This unsettling phenomenon engenders not only physical harm and emotional distress but, alarmingly, fatalities as well. In response, the imperative to curtail this deleterious spread through preemptive measures has prompted institutions to engage in student surveys. This research endeavors to illuminate the panorama of bullying perceptions prevailing among students within selected Malaysian higher education institutions. Employing a comprehensive analytical framework encompassing descriptive statistics, crosstabulation, independent samples t-test, and one-way ANOVA, this study scrutinizes the multifaceted dynamics underpinning bullying trends. Employing a combination of convenience sampling and online survey techniques, a cohort of 561 participants was garnered from four distinct higher learning establishments: Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS), and University of Malaya (UM). The outcomes of this investigation delineate a landscape in which bullying remains a persistent concern within the selected higher education institutions. Of particular significance is the perceptual contrast exhibited by bullies as compared to their peers, with the former demonstrating higher levels of support for bullying behavior. Consequently, institutional administrations are impelled to undertake comprehensive initiatives to comprehensively catalog instances of bullying, spanning both psychological and physical manifestations. These findings underscore the gravity of the issue and underscore the urgency for institutions to adopt proactive strategies to mitigate bullying, thereby cultivating environments conducive to holistic student well-being and nurturing scholastic excellence.","PeriodicalId":46663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced and Applied Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78795718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Employing thin layer chromatography, we conducted an in-depth analysis to characterize the physico-chemical attributes of mango seed kernel extract. Additionally, we scrutinized the efficacy of various pretreatments aimed at mitigating discoloration. Through a meticulous examination of baked samples, we ascertained the optimal level of mango seed flour substitution by juxtaposing their quality against wheat-based counterparts. This investigation encompassed the creation and evaluation of three distinct recipes, with a focus on quality and acceptability metrics. Statistical analysis via Analysis of Variance was employed to rigorously scrutinize the samples, ultimately revealing that cupcakes exhibited the most promising potential for scaled-up production. Our findings illuminated the presence of triterpenes, fatty acids, anthraquinones, coumarins, tannins, and flavonoids within mango seed kernels, accompanied by substantial radical scavenging activity. Moreover, our study identified sodium metabisulfite as the most efficacious method for inactivating enzymes present in mango seed kernels. Based on our comprehensive investigation, we advocate for the incorporation of mango seed flour as a wheat flour substitute, ideally at a 10% substitution level, owing to its advantageous properties and widespread acceptability. This study thus paves the way for innovative applications of mango seed kernels in the realm of food science and production.","PeriodicalId":46663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced and Applied Sciences","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88534663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By employing quarterly data spanning from the first quarter of 1980 to the fourth quarter of 2020, this study employs the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) methodology to discern both immediate and enduring determinants of the real exchange rate. The findings distinctly reveal that variables such as money supply, trade openness, workers' remittances, and productivity collectively constitute the long-term determinants of the real exchange rate in the context of Pakistan. Specifically, an augmentation in money supply and an escalated level of economic openness manifestly contribute to the reduction of the real exchange rate, whereas an inflow of remittances and heightened productivity exhibit the propensity to elevate the real exchange rate over an extended duration. This exploration underscores the imperative for proactive engagement by the nation's monetary authorities within the foreign exchange market, with the overarching objective of preserving the currency's value at a state of equilibrium and, thereby, ensuring the holistic integrity of the economy.","PeriodicalId":46663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced and Applied Sciences","volume":"33 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85715238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The province of Nueva Ecija, situated in Central Luzon, has emerged as the primary producer of calamansi in the region. This study investigates the calamansi industry's dynamics in Nueva Ecija over a six-year period, encompassing 18 municipalities. A comprehensive analysis reveals that 756,136 calamansi trees are cultivated across 1,200 hectares of land, involving 1,481 farmers. Regrettably, both production