Fungsi sinografi dalam sesebuah pementasan seperti reka bentuk set, pencahayaan dan kostum merupakan elemen penting dalam teater. Peranan sinografi dapat membantu pelakon menjiwai watak dengan penuh penghayatan. Reka bentuk sinografi yang diletakkan di atas pentas membantu para pelakon untuk mengenal pasti peranan dan tanggungjawab mereka tentang keperluan dalam beraksi di atas pentas serta dapat memvisualkannya untuk memberi kefahaman kepada penonton. Komunikasi visual dalam sesebuah pementasan terbahagi pada tiga set iaitu kostum, tatarias (makeup) dan pencahayaan. Elemen visual perlu bersatu, berkait dan lengkap untuk memberi keberkesanan dalam sesebuah pementasan. Kaedah yang digunakan dalam kajian ini ialah analisis ke atas Teater SARAH yang telah dipentaskan di Pusat Pengajian Seni, Universiti Sains Malaysia pada Oktober 2019. Penyelidikan dan penelitian secara terperinci telah dijalankan bagi menganalisis nilai-nilai artistik dalam rekaan sinografi melalui Teater SARAH. Fokus kajian berkaitan analisis fungsi sinografi dalam memainkan peranan untuk memberi interpretasi penonton bagi memahami simbolisme yang dipaparkan dalam setiap babak pementasan tersebut. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kualitatif iaitu dengan menganalisis peranan visual sinografi sebagai medium komunikasi terhadap pementasan teater tersebut. Dua kaedah yang telah digunakan untuk pengumpulan data iaitu temu bual secara separa berstruktur dan pemerhatian terhadap rakaman video pementasan yang diperoleh daripada pengarah teater. Penyelidik telah mengenal pasti bahawa nilai-nilai estetika yang disampaikan telah memberi kesan dramatik terhadap persembahan teater. Malahan, komunikasi visual dalam pementasan dapat memperlihatkan kepada penonton untuk mengenali maksud sosial dan budaya sesebuah karya dan memahami makna imej-imejnya yang tersendiri. Social media users use shortened words with full awareness of the meanings, and new non-standard words are constantly added to the repertoire of social media language. A pertinent question is whether social media users learn these non-standard words to use or whether they also contribute to the vocabulary used in social media communication. The study examined Malaysian millennials’ use of non-standard words in Twitter and their reasons for shortening words. For the non-standard words, data were collected from 200 active Twitter users whereas data on reasons for shortening words were collected from 30 users. The results showed that the Malaysian millennials frequently used non-standard spelling of words. The three top words were “ni” (this), “nak” (want), and X (negation). The main reasons for the Twitter users to shorten words were the 280-character limit per tweet, user convenience, and characteristics of words. The Twitter users felt free to create new spellings of standard words at times for fun, but most of the time, they use the common non-standard words. The Malaysian millennials reported that they were inclined to shorten long and complex words, and words with many vowels. The study suggests that Twitter users balance between speed in communication and preservation of meaning when using non-standard words. Keywords: Social media, Twitter, non-standard words, word formation processes, shortening of words.","PeriodicalId":45197,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Komunikasi-Malaysian Journal of Communication","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77519368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the parasocial relationships between social media health opinion leaders and their followers can influence the opinions, emotions, attitudes, and effective actions of the followers towards leading a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the strategies employed by social media health opinion leaders when using social media to communicate health issues. This study integrated the process model of health parasocial opinion leadership on social media by Saw et al. as the study guide. An in-depth interview was conducted with five (5) social media health opinion leaders on Twitter. The results of the study show that social media health opinion leaders use a variety of strategies depending on the topic of discussion to effectively convey information to their followers. The strategies revealed in the study show that the delivery and sharing of information by social media health opinion leaders play an important role, namely in reducing information complexity, health orientation, stimulating interest, correcting information and mythic perceptions, and strengthening the image and ethics of medical professionalism. However, there is no emotional stimulation for those who follow their favourite social media health opinion leaders. As a result, the study suggests that social media health opinion leaders improve their emotional stimulation strategies to add value to the quality of parasocial relationships with their followers, thereby strengthening their relationship with their followers. To empower them, an empowerment program for female heads of households is carried out. This research describes efforts conducted by members of the program to overcome hindrances faced in their position as female heads of household, particularly within their roles in both domestic and public spaces. This study uses a case study approach in which data were collected using in-depth interviews to eight informants including PEKKA members, officers, and corresponding household members. Participatory observations are conducted in three months, looking into PEKKA-related activities and the informants daily practices. The findings from this study reveal that through close and dialogic communication processes between the female heads of household and PEKKA officers, they can openly share their problems and receive support to solve their problems. Interpersonal communication helps the female heads of