Knight","doi":"10.1080/02601370.2022.2160020","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1080/02601370.2022.2160020","url":null,"abstract":"ABSTRACT The editors approached the 40th anniversary of the International Journal of Lifelong Education as an opportunity to consider the field by exploring how a corpus of 1462 articles (the first 40 volumes of the journal) questioned and shaped the field. A subset of advisory board members and the editors gathered in 2021 in groups to analyse major topics. The records of the reading, analyses and discussions of these groups offer a unique snapshot of the field and the journal’s place in it. In this paper, the editors draw three topics from that work which delineate fundamental debates of lifelong education and reveal how the journal’s authors have contributed to them. The topics are: citizenship and its learning; learning in, through and for work; and widening participation and higher education. Comparing the works contributing to these topical areas indicates how the field is evolving. We analyse how the Journal engages with the issue of inequality. This is accomplished by systematically identifying relevant articles within the archives, and reviewing these whilst taking account of the societal, cultural and political or economic contexts in which they were written. Most articles identified for review focused on specific disadvantaged groups, discussing ways in which adult education might help, support and strengthen them. A minority took a more critical approach, assessing the drivers for inequality, or problematising the role of lifelong education as a catalyst for addressing inequality or social injustice. In our analysis, we distinguish between inequalities related to class, gender and migration/ethnicity as themes emerging from our initial sweep of the archives, however these themes are represented unequally both in terms of number and attention given across the decades. Perhaps surprisingly, given the different forms of inequality addressed in the Journal, it seems that only very few of these papers can be directly associated with historical events and contexts relevant to the times in which they were written. Webb","doi":"10.1080/02601370.2022.2167445","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1080/02601370.2022.2167445","url":null,"abstract":"With this special issue of the International Journal of Lifelong Education, we complete a two-year celebration and critical examination of the field of adult lifelong education, prompted by the journal’s fortieth anniversary. In this editorial we provide a brief account of this celebration and its rationale, but also devote attention to the origins and early years of the journal itself. This involves reporting some recollections of two of the three men who edited the journal over its first sixteen years. It also involves reflecting on some notable developments, ‘turns’ and events in the academic field of adult education during that period, and the journal’s relationship to them. We then introduce the contents of the special issue itself: five articles and two review essays that draw on and analyse aspects of the work published in the journal over four decades. Finally, we reflect briefly on the journal’s aims, and the challenges of keeping them alive. We have set out much of the background and rationale to our fortieth anniversary ‘project’ in two previous editorials (Holford et al., 2021, 2022); some of the results have been presented in our earlier special issue, Forty Years of the International Journal of Lifelong Education: Reflections on a Changing Field (Volume 41, No. 1). As we explained, the special issues emerged from discussions among the editors and editorial advisory board. These raised various issues. Some concerned readership and audience, the framing of outputs from the research, and when, amongst whom, and into what context these might ‘land’. How has ‘the field’ changed? How far is the journal Anglocentric or ‘international’? What would be the critical issues of the time when we came to publish? In what ways might adult lifelong education – and research into it over the past forty years – contribute to solutions to the human race’s systemic problems? A second area of discussion concerned how and what should be covered: there was, for example, a long discussion as to how the period since 1981 was best divided up temporally: in the end we considered it as four decades, partly faute de mieux, but also because such a division, albeit arbitrary, might draw attention to ‘absences’ as well as ‘presences’, and require us to notice things that – with today’s concerns – we might otherwise overlook. As we proceeded, we did indeed spot geographical, racial, social, absences, as well as the varying presence or absence of various ‘voices’. At the same time, we have recognised trends or ‘long lines’, extending over several decades. Further concerns included revisiting ‘past futures’: reflecting on what we (or our predecessors) had imagined, or hoped, or feared, the future might be like. What did they see, ignore or overlook? In what ways did they prove correct or mistaken, and what might we learn from this? At the same time, we wanted to recognise the (external) events and forces that had shaped the journal and the field. Penyuluhan sangat penting dilakukan untuk merubah sikap, pengetahuan, dan keterampilan petani. Upaya pemberdayaan yang dilakukan adalah melalui penyuluhan pertanian.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pemberdayaan kelompok tani padi melalui penyuluhan pertanian. