Abstract

In the early years of electronic computing, much attention was given to efficient algorithm design and implementation. It may be necessary to return to such efficiencies if we are to use short word, limited memory, constrained instruction set machines. One panelist believes that programming techniques superior to those “into which we were frozen 15 years ago” can be designed. Another panelist is concerned with the social values of balancing economy, convenience and security.
