Post-traumatic stress disorder is one of the most common anxiety disorders, one which develops as a result of being exposed to traumatic experiences, both psychological and physical. Post-traumatic stress disorder is also the main result of participation in active armed combat impacting war veterans, concerning mostly service undertaken outside their home country. Consequently, proper psychological preparation for armed combat, psychological support during service, as well as the support granted after soldiers return home, are of critical importance. This work characterises social support which is given to army personnel involved in armed combat. Methods of social involvement, which are provided to the soldiers taking part in military service outside their country, have also been described. The paper itself was written for two reasons: firstly, in order to exchange knowledge mainly in the areas of psychology and sociology; and secondly, to focus attention on those soldiers struggling with issues resulting from participation in military service outside their home country.","PeriodicalId":44293,"journal":{"name":"Health Psychology Report","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89572938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The AMS is based on the self-determination theory, which subdivides motivation into amotivation, extrinsic motivation and intrinsic motivation. The main purpose of this study was to examine the validity and reliability of the Polish version of the AMS and to identify motivation to study of Polish university students. The first sample consisted of 1592 Polish university students (653 males, 939 females) majoring in physical education, physiotherapy, tourism and recreation, sport or sport and tourism management. The second sample consisted of 49 Polish university students (13 males, 36 females) of tourism and recreation. The AMS was validated using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Cronbach’s α was used to estimate reliability and internal consistency of the scale. The AMS showed adequate levels of internal consistency (Cronbach α values above .78) and temporal stability (mean test-retest correlation = .88). Additionally, the fit indices of CFA were satisfactory (χ 2 / df = 4.95, GFI = .927, AGFI = .910, RMSEA = .050). Female students scored higher than males on four motivation subscales and lower on amotivation. The results confirmed the original seven-factor and 28-item structure of the Polish version of the AMS. The results support the use of the Polish version of the AMS as a tool for assessing university students’ motivation. The article is an attempt to describe the possible psychophysiological mechanism of ETS (i.e. mechanism of transmission of stimuli in connective tissue) based on biochemical reactions, which was first described in Eastern Medicine a long time ago. Some previously reported results suggest that it is possible to modulate the psychophysiological effects on the connective tissue, and that the internal ETS can be activated not only through internal acupoints but also through breath self-regulation techniques. Among the people specialized in such breathing are martial art fighters. In a very preliminary pilot study we investigate four cases in a Vietnamese Thiên Môn Đạo (TMD) group, where breathing techniques result in cardiovascular and blood pressure changes, which can indirectly suggest activation of ETS. An additional energy system in the human body is postulated. However, future research is seriously needed. Findings could be applicable e.g. in cardiac rehabilitation programs.","PeriodicalId":44293,"journal":{"name":"Health Psychology Report","volume":"16 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81841090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was a part of the second round of the Urban Health Equity Assessment and Response Tool (Urban HEART-2) project, which was a large, populationbased, cross-sectional study. Individuals aged ≥ 60 years were selected randomly through a multistage, cluster sampling method from 368 neighborhoods of 22 districts of Tehran. A total of 15,069 older adults, 79% married and 45.22% female, were included in the study. The mean age of the participants was 68.93 ± 7.27 years. The overall prevalence of physical domestic violence was 2.32%. Factors such as age, gender, schooling, and having a disability were significantly associated with domestic violence (p < .05). These results are likely to be an underestimate of what really happens in the community, as many authors have mentioned previously. Therefore, it is necessary to broaden our perspectives on the phenomenon of domestic violence against the elderly, especially in the fields of public health and nursing. key words domestic violence; older adults; prevalence; Urban HEART Vahid Rashedi id 1,2 · C,D,E,F Mohsen Asadi-Lari 3 · A,B,G Mahshid Foroughan 2 · D,F Agata Rudnik 4 · E,F Prevalence of and demographic factors associated with domestic violence among Iranian older adults: the results of Urban HEART-2 organization – 1: School of Behavioral Sciences and Mental Health (Tehran Institute of Psychiatry), Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran · 2: Iranian Research Center on Aging, University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences, Tehran, Iran · 3: Department of Epidemiology, School of Public Health, Oncopathology Research Center, Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran · 4: Institute of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Gdansk, Poland authors’ contributions – A: Study design · B: Data collection · C: Statistical analysis · D: Data interpretation · E: Manuscript preparation · F: Literature search · G: Funds collection corresponding author – Prof. Vahid Rashedi, School of Behavioral Sciences and Mental Health (Tehran Institute of Psychiatry), Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran, e-mail: rashedi.v@iums.ac.ir; vahidrashedi@yahoo.com to cite this article – Rashedi, V., Asadi-Lari, M., Foroughan M., & Rudnik, A. Psychological resiliency is one of such properties that support adaptation in difficult situations and conducive to adaptation to the disease. The aim of the present study was to analyze the relationship between resiliency and flexibility in coping of cardiac patients and to determine whether resiliency is a predictor of flexibility in coping with stress in this group. In the study the Assessment of Resiliency Scale (SPP-25) and the scale of Flexibility in Coping with Stress (KERS-14) were used. The participants of the study were 120 cardiac patients (72 men and 48 at the The results show that there is a statistically significant relationship between resiliency and flexibility in coping. Each of the resiliency dimensions, as well as the result of the overall resiliency, correlates positively with each of the dimensions of flexibility in coping. The analysis showed that resiliency is an important predictor of a dependent variable – flexible in coping. There is a positive relationship between resiliency and flexibility in coping with stress in cardiac patients. People with a higher intensity of resiliency in comparison to people with lower intensity of resiliency are characterized by greater flexibility in coping with stress. The dimensions of resiliency, in particular ‘Persistence and determination in action’ and ‘Openness to new experiences and sense of humor’, together with the duration of the disease, play a predictive role for flexibility in coping with stress.","PeriodicalId":44293,"journal":{"name":"Health Psychology Report","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89507990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
