The research is based on the present knowledge that points to the significant role of principals in the process of developing and changing school culture (Fullan, 2005). The aim of the research was to determine the extent of primary teachers’ perception regarding the level of development of selected characteristics of democratic school leadership and its connection to their estimate of the level of development of selected characteristics of democratic school culture. The research comprised 651 teachers from the City of Zagreb and Zagreb County. The research was conducted by means of a survey using a questionnaire containing two instruments: the Instrument for the measurement of characteristics of democratic school leadership (designed for the research) and the Instrument for the measurement of characteristics of democratic school culture (adopted from Spajic-Vrkas, 2016). According to the teachers’ perception, principals in the City of Zagreb and Zagreb County implement characteristics of democratic school leadership to a significant degree. They perceive the level of characteristics of democratic school culture as moderate. In addition, the research has determined a statistically significant high positive correlation between characteristics of democratic school leadership and democratic school culture. Key words: democratic school culture; democratic school leadership; primary school; principal, teachers. - U radu je prikazano istraživanje u kojem je provjeren odnos između demokratskoga skolskog vođenja i demokratske skolske kulture u osnovnim skolama. Istraživanje se temelji na dosadasnjim spoznajama koje upucuju na znacajnu ulogu ravnatelja u razvoju i mijenjanju skolske kulture (Fullan, 2005). Svrha je istraživanja utvrditi je li i u kojoj mjeri procjena ucitelja osnovnih skola o stupnju razvij enosti odabranih obilježja demokratskoga skolskog vođenja povezana s njihovom procjenom stupnja razvijenosti odabranih obilježja demokratske skolske kulture. U istraživanju je sudjelovao 651 ucitelj iz grada Zagreba i Zagrebacke županije. Istraživanje je provedeno anketnim ispitivanjem u kojem je koristen upitnik koji je sadržavao Instrument za mjerenje obilježja demokratskoga skolskog vođenja (izrađen za potrebe istraživanja) i Instrument za mjerenje obilježja demokratske skolske kulture (preuzet od Spajic-Vrkas, 2016.). Prema percepciji ucitelja ravnatelji u Gradu Zagrebu i Zagrebackoj županiji u znacajnoj mjeri implementiraju obilježja demokratskoga skolskog vođenja te percipiraju da u skolama postoji osrednja razina prisutnosti obilježja demokratske skolske kulture. {"title":"Experiences of Older People with Dancing as a Form of Physical Activity / Iskustva starijih osoba s plesom kao oblikom fizičke aktivnosti","authors":"A. In this paper, the focus is on dancing as an activity that includes motor skills, cognitive and sensorimotor capacities, emotional and social tendencies and sensory abilities. The aim of the study was to gain an insight into some aspects of participation in dance activities from the perspective of older persons who participate in dance activities. The results of the research demonstrate that older persons cite new life circumstances as a reason for engaging in dance activities, as well as good organization of dance activities for older persons. They also highlight the characteristics and relationships among members of a dance group, as well as the importance of the leader’s role, responses of their social environment, enrichment of daily life by dance and the discovery of dancing as a talent that contributes to the sense of community at a higher level. Certain difficulties related to participation in dance activities are highlighted as well (e.g. differences in participants’ abilities to master dance steps). Older persons regard participation in dance activities as yielding multiple benefits: as a determinant of physical and mental health, preserving cognitive functions, expanding the network of friends and acquaintances, and a feeling of having free time that is rich in activities. It can be concluded that dancing plays an important role in the lives of persons who participate in these activities, as well as that it represents a positive contribution to various aspects of their lives. Key words: active aging; andragogy; physical activity; dancing; older persons. - Kod aktivnog starenja osobito se istice fizicka aktivnost koja se smatra glavnim faktorom za ocuvanje dobrog fizickog i psihickog zdravlja. U ovom radu fokus je na plesu kao aktivnosti koja ukljucuje motoricke vjestine, kognitivne i senzomotorne kapacitete, emocionalne i socijalne sklonosti te osjetilne sposobnosti. Cilj istraživanja bio je dobiti uvid u neke aspekte sudjelovanja u plesnim aktivnostima iz perspektive starijih osoba koje sudjeluju u plesnim aktivnostima. Rezultati istraživanja pokazuju da starije osobe za sudjelovanje u plesnim aktivnostima navode nove životne okolnosti kao razloge bavljenja plesom i dobru organizaciju plesnih aktivnosti za starije. Također isticu karakteristike i odnose među clanova plesne skupine kao i važnost uloge voditelja, reakcije okoline, obogacenost svakodnevnog života plesom te otkrivanje plesa kao talenta koji doprinosi zajednistvu na visoj razini. Istaknute su i neke teskoce vezane uz sudjelovanje u plesnim aktivnostima (npr. razlicite mogucnosti sudionika u svladavanju plesnih koraka). The aim of the research was to assess the role of preschool teachers in supporting and enriching child’s play, gain insight into children’s actions in relation to it, as well as to ascertain the dominant perspective of the children and adults in the play. One hundred forty-five preschool teachers had been interviewed. The results have shown that teachers have had a shift of focus in understanding child’s play and assessing its