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan mengumpulkan data dilakukan menggunakan teknik wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan reduksi data, display data, dan conclusion drawing. Hasil penelitian menunjukan tahap – tahap pemberdayaan kelompok tani dilakukan dengan, Pertama tahap mengembangkan kesadaran awal yakni (a) pembentukan kelompok tani (b) kepemimpinan bergilir (c) study banding. Kedua tahap transformasi kemampuan yakni (a) membuat rencana penyuluhan (b) penyuluhan dan pelatihan (c) kemampuan adopsi inovasi (d) pertemuan rutin. Ketiga tahap percaya diri berkembang yakni (a) kemandirian (b) pendampingan (c) perubahan pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan sikap . Keempat tahap peningkatan kesejahteraan yakni (a) peningkatan produksi (b) pendapatan petani meningkat. Pendekatan penelitian ini menggunakan studi kasus kualitatif. Penelitian dilakukan di Desa Jungjang, Kecamatan Arjawinangun, Kabupaten Cirebon. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 7 orang, terdiri 2 pelaksana BUMDes dan 5 pemuda. Terdapat 2 informan penelitian, Kepala Dusun V dan Sekretaris Desa. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan simpulan. Keabsahan data diuji menggunakan triangulasi sumber dan triangulasi teknik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui bagaimana proses model magang pendidikan informal pada pengrajin kayu di industri kerajinan kayu di Kelurahan Sukahurip, Kecamatan Tamansari, Kota Tasikmalaya. Penelitian ini dilakukan karena ditemukan adanya salah satu home industry kerajinan kayu yang menerapkan model magang pendidikan informal pada pengrajin kayu tanpa ada campur tangan dan dukungan dari pemerintah setempat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan tiga metode, yaitu observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menujukkan bahwa Model Magang Pendidikan Informal yang berdasarkan analisis penelitian di lapangan dilakukan oleh pemilik industri kerajinan kepada pengrajin atau pemagang yang mencakup pada 10 patokan DIKMAS. Pelaksanaan magang di laksanakan oleh pemilik yang di awali dengan perekrutan warga belajar yang berasal dari lingkungan sekitar dan dari luar. Proses pelatihan dalam pembelajaran di lakukan dalam beberapa tahapan yaitu tahap pembuatan pola, pemotongan kayu, bubut kayu, mengamplas kayu dan pemanggangan kayu. Setelah proses pembelajaran warga belajar memiliki pengetahuan, keterampilan dan kemampuan dalam pembuatan kerajinan bahkan ada yang perpindahan profesi menjadi pemagang mandiri. Upaya yang perlu dilakukan adalah dengan dapat mengkolaborasikan situasi dan kondisi di tengah revolusi 4.0. Seperti di Desa Sumberpasir, Kecamatan Pakis, Kabupaten Malang yang memiliki Teras Baca sebagai sarana tambahan untuk anak-anak Desa Sumberpasir. Di teras baca Sumberpasir, memiliki program bimbingan belajar dengan peserta didik usia sekolah dasar berjumlah 30 peserta didik. Permasalahan utama ialah minat literasi pada anak-anak dirasa masih kurang cukup sehingga menjadi penghambat dalam kemampuan menghafal mereka. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif melalui pendekatan studi kasus. Terkait permasalahan di atas, solusi yang ditawarkan oleh penulis adalah video pembelajaran berbasis animasi yang dapat membantu upaya pengembangan minat literasi dan kemampuan menghafal anak-anak bimbingan belajar di teras baca sumberpasir. Hasil yang diperoleh yaitu (1) implikasi pemanfaatan media video animasi  sebagai strategi pengembangan minat literasi dan kemampuan menghafal pada anak; (2) peran animasi dalam pembelajaran; dan (3) tingkat  efektifitas pemanfaatan video animasi untuk mengembangkan minat literasi dan kemampuan menghafal pada anak desa sumberpasir. Permasalahan pertanian di Kabupaten Ciamis khususnya Desa Lumbung seperti masih rendahnya hasil panen dan kurangnya partisipasi masyarakat harus ditangani oleh berbagai pihak khususnya Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) sebagai salah satu pelaksana pertanian dalam mengelola lahan pertanian. Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) harus berdaya guna, memiliki kemampuan, dan mandiri guna meningkatkan ekonomi masyarakat dan keluarga.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh keberdayaan masyarakat dalam pemanfataan potensi lokal terhadap peningkatan kesejahteraan anggota Kelompok Wanita Tani. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah  metode kuantitatif korelasional dengan tehnik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, angket, dan dokumentasi. Adapun tehnik analisis yang digunakan yaitu uji asumsi klasik dan uji regresi linier sederhana menggunkan SPSS. Populasi yang digunakan yaitu seluruh anggota Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) sebanyak 60 orang. Pengambilan sampelnya menggunkan rumus slovin dan tehnik yang digunakannya yaitu tehnik Cluster Random Sampling yang menghasilkan sampel sebanyak 37 anggota Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT). Hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan melalui uji hipotesis bahwa terdapat pengaruh keberdayaan masyarakat dalam pemanfaatan potensi lokal terhadap peningkatan kesejahteraan anggota Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) sebesar 12%.  Nilai korelasi berganda (R) sebesar 0,355 menunjukan hubungan yang lemah antara variabel keberdayaan masyarakat terhadap variabel kesejahteraan masyarakat. Jenis penelitian ini deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif, dan teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan metode wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Adapun subjek pada penelitian ini adalah ketua pengurus yayasan Tahfidz Al-Fikri, ustadz dan ustadzah, orang tua santri dan santri. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pembentukan kepribadian islami santri anak usia dini di Tahfidz Al-Fikri dilakukan dengan menanamkan Pendidikan Agama Islam yang baik kepada santri melalui beberapa cara yaitu dengan pemberian pendidikan nilai, latihan, metode pemberian contoh (teladan), dan metode pembiasaan.
