HAIs affect hundreds of millions patients globally. HAIs are among the five leading causes of death worldwide next to cardiovascular diseases, neoplasms, respiratory tract diseases, and infectious diseases. The purpose of this study was to assess the level of knowledge, attitudes and practices of patients on prevention of healthcare associated infections in a healthcare facility in Central Region, Ghana. \u0000Methodology: A cross sectional study design was used in this study. Both convenience and purposive sampling techniques were used in the study to administer the questionnaire to patients who were visiting the health facility for a period of four weeks. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to present data as frequencies and percentages. On the other hand, multivariable regression analysis was employed to examine the relationship between variables in the dataset. Data were presented with tables. Adjusted odds ratios (aORs) at 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to present the results. \u0000Results: The study showed that the overall level of knowledge of respondents on HAIs was high (54%). Most of the patients (61%) also had positive attitudes toward HAIs, and the practices of patients toward HAIs prevention were also good (57%). Civil/public servant had higher odds of having good knowledge on HAIs than those who are self-employed [aOR=2.1, 95% CI=1.43-3.39]. Two times visitors also had higher odds of having good knowledge on HAIs than new patients [aOR=2.37, 95% CI 1.21–4.63]. \u0000Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: Majority of patients had high knowledge on HAIs with positive attitude and good practices toward prevention of HAIs. Health education on HAIs is recommended for all patients visiting healthcare facilities to help prevent such infections among the patients and health care workers.

Asymptomatic malaria in pregnancy (MiP) threatens both the mother, fetus, and neonate via chronic placental malaria which impacts maternal-neonatal exchange. Some studies reported that MiP risk factors vary across locations, however, there are few studies on MiP and maternal anemia in Nigeria. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between asymptomatic placental malaria infection and maternal anemia among parturients in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria. \u0000Method: This study was developed with a quantitative methodology that utilized primary and secondary healthcare data from 483 subjects aged 18–49 years from four healthcare facilities between May and July 2021. The Socio-Ecological Model (SEM) framework was used to explain how parturients can achieve improved pregnancy outcome via the mobilization of multi-levels supports to enhance the compliance of parturients to malaria interventions. The research question and hypothesis were tested with the binomial logistic regression test. \u0000Result: The findings showed a statistically significant association between placental malaria parasitemia by microscopy (PMPM), intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine, use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), and maternal anemia in the study population. Also, the study revealed that positive PMPM, use of CAM, insecticides treated net (ITN) ownership, ITN frequent use, and antenatal care (ANC) attendance were the risk factors of maternal anemia among the study population. \u0000Conclusion: The findings of this study could inform malaria control policymaking in Asaba and Delta State on tracking and treating asymptomatic placenta malaria among underserved parturient accessing antenatal services.

This NCD has adverse effects on the social well-being of patients, their households, and the whole society. The overall objective of this study was to determine the effects of health care system responsiveness on diabetes management among the patients seeking care at St. Mary’s Mission Hospital in Nairobi. \u0000Methodology: This study drew on descriptive study design, involving quantitative and qualitative methods, particularly closed and open questions. The sample size was 269 respondents included in the study through purposive and convenient sampling. These sampling techniques were preferred in this research since data was gathered from the respondents during their visit to the hospital. The researcher collected data through interviewer-administered questionnaires containing both open and closed questions. Qualitative data was grouped, coded, and categorized, picking on cross-cutting issues, then compiled, analysed, and interpreted accordingly. Quantitative data was coded then entered into Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22 for windows. SPSS was used to run frequency distributions and cross-tabulations for analysis and interpretation, and Microsoft Excel was used for graphical presentation. \u0000Findings: The study established unequal distribution of health care facilities for diabetes management across the Counties in Kenya. This leads to a late diabetes diagnosis. The respondents reported that the health care system in Kenya does not offer an affordable quality of care to diabetes patients. This makes some patients skip days or weeks without medication. \u0000Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study recommends the hospitals to form support groups or devise other forums for patients’ education and encouragement on diabetes management. They should also look into the possibilities of having diabetes services in one building. This would ensure rapid diagnostic tests and treatment for diabetes patients.

Unfortunately, some quacks now dabble into performing these complex procedures resulting in several complications. However, it has becoming a serious public health concern in that a traditional bone setter in collaboration with some health workers (quacks who were community health extension workers) engaged in performing an open reduction and internal fixation for a femoral fracture in our index patient with very severe complications. \u0000Methodology: We present this case of open reduction and internal fixation by traditional bone setters and quacks to illustrate the extent of malpractices by traditional bone setters aided by quacks who have either been assisting Orthopaedic surgeons in the theatre or have been watching these procedures as they are frequently been carried out in the operating room. \u0000Results: This index patient, a university undergraduate presented via our outpatient clinic having been mismanaged by a traditional bone setter in collaboration with a Community health extension work. An informed consent was duly taken from the patient concerning the reporting of the case and he was fully clerked, investigated and managed until he left against medical advised due to financial constraints. \u0000Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: We strongly recommend legislation and enforcement of laws that restrict traditional bone setters to limit their practices within their capacities under supervision if they must be allowed for any reason to practice management of simple fractures. The Community Health Extension Workers(CHEW) are to be under strict regulation by the Medical councils to prevent this unwholesome practices.

