This study determined the impact, hardness and physical properties of polypropylene reinforced Doum palm shell particles composite; the effect of particles loading and particle size on the impact, hardness, density and water absorption properties of the composite were studied. The composites were prepared by compounding polypropylene and Doum palm shell particles using compression moulding method. The particles loading in the matrix (polypropylene) were varied from 0 - 40 wt. % at 5 wt. % intervals, after which the composites were characterized. SEM analysis was also conducted on the composites. The results showed that the addition of Doum palm shell particles stiffened the flexibility of the polymer and improved its ability to absorb and dissipate energy. Composite of 150 µm has the maximum impact strength of 4.1 kJ/m 2 at 35 wt. % particles loading and 3.9 kJ/m 2 at 30 wt. % particles loading for 300 µm. The hardness of the composite was improved with increase in particle loading of the composites. The hardness increases from 6.53 HRF to 9.1HRF at 35 wt. % for 150 µm particle size and 8.6 HRF for 300 µm. Density and water uptake of the composite increases with increase in particles loading and size in the composites.  The SEM images of the composites reveal a good interfacial bonding between Doum palm shell particles and the matrix. These account for the good impact and hardness properties of the composites obtained. Illiterate and semiliterate Nigerians, representing about 40.33%, do not perceive the ATMs as useful or easy-to-use. The purpose of this case study was to identify strategies used by software developers of banking ATM systems in Nigeria to create easy-to-use banking ATM system interfaces in Nigeria. The technology acceptance model was adopted as the conceptual framework. One organization in Enugu, Nigeria was used for this study’s population. Data were collected through semi-structured, in-depth face-to-face interviews with nine banking ATM system interface developers and the analysis of 11 documents. Findings from the participants were validated through member checking. One major theme that emerged from data analysis was value of pictorial images and voice prompts in interface design, that encompass the use of: (a) pictorial images, and enhanced voice prompts with short transaction cycle, (b) voice feedback in users’ own language, (c) text-free user interface and extensive use of hand-drawn, and (d) graphics /imagery and voice as inputs. Strategies illustrated by the findings from this study may serve as a basis for positive economic development and social change in this area and may advance the use of other technology outlets that require easy-to-use system interfaces. Students in tertiary institutions are noted to be among the highest users of mobile devices and since m-learning enables mobility and mobile learning, allowing teaching and learning to extend to spaces beyond the traditional classroom, the researchers conducted an empirical study on the possible implementation of m-learning in Takoradi Technical University. The researchers used the variables of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM)-perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitude towards use and behavioural intention to use as the bases for modelling the questionnaire and it was found out that almost all (99.3%) of the students are aware of m-learning but about only a third (28.6%) uses the mobile devices for m-learning while 37.1% of the respondents use their mobile devices for social media. The researchers therefore concluded it is highly possible to implement m-learning in Takoradi Technical University with little or no training for students if there is enough education. The term welfare suggests the state of well-being, health, happiness, prosperity and the development of human resources .The present study is an attempt to identify the employee welfare programs being conducted in IT industry and analysing the satisfaction level of employees from these activities. The study also aims at finding out how aware employees are regarding the basic welfare activities that they are entitled to avail at workplace. The effective and efficient policies and welfare facilities (statutory and non statutory) make the employee to perform the job better, which leads to effectiveness of the organization and is a factor of employee engagement. As a major outcome of the study, the organisations focus differently on the various Employee Welfare Programs on the basis of the need and priorities of the employees. The research tool used for primary data collection was structured questionnaire and personal interviews. Secondary data was taken through various journals, magazines and company websites. Out of 240 questionnaires rotated 200 were received with proper responses that were analysed and conclusions were drawn. The data was collected through employees and HR managers of various IT and ITes companies of the state of Rajasthan. The study used the banks’ annual data and Central Bank of Nigeria facts book over the period 2001 to 2013. The study applied ordinary least square (OLS) in its analysis to ascertain the impact of E-Banking services and ATM on the performance of commercial banks in Nigeria. The findings of the study indicate that an increase in banks’ profitability performance increases commercial banks’ Return on Equity (ROE). Investments in e banking services and ATMs do not really improve banks’ performance. The study recommends among other things that more emphasis should be on corporate governance and policies that will increase proper and efficient utilization of financial innovation gadgets rather than simply acquiring additional investments. The rapid increase of ICT usage means more costs of doing business, energy consumption, and more environmental challenges. The rapid changing technology reaching Kenya and lack of their understanding has put a lot of pressure on both management and ICT personnel to implement them on a trial and error manner. This has limited the gains meant to be obtained from green ICT despite its technologies availability.  The lack of ICT personnel capacity readiness challenges the reaping of green ICT benefits. The study was informed by the G-readiness model and the enhanced G-readiness model. This study purposed to determine the personnel capacities readiness towards green ICT in Kenya. The study was undertaken using the interpretive, inductive multi-case survey study on a population of four data centres and 116 ICT managerial, technical and user personnel that were purposively sampled. Interview, observation, questionnaire and document analysis methods were used to gather data that was triangulated to increase the reliability and validity. The study established the ICT personnel’s G-readiness was very low on both training and professional development perspectives in Kenya. The study’s findings are useful towards the strategic planning for green ICT implementation, cutting down running costs, improving environmental performance of organisations and contribution to the world of knowledge. The findings provide data for informed ICT personnel and workplace readiness alignment, decision making and ICT curriculum development. The study recommends application of green ICT based on established ICT personnel capacity, inclusion of green ICT training in the curriculum, creation of green ICT responsibilities, provision for a green ICT budget and investment into the development of green ICT personnel. Enterprises that have adopted the use of social media and emails to supplement on their marketing to complete business deals have been attacked or have detected attempted attacks on their infrastructure. Others are still trapped in the social engineering racket. In this paper we identify the dynamic pattern and behavior of social engineering both from within and without the business enterprises. We used analytical method to identify the key factors and parameters that cause social engineering attacks in businesses .Causal loops are used to model the relationships of key parameters that contribute to cyber-attacks through social engineering through the patterns and behavior of social media users. Using stock and flow diagrams, we build a simulation model on Stella platform, analyze it and suggest possible solutions that business enterprises can take to implement measures through policy change.","PeriodicalId":440930,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Engineering and Applications","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122547343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
