force F that is proportional to the amount of elongation s and opposed to the direction of elongation, according to Hooke's law. Put simply. When a mass m is connected to a spring, the mass extends the spring by a certain amount, reaching an equilibrium where the restoring force ks balances the mass W. Remember that [6] defines weight. w = mg (0.3.1) the condition of equilibrium is mg = −ks (0.3.2) or mg − ks = 0 (0.3.3) In the event that the mass deviates from its equilibrium position by an amount x, the spring's restoring force is equal to k(x + s). We can associate Newton's second rule with the net, or resultant, force of the restoring force and the weight W is balanced by the restoring force ks, provided that there are no retarding forces operating on the system and that[6] the mass vibrates free of other external forces—free motion. Remember that [6] defines weight. (ⅆ^2 x)/(ⅆt^2 )= -k(s + x) + mg (0.3.5) = −kx + mg − ks = −kx (0.3.5) The spring's restoring force works in the opposite direction of motion, as shown by the negative sign. Additionally, we follow the tradition that displacements recorded in positive values below the equilibrium position [6].","PeriodicalId":471520,"journal":{"name":"Scholars journal of applied medical sciences","volume":"178 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140750829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, the present study comparatively assessed the alterations of basic cardiac functions that may be associated with the operation of artisanal refineries (OAR) in Rivers State of Nigeria. This cross-sectional survey used a multi-stage sampling technique (including purposive and snowball tools) to recruit 203 (including 120 OAR-exposed and 83 non-OAR exposed) consenting and apparently healthy adult male and female subjects. With the use of the electrocardiographic (ECG) machine, the basic ECG indices were recorded from the study subjects. Quantitative data obtained from the subjects were subjected to statistical analyses using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21.0. The result indicated significantly (P<0.0) elevated heart rates in the OAR-exposed subjects when compared to their non-OAR-exposed counterparts. Amongst the various ECG features, the exposed subjects predominantly presented with left atrial enlargement (LAE) (male exposed=57% and female exposed =46.3%) as against none in the unexposed group. And there was no significant association of the incidences of Abnormal/clinical ECG Features between the actively exposed (OAR operators) and passively exposed (residents in same city who are non-OAR operators) subjects. In conclusion, the operation of artisanal refineries in our locale may potentially predispose its operators to significant elevation of heart rate and incidences of abnormal ECG features.","PeriodicalId":471520,"journal":{"name":"Scholars journal of applied medical sciences","volume":"157 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140751839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to explore the prevalence and patterns of anxiety among secondary school-going students by examining the interplay of various psychosocial, familial, and health-related factors. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 600 secondary school students using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) scale. The study assessed the prevalence of anxiety and its correlation with demographic factors (age, gender), living situation, academic performance, health and lifestyle factors (BMI, chronic health conditions, sleep patterns), and family dynamics. Results: The analysis revealed that 52.67% of participants exhibited none to minimal anxiety symptoms, while 36.33% experienced mild anxiety, 8.00% moderate anxiety, and 3.00% severe anxiety. Age and gender showed no significant correlation with overall anxiety levels. However, living situation, academic performance, and health factors like BMI and sleep patterns were significantly associated with anxiety levels. Family dynamics, including income level and parenting style, also showed a strong correlation with anxiety. Students with severe anxiety were more likely to have lower academic performance, experience psychosocial challenges, and come from less supportive family environments. Conclusion: The study highlights the multifaceted nature of anxiety disorders in adolescents, which is influenced by a complex interplay of individual, familial, and environmental factors. These findings underscore the need for holistic approaches in addressing adolescent anxiety, involving family-based interventions, academic support, and health promotion strategies. The study contributes valuable insights into adolescent mental health, emphasizing the importance of early identification and comprehensive management of anxiety disorders.","PeriodicalId":471520,"journal":{"name":"Scholars journal of applied medical sciences","volume":"20 27","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140240556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The germs most often involved are Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus. The diagnosis is made when edema appears in the internal angle of the eye, often in the context of common nasopharyngitis. The Chandler classification codes the involvement of the orbit which can jeopardize the visual prognosis at advanced stages. The CT scan of the face confirms the diagnosis and helps detect ocular and endocranial complications. Treatment is essentially medical based on a combination of antibiotics. Surgery consists of drainage of the orbital abscess by external, endoscopic or combined approach.","PeriodicalId":471520,"journal":{"name":"Scholars journal of applied medical sciences","volume":"86 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140241617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
