This year has been filled with several great DEIS events and conferences, including EIC, ICD, and CEIDP. Each event has allowed members to meet in person and, in some cases, to see their long-time friends. In other cases, members had an opportunity to meet new colleagues and bright young minds that will hopefully become new friends. These events are always a sharing of knowledge and experience coupled with social networking.","PeriodicalId":444,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine","volume":"40 6","pages":"5-5"},"PeriodicalIF":2.6,"publicationDate":"2024-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=10721382","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142447253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When DC voltage is applied on the polymer insulation, space charge may accumulate inside and cause electric field distortion. So, space charge accumulation is important for HVDC insulation materials. The origin of the space charge is considered to be from ionization and charge injection. The space charge accumulation is determined by the charge injection, transportation, extraction, trapping, and other factors. The charge injection rate at the electrode/insulation interface is a key factor that determines the charge accumulation inside insulation material.","PeriodicalId":444,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine","volume":"40 5","pages":"39-40"},"PeriodicalIF":2.6,"publicationDate":"2024-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=10646179","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142077600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventional high-efficiency motors generally use rare earth permanent magnets. In comparison, a SynRM does not use permanent magnets. Rare earth metals, the raw materials for permanent magnets, emit lots of CO\u0000<inf>2</inf>\u0000 during their mining processes and are thus inconsistent with creating a green society. Furthermore, such materials are not abundant and are only produced in a few countries. Therefore, a SynRM, which does not use rare earth permanent magnets, is superior from the perspective of preventing global warming and avoiding geopolitical risks.","PeriodicalId":444,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine","volume":"40 5","pages":"36-38"},"PeriodicalIF":2.6,"publicationDate":"2024-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=10646180","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142077650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
