The aim of this study is to review the literature on the hypothesis of the active placebo response as a mechanism of action of antidepressants. It was found that persons who expect the occurrence of side effects of a pure placebo taken under the guise of an antidepressant present a higher degree of depressive symptoms than persons who do not expect the occurrence of side effects. There are reasons to believe that the entirety or part of the difference in the effectiveness of antidepressants and placebo is due to the fact that participants of the clinical trials correctly guess which study group they have been assigned to.","PeriodicalId":44293,"journal":{"name":"Health Psychology Report","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76264442","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Other study measures completed were the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), the Positive and Negative Suicide Ideation Inventory (PANSI), and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). The four models of the MSPSS described in the literature were compared with confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The model with the best fit indices was examined for its internal consistency by calculating the MacDonald’s omega (ω) while criterion validity was examined through correlational analyses with other study measures. Measurement invariance in relation to gender was assessed with multigroup nested CFA. results Our results confirmed the original 3-factor structure of the MSPSS (Family, Significant others, and Friends). CFA showed that our data equivalently fitted the first (original first order 3-factor) and the fourth (second order 3-factor) MSPSS models. The reliability and criterion validity were satisfactory. Configural, metric and scalar measurement invariances in relation to genders were confirmed.","PeriodicalId":44293,"journal":{"name":"Health Psychology Report","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77767013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study involved an 71-year-old male patient diagnosed with PSP, and 9 matched healthy subjects. Neuropsychological examination of the patient was performed twice with a 6-month interval. A set of neuropsychological tests was used to assess both cognition and behaviour. Neuropsychological assessment revealed executive dysfunction dominance (planning deficits, reduced cognitive flexibility and abstract thinking, impulsiveness), reduced verbal fluency, psychomotor slowness and problems with memory retrieval from the long-term memory storage in contrast to significantly better recognition of the previ-ously learned information. According to emotional functioning, frontal change of personality was observed, with apathy, disinhibition, lack of insights, impulsiveness and “utilization behaviours”. The profile of emotional and cognitive impairments met the criteria for dementia. There was a progression of deficits at visit two in comparison to visit one. The longitudinal perspective allowed the dynamics of emotional, cognitive and behavioural changes to be described over time: from depression related to initially preserved criticism of the illness to apathy and emotional blunting and behavioural frontal syndrome connected with the systematic loss of insight. {"title":"The effects of society on the psychosocial functioning of those with a facial difference","authors":"E. Riklin, Margaret S Andover, Rachel A. However, there are contradictory findings as to whether adolescents with CFCs have more social problems than their peers. This article provides a framework for the social context of interpersonal relationships for those with CFCs drawn from relevant theoretical underpinnings. The authors conducted a comprehensive literature review examining social factors that affect the interpersonal functioning of adolescents with CFCs. Over 35 articles were taken from the growing, but limited, research on this topic via PsychInfo and PubMed using specific search terms such as “craniofacial”, “facial dysmorphisms”, “complex facial dysmorphisms”, “interpersonal”, “psychosocial”, “social functioning”, and “adolescents” among others. Research has identified three salient barriers in social interactions: unattractive or inexpressive faces, social stigma, and societal misconceptions. The empirical studies reviewed postulate that having a facial difference does not result in social dysfunction, but rather the pressures and influences of society negatively impact social functioning. Based on the findings from this review, the authors propose a novel psychosocial model that explains the social dysfunction of adolescents with CFCs. Limitations and future interventions are also discussed.","PeriodicalId":44293,"journal":{"name":"Health Psychology Report","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75452198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
