In the current practice of takaful, the disbursement of family takaful benefit is subject to the demise of takaful certificate holder. Upon maturity of the certificate, if the certificate holder is alive, he will enjoy takaful \u0000benefit but not the beneficiary or hibah recipient. Accordingly, he takes back the donation \u0000that he made earlier, which makes the arrangement contentious, as long as the Islamic \u0000value is concerned. To resolve this issue, the paper suggested that the takaful benefit could \u0000be disbursed based on umra and ruqba concepts as they are subject to the survival of the contracting parties. Umra and ruqba are valid provided that once the donation is \u0000executed, the donated object should never be returned to the donor. These concepts are appropriate for takaful because the beneficiary can enjoy takaful benefit only when the certificate holder dies before the maturity of certificate. Once the certificate holder dies, \u0000takaful benefit cannot be provided to him. The paper argues that the application of umra and ruqba concepts minimises the consequential issues that arise when takaful benefit is disbursed by nomination or inheritance or absolute hibah. Analysing the opinions of the \u0000classical Islamic jurists, the paper concludes that the application of umra and ruqba in disbursement of takaful benefit could be done with a structured checklist form.

The study utilised 263 top administrators’ completed questionnaire survey from universities in Peninsular Malaysia. The statistical techniques employed in this study were descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and a full-fledged structural equation modelling to address the research questions and hypotheses testing. The findings revealed that long-term strategic planning initiatives (LSPI) required a thorough revision; communication and decision-making, and organisational climate of Malaysian higher education institutions (MHEI) persisted as challenges in improving the SMHEI. It was also revealed that the implementation of balanced scorecard could enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of MHEI. This study provides a basis for future studies, particularly in the Peninsular Malaysia context. Theoretically, the study also found that not only leadership perspectives required further investigation but also the financial, customer, internal process, and learning and growth perspectives in the administration for SMHEI. A lot of attention has been given to the link between financial literacy and saving thus neglecting other factors that are closely related to individuals. According to Bandura’s (1977) theory, financial behaviour is closely related to personal factors such as individual characteristic, cognitive ability, self-efficacy, and religious faith. Therefore, this study aims to examine all the factors predicting private saving. Using 224 Malay respondents, logistic regression analysis was conducted. This study found that parents and religious faith significantly predicted the likelihood of private saving, but individual characteristic, cognitive ability, and self-efficacy did not significantly predict the likelihood of private saving. Thus, this study recommends using parents and religious officers to guide the Malay communities in their private saving.

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of corporate governance towards companies’ performances which consequently affect the timeliness of any report submitted to the local authority. This study takes the industrial product sector and the annual reports of companies operating therein and a list of submission dates of annual report to Bursa Malaysia by Malaysian public listed companies for data analysis. Regression analyses were performed to examine the relationship between corporate governance and company’s performance using return on asset (ROA) and return on equity (ROE) which will eventually affect the timeliness submission of the annual report to Bursa Malaysia. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) duality and independent audit committee carry a significant relationship with timeliness of financial reporting whereas 8.8% of the studied companies submit early within the statutory requirement while the remaining 91.2% submit timely. Entrepreneurs are responsible for not only generating income to themselves but also to others in terms of job creation. However, the issue of the entrepreneurs’ well-being is hardly being touched upon particularly in the context of stress, work motivation, and performance in enterprises of small and medium sizes in Malaysia. Work motivation as the mediator is the main contributions from the study. Therefore, the study aims to examine these relationships within this context. Stress, motivation, and performance were measured using A Shortened Stress Screening Tool (ASSET), Multidimensional Work Motivation Scale (MWMS), and Individual Work Performance (IWPQ), respectively. Questionnaires were distributed among the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) entrepreneurs located in Klang Valley and approximately 150 respondents responded. Data were analysed using the hierarchical multiple regression method. The results showed that certain stressors such as work relationship, work overload, job security, and resources and communication significantly affect motivation. Meanwhile, work motivation significantly predicts performance. Finally, stressors such as work relationships, work-life balance, job security, and pay and benefits significantly influence performance. Overall, work motivation partially mediated stress and performance relationship. Entrepreneurs should be aware of these significant stressors and conduct interventions so as to reduce their stresses and thus, improve their work motivation and performance.

