Within the banking sector, Islamic banks assume a significant role in advocating ethical and socially responsible conduct. This study delves into the impact of the board of directors' characteristics on corporate social responsibility disclosures (CSRD) within Jordanian Islamic banks. Data were meticulously gathered from three Jordanian Islamic banks, all of which are listed on the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE), over the span of the years 2010 to 2022. Our findings illuminate that Jordanian Islamic banks, on average, disclose 47 percent of their CSR endeavors, marking a commendable level of transparency, particularly when contrasted with less developed economies. Notably, independent directors comprise 42% of the board composition, with the average age of board members standing at 41 years. Moreover, 8.10% of board members hold degrees in finance and accounting, while 0.24% possess professional experience within the Big Four accounting firms. On average, Jordanian Islamic banks convene 10.27 board meetings annually, and 48% of directors maintain multiple directorships. Significantly, our analysis underscores that all examined characteristics of board members have a favorable influence on CSR disclosure within Jordanian Islamic banks. This paper constitutes a substantial contribution to the extant literature by providing empirical substantiation of the nexus between the board of directors' characteristics and CSRD in Jordanian Islamic banks, with a specific emphasis on the unique domain of Islamic banking, which has hitherto received limited scholarly attention. Further avenues of research are recommended to explore additional variables and delve deeper into the intricate interplay between board characteristics, external contextual factors, and the disclosure of CSR activities.","PeriodicalId":46663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced and Applied Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139300089","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research aims to examine the adoption of m-commerce transaction by SMEs in the service sector by extending the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). Additional variables of perceived compatibility and perceived credibility were added to the traditional UTAUT which originally consisted of performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, perceived compatibility and perceived credibility toward m-commerce adoption. This study implemented a quantitative approach and the data was collected from 245 SMEs who had previously used m-commerce. The result shows that performance expectancy, perceived compatibility, and perceived credibility have a significant influence on SMEs' mobile adoption, whereas effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions don't have a significant influence on SMEs' m-commerce adoption. In fact, SME owners believe that using electronic money in their business operations will improve their performance. IT professionals could intensify efforts to deploy m-commerce technology in the business organization to enhance productivity performance improvement of m-commerce transaction adoption. In fact, companies would benefit by making m-commerce transaction systems more helpful, secure, and compatible to use. By recognizing the factors that influence the adoption of m-commerce could help in addressing the challenges and barriers they present. Therefore, this research confirms the need to extend the traditional UTAUT in terms of m-commerce adoption.","PeriodicalId":46663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced and Applied Sciences","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139301374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These bank runs can have a cascading or contagion effect on other large banks, and U.S. banking crises can flare up again. We examine the effect of the First Republic bank run on top U.S. banks, U.S. stock indices, and global stock indices using standard event study methodology. We report abnormal returns and cumulative abnormal returns for the event day (t = May 01, 2023) and the 10-day event window (t-5 to t+5), respectively, using data from the 120-day estimation window. The results indicate that on the event day, only JP Morgan Bank's returns were negative, while other banks acted as safe havens for investors. No significant change in returns on the event day is observed for U.S. sector indices (except for the healthcare sector) and global stock exchanges, except for the European and Chinese markets. During the event window, the occurrence of the event significantly affects bank returns after the event date, but no significant effect is found before the event date. Similarly, the healthcare and transportation sectors are more affected than other sectors, while the U.S. and Canadian stock markets seem to be more susceptible to the bank run. Overall, the results suggest that the U.S. government should take decisive initiatives to stop the ripple effect and protect the entire financial system.","PeriodicalId":46663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced and Applied Sciences","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139293571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study centers on the application of a novel index known as the HY-Index, designed to evaluate the quality of articles from various sources, with the primary aim of addressing the limitations associated with established indices, notably the widely-used h-index. We deploy the HY-Index alongside the h-index to assess the performance of the top fifty researchers affiliated with Umm Al-Qura University, using data from the Google Scholar database. Comparative analyses are conducted, and rankings based on the HY-Index and h-index are scrutinized to determine which index offers a more suitable approach for quantifying researcher efficiency. Our findings reveal that the linear trend equation of the HY-Index rank closely aligns with the linear trend equation of the citation rank, surpassing the alignment observed with the h-index rank. Additionally, the linear trend equation of the HY-Index rank exhibits greater similarity to the linear trend equation of the publications rank compared to the h-index rank. Consequently, the HY-Index provides a more precise means of assessing author quality based on both citation and publication rankings, offering a fairer measurement of author quality compared to the h-index.","PeriodicalId":46663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced and Applied Sciences","volume":"58 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139295468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a unique technology for producing direct-current electricity without moving parts, it can be utilized within a high-temperature topping power cycle to be combined with a traditional bottoming power cycle, forming a combined-cycle MHD system. This study presents governing equations for the electric field and current density field within a moving plasma subject to an applied magnetic field. The modeling equations are described at four descending levels of complexity. Starting with the first level of modeling, which is the most general case, where no assumptions are made regarding the electric field, plasma velocity field, applied magnetic field, or electrode geometry. In the second level of modeling, the magnetic field is treated as one-dimensional. In the third level of modeling, a specific Faraday-type magnetohydrodynamics plasma generator channel is considered, having two continuous electrodes acting as parallel constant-voltage terminals. In the fourth (and simplest) level of modeling, an additional approximation is made by setting the Hall parameter to zero and replacing all vector fields with scalar quantities. For that simplest model, a representative set of operation conditions (electric conductivity 20 S/m, temperature 2800 K, supersonic plasma gas speed 2000 m/s with Mach 2.134, and magnetic flux density 5 T) shows that the optimum idealized electric power that can be extracted from a unit volume of plasma is estimated as 500 MW/m3. This is a much larger volumetric power density than typical values encountered in reciprocating piston-type engines (0.2 MW/m3) or rotary gas turbine engines (0.5 MW/m3). Such an extremely high power density enables very compact power generation units.","PeriodicalId":46663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced and Applied Sciences","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139301027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The focus of this study lies in the development and integration of a specialized switching inductor configuration, aiming to augment the converter's voltage gain while concurrently mitigating stress imposed on the converter switch. The converter's efficacy is of paramount importance, particularly during stepping-up operations where the duty cycle reduction, a consequence of the integrated switched inductor, contributes to reduced stress. The proposed converter architecture is characterized by its simplicity, necessitating only minimal components for implementation. These include a single capacitor, a pair of diodes, a duo of inductors, and a trifecta of switches. Operating nominally at 12 volts, the converter dynamically adjusts the voltage level in response to varying duty cycles: elevating it beyond the 35% threshold and inversely attenuating it below this parameter. A salient outcome of this endeavor is the curtailment of the dependency on an additional diode (D), resulting in streamlined circuitry. The conceptualized switching inductor model was rigorously assessed using the MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation environment, affording a comprehensive evaluation of its efficacy and robustness. This study thus underscores the viability and potential for significant enhancements in non-isolated buck-boost converter systems through inventive switching inductor integration.","PeriodicalId":46663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced and Applied Sciences","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139306258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
