While research on the problem dates back to the 1980s, interests in the computational complexity of variants of the problem and solution methodologies have been evolving in the past few years. This motivates us to present an up-to-date and comprehensive literature review on the topic. Aiming to provide a complete road map for future research on the coupled task scheduling problem, we discuss all the relevant studies and potential research opportunities. In addition, we propose several sets of benchmark instances for the problem in various settings and provide a detailed evaluation of all the available mathematical models with a view to facilitating future research on the solution methods.","PeriodicalId":443021,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Educator: Courses","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128045550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Laplace equation in porous matrix is derived using the Darcy’s equation and a general Reynolds equation is developed in bearing clearance zone for porous hydrodynamic journal bearing using micropolar fluid. The perturbation method is employed to find the dynamic response of Laplace and Reynolds equation. Modified Laplace and the general Reynolds are solved by finite difference technique with successive over relaxation scheme to account the steady-state and the dynamic film pressure in porous bush and the bearing clearance zone. The numerically computed results of stiffness and damping parameters of porous hydrodynamic journal under micropolar lubricant corresponding to varying bearing feeding parameter are presented for both Newtonian and micopolar lubricants.","PeriodicalId":443021,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Educator: Courses","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131761701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper methodologies have been developed for comparing & ranking interface materials with custom-built rigs built in GE Global Research, Bangalore for large sized IC engines. This work will discuss the three methodologies developed using: i) Journal Bearing Rig ii) Piston-Liner Rig and the iii) Valve-seat rig.

The Journal bearing Rig can be spun to engine linear speeds with lubricant heated to engine oil temperature. Scuffing & wear tests can be performed with this test rig to compare scuffing limits and steady state wear rates.

The valve-seat rig fixture is built within a MTS frame and can accommodate small sections of the actual engine valve and seat. We surface the main trends and authors in the area over the last two decades, and provide estimates of the density of the networks of both researchers and research. Clear evidence is provided of an area dominated by a number of high output researchers, with distinct and clear areas of research with little overlap. A probabilistic topic modelling approach is further applied to determine the main topics of research in the area. We conclude that there are significant areas of potential synergy as yet unexploited in this research domain. We also highlight the current topics that can be a particularly important focus for these synergy efforts.","PeriodicalId":443021,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Educator: Courses","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115443982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the high-speed application is the cryogenic turboexpander and they are used to refrigerate the gas stream in a liquefier. This article deals with the aerodynamic and thermodynamic analysis of bump type gas foil thrust bearings (BGFTBs), which are used to support the axial load of the helium turboexpander with a design speed of 2,40,000 rpm. The BGFTBs consists of very thin top and bump foils attached to the bearing base. The wedging action between the shaft collar and top foil is responsible for the development of aerodynamic pressure and this aerodynamic pressure supports the axial load of the rotor. Due to restricted converging passage for the gas flow between the collar and top foil, the process gas is likely to rise in temperature and distort the thin foils of the bearings. This paper presents a simulation method to analyze the aerodynamic and thermal behavior of the BGFTBs. The gas film is modeled using Reynold’s equation. The structural and Reynold’s equations are coupled together to predict the film thickness, pressure distribution and load carrying capacity. Further, the gas film is modeled by using an energy equation to predict the thermal characteristics. The Couette Approximation is used to predict the temperature distribution of the gas film. This approximation helps to delink the energy equation with Reynolds equation.","PeriodicalId":443021,"journal":{"name":"Engineering Educator: Courses","volume":"121 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113999637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