Several studies have examined the role of reference groups (private and public) on purchase intentions in the sports marketing area. However, there is a shortage of investigation into the impact of reference groups for each type of sports consumer (spectatorship and participation). Additionally, the effect of strangers on the purchase intentions of sports consumers has been overlooked. After drawing from the social identity theory and conducting experimental research with 593 respondents who have interest in either watching or playing sports, as well as analysing the research with structural equation modelling, the results show that private groups influence the purchase intentions of participation for sporting products. However, public groups and strangers influence the spectatorship purchase intentions of sporting products. This study provides a contribution to the social identity theory by revealing that reference groups provide a diverse effect on purchase intentions for each type of sports consumer.

The decision of selecting a school by the parents for their kids is based on a multitude of factors that differ from one society to another depending on its culture, economic status, religion and others. The objective of the present research is to identify and prioritize the factors that can enhance the quality of education in an international Islamic school located in Kuala Lumpur from the perspective of parents. The researchers employed both qualitative and quantitative approaches for data collection. The qualitative data were collected through interviewing 10 parents whose kids are currently enrolled in the school, while the quantitative data were collected through a questionnaire survey based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). A thematic analysis and AHP were used for analysing the qualitative and quantitative data, respectively. Findings from the thematic analysis resulted in 19 factors; however, only 8 factors with higher frequency were selected to represent the factors expected to enhance the quality of education. The AHP analysis resulted in prioritizing these 8 factors according to parents' judgements. The results show that the Islamic environment represents the most desired factor, followed by quality of teachers and school discipline.

However, the available products in the markets are deemed to be a burden to the low to medium income earners, while the mortgage takaful only compensates selected cases such as death and total permanent disability without including the protection against those who loss an effort to work. Hence, this study derives a new formula of Islamic home financing where the profit is calculated based on one-third of the total amount of financing, while the new model of mortgage takaful will compensate those who are losing effort to work. Therefore, this study aims to derive a new formula of home financing and mortgage takaful model by using an integrated model.

Malaysia’s employee engagement score values were recorded at 61% and 59% for years 2015 and 2017, respectively. Low quality condition of new vehicles produced by Malaysia’s national automotive manufacturing companies is potentially caused by non-engaged employees. In academic literature, Job Demand-resource (JD-R) is the most widely used theory in employee engagement study. However, there are still a few gaps associated with the theory (i.e., inconsistence finding). In addressing the research gaps, this present study aims to examine whether job-related variables (i.e., job characteristics and job demands), personal-related variable (i.e., positive psychological capital), and environmental-organisational related variable (i.e., total reward) influence employee engagement. The relationships among the variables were explained using two selected theories, namely the JD-R theory, and Self Determination theory. This study makes several significant contributions to practitioners and theories especially on the employee engagement context. Generally, findings from the study significantly contributed knowledge to practitioners especially from Malaysia’s national automotive manufacturing companies on the major factors influencing employee engagement for them to understand, describe, and explain. In addition, for the theories, the study added to the general body of knowledge and current research work on the effects of job-related variables Akmal Latiff Ayob and Norzanah Mat Nor 34 (i.e., job characteristics and job demands), personal-related variable (i.e., positive psychological capital), and organisational-environmental related variable (i.e., total reward) on employee engagement.

The respondents of this study were final year students from TVET HLIs in Malaysia. Using proportionate stratified sampling and followed by convenience sampling method, 431 questionnaires were distributed to nine higher TVET institutions. From that, 398 questionnaires were used for data analysis using SPSS version 22 and SmartPLS 3.0. The measurement model showed that the constructs were reliable and valid. Meanwhile, the structural model showed that there is a direct and significance relationship among all constructs. Two mediators were tested in this research which were service quality and corporate image. Bootstrapping procedure indicated that there was a direct and significant effect between latent constructs. The mediating test statistically showed that there was a partial mediation of student satisfaction and corporate image on the relationship between Sallaudin Hassan et al. 94 service quality and student loyalty. This research recommended that TVET HLIs should improve the level of service quality, corporate image, and satisfaction to ensure student satisfaction and loyalty.
