The analysis of the Doppler navigation system, the backscatter model function and the geometry of wind vector measurements have shown that the wind vector over sea can be measured by an airborne Doppler navigation system employed as a multi-beam scatterometer. The principle considered and algorithm proposed in the paper can be used for the creation an airborne radar system for operational measurement of the sea roughness characteristics and for safe landing of an amphibious airplane on water, in particular under search and rescue missions.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"148 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123433012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PRF staggering has been considered as one of the most effective ways by which these consequential blind speeds can be eliminated. As it stands the optimization of such staggering has not been convincingly provided in a clear format in past studies. In this article previously reported techniques have been studied and also a comprehensive simulation tool which provides interesting results based on different techniques is developed. Furthermore a comparison of various common staggering methods has been given and a cost function has been proposed to describe a figure of merit for each of the concepts. In the end a practical system has been analyzed and comparative improvements have been cited on choosing the optimized method and values.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"36 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130461692","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Airborne pulse Doppler radar with an appropriate digital signal processing unit has a good potential to perform categorization or even classification, providing that radar parameters are carefully selected. This paper presents a helicopter categorization method, which is based on estimation of the main rotor blade tip velocity and the time interval between two successive main rotor blade flashes. Both incoherent integration and conventional coherent integration play an important role in the new method. Joint utilization of both integration types makes the method feasible without using unrealistic radar waveform parameters. Based on the L/N-quotient helicopter classification method, a new categorization procedure was developed. Compared to the original L/N-quotient method, the new method exploits both incoherent and coherent integration. Combined use of both integration types enables it to use effectively potential of dwell time and PRF. In addition, the new method includes a certain kind of moving windows edge detection algorithm that was found to improve the performance of the edge detection compared to the one introduced with the original L/N-quotient method.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121303331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Simplifying the development of software can go a long way toward decreasing the long development schedules and latency between the availability of new hardware and the transition of that hardware to production systems. This paper discusses the features of Gedae that facilitate developing sensor systems, specifically multifunction radar systems. In the paper we show that a small number of concepts (families, data flow, segmentation, exclusion and state) provide a powerful language for expressing the functional behavior of multi-function radars. We also show that it is possible to algorithmically create an efficient implementation of the functionality on a multiprocessor system.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"190 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116392467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis presented here shows first the exact solution to the problem of calculating the spectrum of a phase-quantized jamming signal when the quantization levels are equally spaced. The spectrum of the signal presents a primary term, which is simply an attenuated version of the signal received by the ECCM system, and false terms whose amplitude and location depend on the number of quantization bits. Afterward, the effect of time delay quantization introduced by range gate pull-off devices is analytically evaluated, combined to the phase quantization. Results show that this second distortion can be generally neglected with respect to the spurious terms due to the phase quantization.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131083951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is shown to be a promising signature for radar automatic target recognition. As a method for data dimension reduction and feature extraction, principle component analysis (PCA) and kernel PCA have found wide applications in pattern recognition field. According to the characteristics of target pose sensitivity and shift sensitivity, a localized PCA and a modified KPCA are proposed for radar HRRP recognition. Also the methods for selecting the kernel basis vectors and handling the range-shift alignment are carefully addressed. Finally, support vector machine (SVM) classifier is used to evaluate the classification performance based on measured data. Experimental results show the proposed methods are effective and KPCA outperforms PCA.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134095638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By employing bistatic geometries this limitation may be overcome. Bistatic radar systems will pay a great role in the coming decade since a large number of radar missions are being foreseen. Using existing transmitters, formations of small passive receivers will enhance capability to gather backscatter information from targets. This paper derives the bistatic ISAR geometries with separated transmitter and receiver. This application capitalizes on the advantages provided by bistatic geometries, such as high imaging rate, good stealth effect, etc. The possibility of obtaining ISAR images using the bistatic radar geometries and the characteristics of bistatic ISAR is theoretically discussed, and then verified using computer simulation results.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132711407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Riemannian space, obtaining feature coefficient using subspace methods can be regarded as an affine transformation, and the classifier can be deduced easily from the distance formula in Riemannian space. The classifier is compared with other classifiers and good performance is reported. This design for the classifier may serve as a guideline for dealing with the puzzle that how to combine feature extraction with classifiers reasonably in radar target recognition using range profiles.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132873589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A new tool has been developed for assessing the resolution and ambiguity properties for topologies assuming a radar network consisting of N transmitters and one common receiver, operating in a fully coherent or partially coherent mode. Combinations of monostatic and bistatic geometries are also considered. Simulation results outline the dependence of the multistatic ambiguity function on the relative positions of the nodes in the network and on the position of the target, but more importantly it shows the potential for enhancements in resolution and resolving ambiguities. Finally, the more complex case of N receivers and M transmitters is also developed, presenting two possible approaches for determining the overall ambiguity diagram of such a system.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132004189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The spikes can also be modelled statistically as extensions to the standard K-distribution model for sea clutter, as proposed by K.D. Ward et al. (1990). In this paper, the work in K.D. Ward et al. (1990) is extended to include the addition of thermal noise and it is also shown how the parameters of this model can be matched to real data. Results are presented for recorded airborne radar data, showing how the model can accurately match the characteristics of real clutter-plus-spikes-plus-noise, including the effects of pulse-to-pulse integration with frequency agility.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130248650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
