Procedemos por uma comparação da edição francesa com dois de seus escritos, a Participação Geral do Rio Negro (1787) e as Observações Gerais e Particulares sobre a Classe dos Mamais (1790), evidenciando-se os usos e as apropriações textuais feitas pelo naturalista. Argumentamos que a compreensão dos povos indígenas das regiões que visitou se baseou na identificação de seu «modo de subsistência» e pela existência de um «caráter geral» ameríndio, concepções incorporadas a partir de sua leitura de Robertson.","PeriodicalId":45370,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA DE INDIAS","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2020-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46450612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Particular attention is paid to the relationships between these individuals and subordinate groups, notably slaves, in a vertical clientelist sense. Two methodological strategies were used in the research. The first was an exhaustive study of available parish records (births, baptisms and deaths), seeking to establish any possible connections and sociability networks among members of the elite and slaves. The other technique used to unveil these vertical relations was the recovery of more dispersed evidence from miscellaneous documents regarding the Minas Gerais captaincy in the Arquivo Historico Ultramarino.","PeriodicalId":45370,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA DE INDIAS","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2020-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45353128","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using quantitative and qualitative sources from public and private archives, the article analyses the nature of the health services provided by the institution, the management role of its leaders, as well as the make-up of its members and their health demands. The results lead us to reconsider the role of mutual organizations during the expansion of the public health system, as well as the role of ethnicity among the urban middle and working classes, long after the period of mass immigration.","PeriodicalId":45370,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA DE INDIAS","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2020-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43928427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A case in point is Juan de Ribamartin, a gentleman born in the Tobalina Valley (Burgos), who embarked on the voyage to New Spain to pursue a military career with a view to maintaining his family’s social rank and acquiring wealth commensurate with his social status. Despite his great endeavours in the Crown’s service for 35 years and travelling virtually all over the continent, putting both his person and his property at risk, Ribamartin was not rewarded as he deserved. He is an example of how, despite its awareness of the effort required to defend the new continent’s territories, the Spanish monarchy was unable to reciprocate in equal measure.","PeriodicalId":45370,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA DE INDIAS","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2020-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48477425","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To do so, it deals with the case of the Melinao tribe and the lands on which they settled in La Barrancosa (Bragado, Buenos Aires), the property they received as a donation in 1863. The analysis is based on the triangulation of a heterogeneous set of documentary sources about population, service of arms, kinship, lands, production and commerce.","PeriodicalId":45370,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA DE INDIAS","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2020-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45317153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article seeks to reveal some of the secrets hidden in their paintings and reflect on the meanings with which their owners may have endowed them. A set of screens have been chosen with themes that relate to the formation of a Creole identity in Mexico. The research aims to understand why Conquista screens went from being a popular theme in the late seventeenth century to disappearing altogether in the mid eighteenth century. In other words, why did certain topics continue and evolve, while others vanished.","PeriodicalId":45370,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA DE INDIAS","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2020-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47829309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Con tal fin, la sociología del imaginario nos aportará las bases metodológicas para analizar el discurso masónico y los preceptos que lo configuran, utilizando, como base documental, las fuentes producidas por las instancias masónicas, boletines y periódicos, así como la bibliografía especializada en esta temática.","PeriodicalId":45370,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA DE INDIAS","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2020-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48751874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, the case of historian Claudio Sanchez Albornoz was quite exceptional because of the complex strategy that led to his arrival in Argentina. He was supported by the Rockefeller Foundation (RF), whose role has barely been studied. Another key player was the Institucion Cultural Espanola de Buenos Aires (ICEBA). Thanks to the archives at Buenos Aires University and ICEBA (and correspondence with the RF), we can trace the network that made his arrival in Argentina possible, with the support of both institutions.","PeriodicalId":45370,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA DE INDIAS","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2020-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44010820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the Chilean case, we will study the fear aroused among local authorities by the temporary presence of these prisoners, especially as a possible source of social contagion. Regarding the few Tupamarista prisoners who survived shipwreck and disease before finally arriving in Spain, we will focus on their personal trajectories in Spanish jails in Africa.","PeriodicalId":45370,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA DE INDIAS","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2020-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49101142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
