Few have aspirations to “dream big.” From an economic perspective, high-growth firms provide many benefits. This empirical study explores both country-level contextual factors such as country competitiveness or innovativeness and individual-level factors associated with high-growth, such as an entrepreneur’s market expansion plans, new product perceptions, export orientation and use of latest technologies. In this context, we investigate whether to “dream big” is associated with specific strategic intentions and which influencing factors hinder or foster aspirations to grow the business by more than 20 employees within five years while developing it into an established business. Utilising random sampling of data in six ASEAN countries, collected in the years 2013 to 2015 and comparing male to female entrepreneurs, the regression results of this empirical study show that although high growth-oriented entrepreneurs in both start-ups and established enterprises account for only 2.7% of all enterprises in this study, high-growth aspirations can only partially be sustained by early-stage entrepreneurs into the next business phase since it depends on several factors: (1) receiving funding (for both genders); (2) being export oriented (for male entrepreneurs); and (3) perceptions of having new products or services to offer to the market (for women entrepreneurs). Both genders are less prone to pursue their initial early-stage growth goals as established entrepreneurs. We infer that established entrepreneurs gain more clarity on the deployment of growth through implementation in the organisation while running their businesses and therefore may be more realistic in their predictions or less confident in their pursuit of ambitious goals.","PeriodicalId":44777,"journal":{"name":"Asian Academy of Management Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43712113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is no doubt that wellbeing of the employees is one of the secret recipes that generates high return value for all levels of chains; the individual and the organisational productivity and growth as well as nation’s prosperity. However, majority of leadership researchers have failed to capture the multi-dimensional concept of EW. Moreover, the studies of the impact of leadership styles on EW are limited and narrow-focused. Thus, this study aims to examine the role of authentic leadership (AL) style on EW. This study uses meso-mediational relationship through financial and non-financial rewards and meaningful work and how they affect EW. Data were collected from 343 employees in 30 manufacturing companies in Malaysia. The finding reveals that the positivity of authentic leaders indirectly influences EW through non-financial rewards and meaningful work. It is also suggested that financial rewards and non-financial rewards should be measured separately in consideration of current socioeconomic conditions and employees’ motivational needs.","PeriodicalId":44777,"journal":{"name":"Asian Academy of Management Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46297178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also extends existing research to observe the role of mutual recognition respect and intrinsic motivation in job performance. By using a structural equation model approach to analyse the data survey from 387 respondents, who were working at interior design and construction companies, the results revealed that inclusive leadership has a positive impact on key determinants such as employee well-being, person-job fit, and innovative behaviour. However, person-job fit and employee well-being had no significant direct impact on job performance. The study also identified the mediating role of innovative behaviour in the linkage between person-job fit and job performance. Moreover, the results recognised two potential mediators as mutual recognition respect and intrinsic motivation could create a relationship between employee well-being and job performance. The findings highlighted theoretical and empirical contributions to further understanding of the roles of leader-member exchange policies on job performance. Finally, some managerial implications were suggested to enhance job performance in the workplace.","PeriodicalId":44777,"journal":{"name":"Asian Academy of Management Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44874546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The extant literature on this has majorly focused on the antecedents of impulsive shopping, prominent among these include traits (like sensation-seeking and impulse buying tendency or IBT), motives (utilitarian, hedonic), shoppers’ resources (time and money), and marketing stimuli. Although personality is a key determinant of consumer decision-making, the role of personality traits, specially extraversion, neuroticism, and conscientiousness, in impulse buying is not conclusive. Also, there exists a need for analysing impulse buying behaviour with respect to product-specific situations rather than general IBT. The present study fills this gap by analysing the role of three personality traits on impulse buying. A scenariobased online experiment was conducted, and the sample respondents were randomly categorised into two groups. The former group had respondents with an instrument to measure their IBT in general, while the later had respondents for whom the instrument was shared with a scenario built around the product category of apparel. With the data set of 386 respondents, the study reveals that the relationships between the two personality Chandan Parsad et al. 42 traits—extraversion and neuroticism, and IBT—are independent of the product category. However, the influence of conscientiousness on impulsive buying tendency depends on the product category. The study concludes with managerial implications.","PeriodicalId":44777,"journal":{"name":"Asian Academy of Management Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46534124","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research aims at developing and testing a model of celebrity endorsement with celebrity-product congruence and attractiveness as predictor variables, with consumer involvement affecting a consumer assessment of the brand and purchase intention. The research has been guided by current attention being given to the significance of celebrities for endorsing products. However, the same has not been duly explored in the context of celebrity endorsement, with consumer involvement as a mediating variable, and further its impact on consumers’ evaluation. The present research discusses the relationship effect of celebrity endorsement on consumers’ evaluation of the communication done through the celebrity endorsing the brand. The study highlights mediating role of consumer involvement for both high and low involvement products in formation of attitude towards advertisement and buying intention. Using mall intercept method, the data was collected from 246 respondents. Structural equation modelling was used for analysing the data using AMOS 22.0. The results indicate that consumer responses are maximised when endorser attractiveness and consumer involvement interact with each other. Also, it is observed that consumer involvement has maximum impact on attitude toward advertisement. The paper closes with theoretical and managerial implication.","PeriodicalId":44777,"journal":{"name":"Asian Academy of Management Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49438285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Building upon the Cognitive Coping Theory and Self-determination Theory, this research tested the model combining of work-family conflict, coping strategies, and flourishing. The hypotheses are examined through correlation and path analysis of 173 adult learners using Partial Least Square (PLS) 3.0. Based on the findings, work-family conflict was found to have a significant relationship with problem-focused coping, emotional focused coping, and flourishing. The results further showed that the relationship between work-family conflicts and flourishing was mediated only by problem- focused coping. In general, the findings suggest organisations to offer emotional support and managerial understanding to their employed adult learners to help in reducing stress and lessening work-family conflict. Besides that, the management of distance education is crucial to improve student retention and completion rates, by providing emotional support to the adult learners until they survive the initial “online learning-curve hump.”","PeriodicalId":44777,"journal":{"name":"Asian Academy of Management Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48580164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two indicators designate the level of FD, namely liquid liabilities and stock market capitalisation, and gross fixed capital formation are used in estimating the determinants of MPE which is generated using structural vector auto regressive (SVAR) in an open economy approach. Accordingly, an autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model is used in examining the effects of FD and gross fixed capital formation on MPE. Using a yearly time series data spanning from 1991 to 2016, the results revealed that there is a cointegration between FD and gross fixed capital formation on MPE. Interestingly, FD has a negatively significant effect on MPE on output and inflation, which indicates that a more developed financial system has hindered the effectiveness of the monetary policy.","PeriodicalId":44777,"journal":{"name":"Asian Academy of Management Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41459379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With a research data including 4,493 observations from 2008 to 2017, we find that both the choice to pay dividends and dividend payout ratio are positively affected by money supply and this effect is mitigated by corporate cash holdings. The determinants studied include capital-labour ratio, education level ratio, firm size, information technology, and communication expenses, training expenditure, wage rates, and research and development expenditure. This study uses data on 531 firms based on the latest census of 2015 obtained from the Department of Statistics, Malaysia using the Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) approach. Based on the results, the firm’s overall TE level is high at 0.836. For the determinants of TE, it was found that firm size can reduce the inefficiencies of firm, while capital-labour ratios shows a positive relationship with technical inefficiencies in firms. The policy implication is that the electrical and electronic manufacturing industry needs to focus on scale economic achievement and high technology production in line with the competency level of employee and create more international industry technical cooperation.","PeriodicalId":44777,"journal":{"name":"Asian Academy of Management Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43438473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