efficiency. Even though teachers in general see play as a free child’s activity, it has become apparent they perceive it more as a learning method than a free child’s action. Play with rules was introduced to all age groups of children, including nursery. The play implemented in the research was assessed as successful, and the preschool teacher’s role was to guide or observe it. Even though the question of the relation in which the child enters and builds its own experiences is seen as an imperative in contemporary educational policies, teachers have stated that they are mostly focused on either their own or the child's perspective. Given the significant role of the school climate in predicting students’ violence against teachers, the aim of this study was to examine the relationship between perceptions of students’ respect for teachers and students’ violence against teachers. The research was conducted with two survey questionnaires intended for samples of students and teachers, and 451 students and 102 high school teachers in the City of Zagreb participated in the research. The perception of respect for teachers and different forms of violence was examined by assessing participants’ agreement on a six-point Likert-type scale (1 – strongly agree, 6 – strongly disagree). The results indicate that students and teachers, on average, feel that students respect teachers to a greater extent, and that they perceive different forms of violence against teachers to a lesser extent. The correlation analysis found a statistically significant negative association between respect for teachers and various forms of student violence against teachers. It can be concluded that respect for teachers plays an important role in explaining the occurrence of students’ violence against teachers. Keywords: respect; school climate; students; teachers; violence against teachers. - Postovanje ucenika prema nastavnicima jedan je od bitnih aspekata odnosa između ucenika i nastavnika koji se smatra važnom komponentom skolske klime. S obzirom na znacajnu ulogu skolske klime u predviđanju nasilja ucenika nad nastavnicima, cilj ovoga istraživanja bio je ispitati povezanost percepcije postovanja ucenika prema nastavnicima i nasilja ucenika nad nastavnicima. Istraživanje je provedeno dvama anketnim upitnicima namijenjenima uzorcima ucenika i nastavnika, a u istraživanju je sudjelovao 451 ucenik te 102 nastavnika srednjih skola u Gradu Zagrebu. Percepcija postivanja nastavnika i razlicitih oblika nasilja ispitana je procjenom slaganja sudionika na skali Likertova tipa od sest stupnjeva (1-izrazito se slažem, 6-izrazito se ne slažem). Rezultati ukazuju na to da ucenici i nastavnici u prosjeku vise smatraju da ucenici postuju nastavnike te da u manjoj mjeri percipiraju razlicite oblike nasilja nad nastavnicima. Korelacijskom analizom utvrđena je statisticki znacajna negativna povezanost između postovanja nastavnika i razlicitih oblika nasilja ucenika nad nastavnicima. Može se zakljuciti da postovanje nastavnika ima važnu ulogu u objasnjenju pojave nasilja ucenika nad nastavnicima. {"title":"The Connection Between Parental Sense of Competence and Support in Early and Preschool Children’s Upbringing / Povezanost doživljaja roditeljske kompetentnosti i podrške u odgoju djece rane i predškolske dobi","authors":"Lidija Fotez, A. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between how parents perceive their own parental competencies (parental selfefficacy, parental internal and external locus of control) and social support of close people (friends, family and significant others), according to sex and parental education. The study involved 194 subjects, 148 mothers and 46 fathers. A weak connection was found between parental self-efficacy and social support. Parents who perceive to be more self-effective estimate that they also receive more support from their environment and vice versa. No statistically significant difference was found in the perception of parental competence and the perception of social support with regard to sex, but the difference was found in parental self-efficiency and the external locus of control depending on the level of education. Parents with lower and high school education perceive themselves to be more self-effective in the parental role and have a larger external locus of control, compared to academically educated parents. In conclusion, it is important to recognize parents with low selfefficacy, i.e. lower parental competence, as well as those who estimate that they have little support from their environment, and to direct them to the possibilities of increasing parental competence. Keywords: parental competence; parental self-efficacy, parental internal and external locus of control; mothers; fathers; perceived social support. - Doživljaj roditeljstva promatra se kroz roditeljske stavove i uvjerenja o djeci i roditeljstvu. Cilj je istraživanja ispitati povezanost doživljaja roditeljske kompetentnosti (roditeljska samoefikasnost, roditeljski internalni i eksternalni lokus kontrole) sa socijalnom podrskom bliskih osoba (prijatelji, obitelj i znacajni drugi) s obzirom na spol i stupanj obrazovanja roditelja. