Stationary frame resonant filter bank based output voltage control loop, which is complemented by capacitor current feedback based active damping loop, is employed. Utilizing the zero-state partitioning variable, a generalized form of scalar PWM for the FLI is developed and the minimum loss discontinuous PWM method is derived. The controller and modulator design and implementation details for the FLI-UPS are given. Linear and nonlinear loads for balanced and unbalanced load operating conditions are considered. Being operated at constant supply frequency the motor with Dahlander coils can be driven at a speed ratio of 2:1 without using a frequency converter. The advantages are the simplicity and the robustness of the machine as well as the saving of weight and installation space due to the omitted power electronic circuits, although the motor and its pole changeable coils have to be designed with particular care. While the Dahlander winding for single frequency operation has often been made subject of discussion, this paper presents the approach of an induction machine with pole-changing coils operating on mains supply with variable frequency for aircraft application. For optimal design of solenoid actuator general electromagnetic theory and empirical knowledge are simultaneously needed. First of all, the designer must perform the out-line design for the given item within a range of frame work by use of physical law and governing equations, and they carry out the optimal design through more detailed design process based on the empirical knowledge. The additional degrees of freedom, which appear as the number of phases increases, make the SVPWM more complex because VSI space vectors are not in a single two-dimensional space any more. Existing approaches are predominantly based on n- dimensional space decomposition into (n-l)/2 two-dimensional sub-spaces and this is adequate when the output is required to be sinusoidal or sinusoidal with higher harmonic injection. However, in the case considered here (five-phase series- connected two-motor drive) there are two independent reference voltage vectors in the two sub-spaces and the problem of active voltage vector selection arises. The methodology outlined here is capable of overcoming this problem, since the voltage space vectors are selected on the basis of criteria that are formulated for the multi-dimensional space, so that all the two-dimensional sub-spaces are simultaneously considered. The paper at first summarises the mathematical analysis that establishes the necessary conditions for appropriate selection of the voltage space vectors in the multi-dimensional case. This model is used to examine the performance of speed control when fed by hysteresis current controllers. The zero sequence components of the load affect the source during the process of instantaneous inactive or reactive power compensation. Different approaches have been used to overcome this issue, such as Clark transformation to separate zero sequence components from the phase quantities. This paper introduces a new approach to a previously proposed theory of the instantaneous reactive power compensation, minimization method. The proposed method is applicable to all balanced three-phase systems as well as unbalanced system without zero sequence components. This energy storage concept requires innovative control methods. In this paper, an UESS composed of two ultracapacitor banks and a boost converter is studied. The control objective is to regulate the output voltage subject to unpredictable incoming and outgoing energy flows. A hybrid control strategy, namely Gain Scheduling with Fuzzy Logic Control, is proposed. It consists of an Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) and a Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC). At each system operating point, properly-designed LQR can achieve fast damping for short-term or small disturbances on input and load currents. When system operating point changes, FLC can trace the changes and adaptively adjust the parameters for the LQR controller. First, an equation-based approach is used to determine the total magnetic field at the stator inner diameter. A 2D current sheet is formulated from the total field in the rotor reference frame. Next, the 2D current sheet is extended axially and used in a 3D FE analysis of the machines un-magnetized rotor. Due to the large airgap, main flux is not driven by a magnetic path into the stator, hence a 3D field analysis is necessary. In this paper, an AFPM ironless machine has been optimized in terms of maximum torque produced per joule losses.