The study employed descriptive statistics and adopted the Likert scale to assess the child feeding practices of mothers, the level of nutritional knowledge of the mothers and the nutritional status of children under five years. \u0000Findings: The findings revealed that the acceptable practices for child feeding were giving colostrum, prelacteal feeding, late introduction of optimal complementary foods, initiation of solid and semi-solid foods, late initiation of breast feeding and continuing to breastfeed for two years. The study also discovered that as common practice, mothers initiated exclusive breastfeeding as soon as the baby was born, rarely gave water to children under the age of six months and introduced complementary food once the baby developed teeth. At a 5% level of probability, the correlation analysis discovered a strong positive (r = 0.2034) correlation between education and nutritional status of mothers in the study which calls for promotion of maternal literacy and policy intervention to young mothers, particularly on child nutrition improvement. \u0000Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: In addition, the health and community services sectors can promote the use of community-based food and utilization forms for ease of acceptability among mothers. This study ascertained the effect of menstruation on oculovisual status with emphasis on tear production among young female undergraduates of Madonna University, Elele Campus Rivers State Nigeria. \u0000Methodology: The study involved 103 female undergraduates with fairly regular menstrual cycle selected through convenience sampling technique. Their age ranged from 16-30 years with a mean age of 20.82 ± 3.205 years and a median age of 20 years. A well-structured interviewer administered questionnaire was used to elicit oculovisual symptoms associated with the menstrual cycle. Schirmer’s test strip was used to measure tear volume at pre-determined intervals of the menstrual flow period. External and internal eye examinations were also carried out using the Pen torch and ophthalmoscope respectively. Data collected were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21 and results were expressed using tables and correlation of variables expressed using Dunnett’s multiple comparison test. \u0000Findings: There was a significant increase (p ˂ 0.05) in tear production during the first two days of the flow and a slight decrease during the last two days. Comparison of the right and left eyes showed no statistically significant (p ˃ 0.05) difference. Variation in tear production associated with menstruation with respect to age showed statistically significant (p ˂ 0.05) differences for all age groups except for the right eye of subjects within age group 26–30 years. While 52.4% (n=54 ) of the ladies have no oculovisual complaint, the most common oculovisual complaint was headache 42.7% (n = 44) followed by blurry vision 2.91 % (n = 3) and excessive tearing 1.94% (n = 2). \u0000Contribution to Knowledge: The study revealed that physiological changes likely resulting from hormonal variation during the menstrual flow influences tear volume and may cause visual discomfort among women within the reproductive age and recommended the need for tear volume assessment and detailed case history prior to management of complaints associated with dry eye and dispensing of contact lenses for pre and post-menopausal women.

The globe has become a cohesive economic community with interdependence being fuelled by rising economies and the need to exchange technical know-how, goods and services. Globalization has turned the world into one unit with diversified limbs that work in tandem with each other, for instance the lesser the lesser developed countries need raw material to sustain their industries. Now because of the unforeseen emergence of COVID-19 pandemic, social, political and economic modes of interaction have been obstructed normally to curb the spread of the virus which has claimed lives in the hundreds of thousands to millions. This in turn has hindered in some cases brought to a halt certain areas of the economy both internationally and nationally. Economic relations have been stunned by the introduction of COVID-19 measures like travel bans, limiting interactions between individuals and groups and limited time of operations for essential services. A desktop review analysis was used as the research methodology. Data collection methods that were used included observations, focus group discussions and interviews. The targeted population included international, statutory and non-statutory organizations in Zimbabwe. Findings from the study concluded that closure of borders during the COVID-19 pandemic affected imports and exports of trade, COVID-19 led to the loss of labour though massive deaths and quarantine measures and the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on oil dependent counties was severe.` Recommendations from the research affirm that governments and regional organisations should reunite in the global context so as to face pandemics, policy makers should implement effective policies which address economic relations between countries and countries should better prepare for such threats like COVID-19 to economic relations and trade through enhancing technologies.

Nurses are accountable for the administration of high alert medication; inappropriate administration can show a substantial clinical result and at times can be deadly for the patients. High Alert Medication is commonly used in the emergency room, intensive care unit, pediatric ward and medical ward. Because high alert medication is used in emergency situations, they bear a heightened risk of causing patient harm when used incorrectly. Some high alert medication has a narrow therapeutic index e.g., warfarin, when used improperly, rapidly causes the undesirable side effect of bleeding. Further, well-known chemotherapeutic agents, such as vincristine, require special handling, and should be administered according to the manufacturer’s recommendation. Current investigation targeted to evaluate the level of knowledge of high alert medication among nurses in tertiary care hospital. Methodology: A quantitative, descriptive cross-sectional study design was used to explore the level of knowledge and regulations of high alert medication and obstacles faced by nurses during the administration of high alert medication in tertiary care hospital.