and cultivation area have witnessed a declining trend during this period, with annual negative growth rates of -3.83% and -0.68%, respectively. Motivated by this concerning scenario, the researcher, a native of Nueva Ecija and a farmer, embarked on an agribusiness research endeavor. Employing a descriptive research approach and value chain analysis, this study scrutinizes the current state of the calamansi industry. Primary data were collected from 50 calamansi growers, while secondary sources included provincial, city, and municipal agriculturists from relevant local government units. The findings unveil key challenges faced by calamansi growers, including high input costs, price manipulation by intermediaries and traders, price fluctuations, and losses due to pest infestations and adverse weather conditions. To enhance competitiveness and ensure the industry's stability, collaborative efforts along the value chain are imperative. This study underscores the need for collective action to promote the sustainability of the calamansi industry in Nueva Ecija, highlighting opportunities for growth and development.","PeriodicalId":46663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced and Applied Sciences","volume":"55 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90814298","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Properties of Vietnamese water caltrop starch and formation of low glycemic index starch","authors":"K. Trinh, T. Nguyen, Thanh-Hoa Dang-Thi","doi":"10.21833/ijaas.2023.08.001","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.21833/ijaas.2023.08.001","url":null,"abstract":"This research investigates the properties and modification of water caltrop starch (WCS) with a particular focus on its potential for retrogradation and resistance to enzymatic hydrolysis. The study begins by obtaining WCS with a recovery efficiency of 4.5% (w/w in dry basis). The native WCS exhibits notable characteristics, including an apparent amylose content of 45.4%, a ratio of amorphous/α-helix regions at 1.341, a degree of relative crystallinity of 54.43%, an average molecular weight of 6.58×104 g/mole, and a degree of polymerization of 365.57. The high amylose content and degree of crystallinity in native WCS indicate its favorable retrogradation potential and resistance to enzymatic hydrolysis. Textural analysis of the WCS gel reveals high hardness and chewiness but low adhesiveness, which further supports its potential for retrogradation applications. To explore the effects of repeated retrogradation cycles, native WCS was subjected to 3, 6, and 9 cycles. The increase in retrogradation cycles led to a decrease in apparent amylose content from 31.79% to 29.34%. This reduction can be attributed to the formation of double helix associations and the emergence of new crystalline regions from amylose molecules. Furthermore, an increase in retrogradation cycles resulted in enhanced syneresis of starch. Interestingly, as the number of retrogradation cycles increased, the enzymatic hydrolysis rate of retrograded WCS gradually decreased. Correspondingly, the estimated glycemic index (GI) of the samples decreased, reaching a range of 50.05 to 38.46. Consequently, treatment with repeated retrogradation proves to be an effective strategy for producing modified WCS with a low glycemic index (<50%), thereby presenting promising opportunities for low glycemic index applications.","PeriodicalId":46663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced and Applied Sciences","volume":"86 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72387075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The selected regression algorithms were implemented within the Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis. The assessment of their performance was conducted through the analysis of correlation coefficients, providing insights into their predictive capabilities. Notably, the Random Forest algorithm demonstrated the highest predictive power with an impressive correlation coefficient (r=0.76), surpassing other models in the analysis. Following Random Forest, the k-nearest neighbor algorithm achieved a substantial correlation coefficient of (r=0.65), followed by the Decision Tree (r=0.53), Linear regression (r=0.51), and the Multi-layer perceptron (r=0.51). In contrast, the Support Vector Machine showed a notably lower correlation coefficient (r=0.51), indicating its comparatively weaker predictive performance. Furthermore, this study uncovered two variables, \"Easy to Wash\" and \"Water Resistance,\" which displayed significant correlations of (r=0.49) and (r=-0.35), respectively, in relation to the predictive performance of the regression model. However, no significant correlation was observed for other variables. In light of these findings, future research endeavors may explore alternative predictive models to further assess and compare their performance against the outcomes presented in this study, contributing to the ongoing enhancement of slipper quality prediction methodologies.","PeriodicalId":46663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced and Applied Sciences","volume":"24 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85292579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