household in gaining trust and becoming role models for their families. This form of communication also enables wives to gain their husbands’ trust and render them equal partners. It is concluded that through the processes of interpersonal communication, female heads of household can position themselves as subjects that challenge the impeding patriarchal values. Interpersonal communication in the PEKKA program, both as practice and shared knowledge, is considered effective as a means to empower female heads of household. They often face discrimination such as people refusing casual contact and social isolation from the community due to the stigma people hold. These discriminatory actions have a detrimental effect on the patients’ emotional and mental health. The effect is reported to other infectious diseases such as COVID-19. Discrimination toward COVID-19 survivors was high in 2021. Despite the sentiments going down in 2022, no studies have been conducted to explore the phenomenon. Hence, this study attempts to understand the causes and effects on the mental health of women COVID-19 survivors. Therefore, the study employed qualitative research to determine the causes and effects on the mental health of women COVID-19 survivors. To arrive at the result, researchers interviewed six COVID-19 survivors that were infected in 2021 and 2022 purposely from civilian, media, and medical practitioners. The result of the study discovered four themes namely ‘Public Reaction Towards COVID-19 Survivors’, ‘Survivors’ Behaviour During the Mistreatment’, ‘Mental Health of Survivors facing Public Discrimination’, and ‘Causes of the Discrimination according to the Survivors’ - all of which answered the research question developed. By creating an indicator that recognises early warning systems of potential indicators of conflict, the government may be able to address this issue as well as other potential kinds of discrimination. Containing pictures, words and graphics that are familiar and present in the targeted group’s realities, advertisements, in addition to financial gains, it also greatly reflects and influences the socio-cultural construct and worldview of a community. In advertising operations carried out particularly via social media platforms, the use of language to manipulate gender depiction as an advertising strategy is recurrently observed. On this premise, this qualitative study looked into the language used in Malay advertisements for beauty products available on Instagram, a social media application. The feminist stylistic framework (Mill, 1998) served as the foundation for the textual analysis approach used to examine 150 Instagram adverts for Malay beauty goods. The stylistic features in particular were evaluated based on Verdonk (2002)'s framework, with a focus on the use of language in depicting women and the role of the language in shaping the depiction. The results demonstrated that the stylistic features utilised in Malay beauty products advertisements contained characteristics that are stereotypically assigned to women. The extensive effect of patriarchy, stereotypes, and woman sexualisation as a marketing tactic is also evident in the seller's language use. This study aims to offer evidence-based justifications for changes to be made to the existing social media advertising practice, especially in terms of language appropriateness and ethics. Research on the COVID-19 vaccination in newspapers and its acceptance among the masses is still quite scarce. The study adopted a corpus approach that involves wordlist, keyword list, collocates, and concordance analysis to analyse how ‘COVID-19 vaccination’ was framed in a focused and specialised English Malaysian newspapers corpus. #Lanscbox 5.0 corpus tool was employed in conducting the empirical analysis. The empirical analysis revealed that ‘COVID-19 vaccination’ was positively framed in different ways in the newspaper. The analysis of collocates and concordance lines revealed that the news reports mainly used Solution-oriented Frame which highlighted the Malaysian government’s effort in combating the pandemic. The newspaper was also found to use Mathematical frame in the effort to convince the public with regards to the updates and statistics of vaccine takers. Nevertheless, the results also revealed the usage of sensational phrases that framed the COVID-19 vaccination negatively. These findings can enlighten newspaper practitioners on what should be done and avoided in framing such an issue in their writings as well as how the public will perceive it. Social media transmits information on demonstration activities by enabling the creation, collection, and dissemination of false information or seditious libel, which exposes the country to external attacks and threats. Furthermore, young people’s negative political participation activities on social media, such as creating and disseminating false information, making harsh remarks, generating turmoil to acquire popularity or go viral, can potentially lead to cybercrimes. This research identified the impacts of media literacy competencies, namely access, analysis and evaluation, creation, reflection, and action, on political participation integrity among young people. This study distributed a survey to targeted university students in Melaka, Malaysia using the simple random sampling method. The students’ participation was purely voluntary. A total of 388 responses were successfully collected. The structural equation authenticated that four competencies significantly influenced the participants’ political participation integrity: access, analysis and evaluation, reflection, and action. In addition, young people who have media literacy skills showed a stronger preference to engage in political activities with higher moral conduct. The findings provided valuable insights about young people's political participation integrity on social media in Malaysia.