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 194 ispitanika, 148 majki i 46 oceva. Utvrđena je slaba povezanost između roditeljske samoefikasnostii socijalne podrske. Roditelji koji sebe doživljavaju samoefikasnijima procjenjuju da i primaju vise podrske iz svoje okoline i obratno. Nije pronađena statisticki znacajna razlika po spolu u doživljaju roditeljske kompetentnosti i percepciji socijalne podrske, no razlika je utvrđena u roditeljskoj samoefikasnosti i roditeljskom eksternalnom lokusu kontrole ovisno o stupnju obrazovanja. Roditelji nižega i srednjega stupnja obrazovanja percipiraju se samoefikasnijim u roditeljskoj ulozi te imaju veci eksternalni lokus kontrole u odnosu na vise i visokoobrazovane roditelje. Zakljucno, važno je prepoznati roditelje s niskom samoefikasnosti, odnosno nižom roditeljskom kompetentnosti, kao i one koji procjenjuju malo podrske iz svoje okoline te ih usmjeriti kako povecati roditeljsku kompetentnost. By presenting the results of contemporary researches, the paper connects the achievements of Montessori pedagogic methods and strategies with the scientific indicators of educational neuroscience about the manners of positive impact on the development of an individual. The results of the educational neuroscience research will corroborate the postulates of Montessori pedagogy that state that understanding the developmental stages of upbringing, individual competences, and specificities of each child are important for upbringing. Specific cases will be used to emphasize that, apart from the cognitive competence, it is essential to develop psychomotor and affective competences, meaning that the development of these personality spheres is connected and interdependent. By providing the pedagogic perspective, the paper points to the need for further deliberation on how to shape an optimal curriculum. The paper suggests that various social and technological changes are reasons to consider pedagogic methods, strategies, and approaches of Montessori, which is also supported and substantiated by contemporary educational neuroscience. Key words: didactics; Montessori pedagogy; neurodidactics; neuroscience. - U ovom radu daje se uvid u osnovne postulate Montessori pedagogije i definicije suvremene obrazovne neuroznanosti, orijentirajuci se prema potrebama i rjesenjima za suvremene didakticke pristupe. Prikazom rezultata suvremenih istraživanja rad povezuje dostignuca Montessori pedagoskih metoda i strategija sa znanstvenim pokazateljima obrazovne neuroznanosti o nacinima pozitivnoga utjecaja na razvoj pojedinca. Rezultati istraživanja obrazovne neuroznanosti potkrijepit ce postulate Montessori pedagogije da je za odgojni pristup važno razumijevanje razvojnih faza odrastanja, individualnosti kompetencija i specificnosti odgajanika. Specificnim primjerima naglasit ce se da je uz kognitivne, bitno razvijati psihomotorne i afektivne kompetencije, odnosno da je razvoj ovih sfera licnosti povezan i međuovisan. Ponuđenom pedagoskom perspektivom rad ukazuje na potrebu daljnjega razmatranja kako pristupiti oblikovanju optimalnih kurikula. U radu se sugerira da je upravo zbog razlicitih drustvenih i tehnoloskih promjena potrebno razmisljati o pedagoskim metodama, strategijama i pristupima Montessori pedagogije, sto podržava i potkrepljuje suvremena obrazovna neuroznanost. In particular, it explores the possible relations between the modelling of educational institutions intended for the formation of political elites and the fabrication of the nation-state. In Argentina, the creation of free, compulsory elementary education was preceded by the development of secondary education through the setting up of the colegio nacional. These schools were formed during the political unification of the national territory after domestic post-independence wars. Note the name given to these institutions: national schools. How did the nation and the state appear in the organization of national schools? The method of the study is the case study, one of the qualitative research methods. The data were collected with The Classroom Observation Protocol (COP) and Semi- Structured Interviews with parents, teachers and vice-principals. The study was conducted in Turkey in a preschool education institution at a state university in Istanbul. This study was carried out with 15 children, two teachers, two vice-principals and five parents. In the study, the data were described using the method of content analysis. During the STEM training, 39 out of 48 indicators were observed by using the Classroom Observation Protocol (COP). It was concluded that the STEM education applied contains the desired STEM education items, and STEM education might be appropriately incorporated in early childhood classrooms. As the results of the interviews, it was concluded that parents did not have information about STEM education because they were not provided with enough information about it. Besides, teachers and vice-principals were satisfied with this training and they observed positive changes in children as the result of the STEM education. For the purpose of this research, 305 class teachers from four European countries (Serbia, Spain, Croatia and Hungary) were asked about their experiences and opinions on the use of ICT in biology classes. The aim was to determine whether they consider that this way of teaching is effective and may motivate pupils for further learning. The study is based on a sequential mixed-method design. The quantitative dimension of the research was conducted in a random experimental pattern, with the implemented pre-test and posttest in the control group; the qualitative dimension utilized the interview technique. The reserarch sample included students of Şehit Hüseyin Ruso Secondary School in Nicosia, Northern Cyprus, in school year 2016 -2017. Visual–Spatial Reasoning Test developed by the researcher was used for obtaining quantitative data, and a semistructured interview form for qualitative data. The quantitative data were analyzed with the use of the independent sampling t-test, Cohen’s d effect size coefficiency, and two-way variance analyses; content analysis was implemented for qualitative data. It was established that spatial reasoning skills of the students who used coding are significantly different to those of students who did not use coding; experimental group had a positive attitude toward the course and used their cognitive, sensory and psychomotor skills on a high level.
