The effect of Earth's rotation around its own axis also adds an additional component to this Doppler frequency. The overall effect of the Earth's rotation on the Doppler turns out to be two correction factors in terms of a crab angle affecting the azimuth angle, and a crab magnitude scaling the Doppler magnitude of the clutter patch, interestingly both factors depend only on the SBR orbit inclination and its latitude and not on the specific location of the clutter patch of interest. Further, it is shown that the crab angle has maximum effect for an SBR on a polar orbit that is above the equator. The crab magnitude on the other hand peaks for an SBR on an equatorial orbit. It is also shown that Earth's rotation together with range foldover phenomenon significantly degrade the clutter suppression performance of adaptive processing algorithms. Detailed derivations of these results are presented in this paper.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126477648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The construction of the optimum weights at each range implies the estimation of the interference-plus-noise covariance matrix. This is typically done by straight averaging of snapshots at neighboring ranges. However, in most bistatic configurations, snapshot statistics are range dependent. Straight averaging results thus in poor performance. In an earlier paper, we proposed a range-dependence compensation method that provides optimum performance. However, this implies a large computational cost. In this paper, we adapt the method to provide optimum performance at low computational cost.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132207801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The stepper based volume 0.5 micron and 0.25 micron GaAs pHEMT processes utilize 4 inter-level metallisation and four dielectric layers for high frequency performance whilst maintaining the economies of scale of 150 mm (6\") diameter substrates. The fabricated GaAs X-Band PA MMICs exhibit 5 W to 10 W RF output power under pulsed conditions; 16 dB of power gain and power added efficiencies approaching 40%. Excellent repeatability and high yields over a number of wafers have been demonstrated. The design and GaAs process approach taken here with DUV stepper and 150 mm wafer diameter will lead to a significant cost reduction for high performance power amplifier MMICs up to 30 GHz.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131114461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically this paper addresses model to compute losses due to targets corrupting the training data (W.L. Melvin and J.R. Guerci, May 2001) (J.S. Bergin et al., April 2002) for airborne radars that employ space-time adaptive processing (STAP) (J. Ward, December 1994). The problem of realization of variable delay circuits is addressed. Delay line is not enough for accurately beam steering. A digital filter method by compensating channel dispersed delay for time domain beamforming is presented here. An ideal system with fractional sample delay hat occurs in insufficient sample of UWB pulse signal is not realizable. The two filter approaches involving FIR and allpass filter are given to approximate casual and stable system with the fractional delay. The Lagrange interpolation for FIR filter and complex cepstral computation for allpass filter are examined. A comparison of UWB pulse array directivity versus conventional phased array directivity has been done. The effect of different sampling rate and noise level is discussed. In the experiment, the FIR and allpass filter with a capability of accurate propagation delay compensation improved the beamforming performance remarkably. The results indicate the feasibility and effectiveness of the method.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115897702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the context of space based radar (SBR) applications, given the SBR parameters and the look angles the first problem is to translate these parameters into a data point on a map. This is realized by converting these parameters into conventional latitude and longitude and then using the corresponding image intensity to estimate the clutter covariance matrix. Using this approach, it is possible to pre-compute the desired weight vector for a location of interest on earth that the SBR is assigned to visit. As a result, using the measured data together with the weight vector, it is possible to test for target detection hypothesis accurately at the time of visit by the SBR.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124548362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this scheme the clutter is modeled by compound Gaussian distribution and unknown parameters, i.e. target amplitude and clutter, are estimated based on a posteriori distribution with a noninformative prior. Also a technique called Bayesian predictive densities is employed. In order to investigate the performance, we carried out the Monte Carlo simulation and its results are also compared with conventional detection schemes such as maximum likelihood and maximum a posteriori estimator. As a result, classical filters for orderly measurements, such as Kalman filter, cannot be used directly. There are three classes of OOSM (out-of-sequence measurements), respectively called single-lag OOSM, multiple-lag OOSM, and mixed-lag OOSM. For the first two classes of OOSM, C.A. Stelios et al (1988), R.D. Hilton et al., (1993), Y. Bar-Shalom (2002), and M. Mallick et al. (2001) have studied some optimal or suboptimal filters. This paper develops a recursive filter algorithm called UOOSMF (unified out-of-sequence measurements filter), which can sequentially process the OOSM in order of the time of arrival and is suboptimal in the linear MMSE sense under one acceptable approximation. The filter is accommodated with all the above three classes of OOSM. With the same measurements, the estimation accuracy of the UOOSMF is almost the same as standard Kalman filter for orderly measurements, and its computations and memory requirements are low. Numerical example proves the above conclusions.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126171645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, the performance evaluation associated with many detector structures is often intractable by analytical means. So computer simulation is an obvious choice for obtaining quantitative results if the radar is set to operate in hostile scenarios. Radar returns must be statistically modeled to predict the radar performance and optimize the resources. It is well known that as the patch size illuminated in low grazing angles by the modern high-resolution radar decreases, the statistical properties of the resulting backscatter or clutter no longer obey the central limit theorem and tend to deviate from the normal distribution in many practical scenarios. The experimentally measured amplitude probability density function (APDF) of clutter reflections exhibits the larger deviations and is better fitted by APDFs such as lognormal, Weibull, K-distribution, etc., depending on the illuminated surfaces. The work reported here shows the modeling and simulation of diverse clutters and their suitable APDFs for a given surface. It also takes into consideration the variations of scattering coefficient with grazing angle for the given surface. The validity of the simulated data is ensured through standard statistical tests. These statistical characterizations are more helpful in fixing the threshold for optimized performance.","PeriodicalId":444253,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005.","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126172870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
