The very important aerodynamic phenomenon which can be highlighted in this work, is to distinguish the three known laminar, transitory and turbulent air flow patterns and their simultaneous influence on temperature behavior that have compared with drag coefficient evolution according to Reynolds number variation. Using the Fluent software to resolve our problem aero-dynamical and thermal variation phenomena that occurred in the greenhouse environment have been combined. Where, the finite volume method was adopted to carry out the fullness elliptic partial differential equation problem. Where, the three dimensional mesh grid has been used to determine the computational domain geometry of the greenhouse section, moreover the external medium around the bluff body. The numerical study of the agricultural tunnel greenhouse exposed to a three-dimensional of air flow taken account in this work has been considered with two directions longitudinal and transversal at different values of the wind speed. The evolution of the temperature inside the greenhouse is influenced by the latter. Furthermore, the drag coefficient evolution with the wind velocity has been studied, and found in good agreement with the literature.","PeriodicalId":447143,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Symposium on Environment-Friendly Energies and Applications (EFEA)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126338152","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The five circuits allow the calculation of stator and rotor fault-related currents, in form of 2(p±1)-pole space vectors for 2p-pole machines. The formal calculation of fault-related currents is very useful to define fault indicators and tools for diagnosis, and in case of parallel-connected stators (like in many wind generators) the split-phase current signature analysis becomes viable. In fact, by reversing the equations linking split-phase current amplitudes and eccentricity degrees, original fault indicators are carried out in this paper. The new indicators are validated by simulations of a 1800kW wind induction generator with static, dynamic, and mixed faults in full-load conditions. The simulations are carried out by using a full FEA model of the motor, implemented by time-stepping FEM-circuit co-simulation software (Maxwell-Simplorer). A good match is obtained between theoretical calculations and simulations.","PeriodicalId":447143,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Symposium on Environment-Friendly Energies and Applications (EFEA)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126087612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our main contribution is a novel distributed double auction mechanism which allows any peer to act as an auctioneer and the blockchain mechanism ensures that a peer behaves lawfully while acting as an auctioneer. Using experimental evaluation we show that (1) the distributed auction converges quickly, (2) it minimizes energy loss due to long transmission, (3) computational overhead due to employing a blockchain is negligible, (4) it is efficient and (5) it can implement trade restrictions imposed by the energy distribution network.","PeriodicalId":447143,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Symposium on Environment-Friendly Energies and Applications (EFEA)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122402942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent developments have brought a series of new challenges, such as how to manage the de-carbonization process and the need to guarantee security of supply and the cost-effectiveness of the service for businesses and households. Sustainability has fundamental role in the Italian National Development Plan. Indeed, environmental and social indicators are included in the cost-benefit analysis (CBA) and are applied to development projects of transmission network. Dialogue with stakeholders forms the basis for all activities. in fact a proactive approach to the engagement with interested parties is necessary, such as national and local authorities, municipalities, the general public, trade unions and environmental organizations, because stakeholders' involvements key to delivering development targets.","PeriodicalId":447143,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Symposium on Environment-Friendly Energies and Applications (EFEA)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132686795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recuperation of braking energy in drives with vertical transport of load, as well as during the speed reduction within high inertia drives present the most decisive factors for active rectifiers application. The power factor to the grid is approximately equal to unit, but can be adjusted differently if necessary to dynamically compensate for the reactive power of other consumers connected to the same bus as drive with active rectifier. This is only possible if there is an adequate reserve in the power of the inverter. One of the major issues concerning the active rectifier is its operation under distorted grid voltages, due to harmonics or unbalances, which inflict large low-order harmonics in the output voltage and input currents. Although listed advantages make an active rectifier the best choice for high performance electrical drives, the mitigation of low order harmonics in grid currents under different kinds of distortions and unbalances is still a problem analyzed in research community, as well as in the paper.","PeriodicalId":447143,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Symposium on Environment-Friendly Energies and Applications (EFEA)","volume":"139 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115191248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Consequently, very often there was not enough space to treat this machine in undergraduate electrical machines curricula in the past. But times changed and today this machine is often an integral part of wind turbines as electric generator. This way, getting familiar with the relevant operating principles becomes a desirable task for undergraduate students. This paper proposes a circuit-based theoretical approach which may serve as a template for an undergraduate lecture. To this end, firstly the basic characteristics of the wind turbine are introduced. Afterward, the operating principles of the doubly-fed induction machine are explained with reference to the single-phase equivalent circuit. A method based on the superposition principle is proposed for circuit solving, exploiting the concept of ‘virtual’ synchronous speed. An example given in the paper further illustrates the principle of operation and shed light on the power flows.","PeriodicalId":447143,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Symposium on Environment-Friendly Energies and Applications (EFEA)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114110342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The feedstock was pretreated using a two stages dry milling process and the experiments were performed for two different mass flow rates (600 and 900 kg h−1). Untreated and pretreated stems were both anaerobically digested in batch reactors under mesophilic conditions for 28 days. The cumulative biogas production from the pretreated materials exceeded 212 Nm3 t−1 of volatile solids, showing a 137% gain compared to the raw material. Such a gain resulted far above the known range for size reduction pretreatments. Processed stems also showed a significant decrease in the acid detergent fiber content. The specific electric energy requirement for pretreatment decreased from 97.8 to 76.5 kWh t−1 of processed material with increasing the mass flow rate. The net primary energy output from pretreated stems was enhanced by about 118% compared to the raw material. The cost for the extra energy produced by pretreatment was estimated at 0.034 € kWh−1, resulting fully compatible with the selling price for the electric energy produced from biogas in force in Italy.","PeriodicalId":447143,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Symposium on Environment-Friendly Energies and Applications (EFEA)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114729090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the dynamic model of the power unit satisfies the properties of differential flatness, one can transform it into an input-output linearized form. Moreover, it is shown that the state-space description of the power system can be written in the canonical (Brunvsky) form. Using the latter representation of the system's dynamics a solution to its control and state estimation problem is given. At a first stage, a stabilizing feedback controller is designed. Moreover, with the use of a differential flatness theory-based implementation of the Kalman Filter it becomes possible to solve the state estimation problem of the gas-turbine power unit. At a second stage, by redesigning the aforementioned Kalman Filter as a disturbance observer one can also identify in real time and compensate for exogenous perturbations that affect the gas-turbine power unit.","PeriodicalId":447143,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Symposium on Environment-Friendly Energies and Applications (EFEA)","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117182776","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Barriers to the use of Low GWP Refrigerants in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Sector in Mauritius","authors":"R. Dreepaul, K. For this purpose, a gap analysis was carried out among the major stakeholders in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) sector in Mauritius concerning the introduction of environment friendly refrigerants. Based on the gap analysis, it was found that the most frequently used refrigerants in the sector were HFCs and, to a lesser extent, hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC). However, because of their negative influence on the environment, natural refrigerants such as ammonia (NH3), carbon dioxide (CO2) and Hydrocarbons (HC), having minimal impact on the environment, are being considered. On the other hand, HFOs, a new family of synthetic refrigerants also having low GWP have just appeared on the market. While these refrigerants have several advantages in terms of energy savings and thermodynamic efficiency, they also presents some drawbacks related namely to safety and availability on the market. In this paper, we discussed the major gaps in the implementation of these aforementioned new alternatives (i.e. NH3, CO2, HC and HFOs). Additionally, we proposed some solutions to cater for these gaps. Finally, some conclusions are drawn on future possible policy and decision making with regards to the implementation of the above technology.","PeriodicalId":447143,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Symposium on Environment-Friendly Energies and Applications (EFEA)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124940467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
