It may be necessary to return to such efficiencies if we are to use short word, limited memory, constrained instruction set machines.\u0000 One panelist believes that programming techniques superior to those “into which we were frozen 15 years ago” can be designed. Another panelist is concerned with the social values of balancing economy, convenience and security.","PeriodicalId":447373,"journal":{"name":"ACM '75","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127035197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Of course, this is not always the case because frequently he is constrained by the local environment; an appropriate graphics system may already exist or the biases of the computing scene may favor a particular system organization. Never the less, the potential user may still have to select among several different graphics systems.\u0000 We will be discussing high-performance graphics systems. By this is meant the ability to display at least a few thousand lines and most likely hardware capability for rotation, translation, and clipping of the image. The term graphics device or display includes the actual display tube and associated driving electronics, any special-purpose hardware and possibly a small computer if the computer is used strictly to control the graphics device and is not available for general-purpose computing even if such computing is related to the graphics application.","PeriodicalId":447373,"journal":{"name":"ACM '75","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129186321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Examples chosen from German language, symbolic logic, legal procedure and clinical medicine programs illustrate student-program interactions. The programs show the results of research analyses of the knowledge and skills to be learned in each of the subject matter areas and studies of what the learner is required to do in order to learn.","PeriodicalId":447373,"journal":{"name":"ACM '75","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132401009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The discussion summarizes design principles relating to the scope of system software, privacy and security, processor organization, file structure, network connections, hardware selection, programming techniques, standards, and use of resources. Differences with what appear to be widespread belief and practice are cited, including such matters as the size of the programmer staff, the significance of the privacy issue, the importance of the choice of languages and language constructions, the primary causes of system failure, and efficiency.","PeriodicalId":447373,"journal":{"name":"ACM '75","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128166745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One typical triple is (16, 6, 64). A system has been developed in which (10<supscrpt>8</supscrpt>, 10<supscrpt>3</supscrpt>, 10<supscrpt>8</supscrpt>) is readily attainable, and M can be changed during execution. To achieve efficiency and portability, the implementation makes extensive use of the SAC-1 system developed by George Collins. This paper describes the routines comprising the system, and discusses a sample application, Theoretical and empirical computing times are also presented.","PeriodicalId":447373,"journal":{"name":"ACM '75","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130301637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sequential structure is used in Trie and linked list structure is used in Doubly Chained Tree. A model of hybrid tree structures is presented which employs storage structures at levels where they are most efficient. The model parameters are determined by the densities of key components. A related hit ratio problem is solved so that these densities can be estimated. Analyses are given to determine appropriate tree structures from the model.","PeriodicalId":447373,"journal":{"name":"ACM '75","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114212374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
