The power consumption is a growing problem with FPGAs, which is required to be optimized. In this paper, a method is proposed to estimate the dynamic power consumption of Micro Blaze based processing unit used in embedded designs for FPGA. The proposed method is based on experimental bench of implemented designs where the processing unit is repeated distinctly, and on real power measurements after downloading implemented applications on Virtex-6 FPGA using Xilinx Chip Scope tool. As a result of the considerable dynamic power variation, the dynamic power consumption of the Micro Blaze processing unit without the Floating Point Unit (FPU) is estimated to be 84 mW, and 102 mW with enabling the FPU. The proposed method is verified to be accurate, by comparing its based realistic power measurements with the XPower estimated results.","PeriodicalId":439385,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115007034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are various categories of medical images such as CT scan, X- Ray, Ultrasound, Pathology, MRI, Microscopy, etc [1]. Physicians compare previous and current medical images associated with patients to provide right treatment. Medical Imaging is playing a leading role in modern diagnosis. Efficient image retrieval tools are needed to retrieve the intended images from large growing medical image databases. Such tools must provide more precise retrieval results with less computational complexity. This paper proposed fuzzy connectedness image segmentation for medical image retrieval in Oracle using digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) format. Paper includes the comparison of image retrieval techniques with the proposed fuzzy connectedness image segmentation combined with geometric moment. Paper also gives the implementation details of proposed algorithm in Oracle. For the analysis purpose we have implemented feature extraction methods for color, texture and shape based feature extraction. These methods are compared with the proposed algorithm.","PeriodicalId":439385,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115693087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main goal is to create a single-user data stream query processing system designed for small to medium scale live-data applications and for querying large datasets. The system will have features such as minimal setup and configuration, an easy-to-use yet powerful query language, autonomic buffer management, semi-autonomic data discard policies, and the ability to efficiently process queries for large, structured data files. The second goal is to create a testbed for researching current problems in data stream query processing. Some areas of interest include buffer management techniques, data discard policies, and large dataset query processing. In order to build a system that is both useful and efficient, we have built our query processing engine using a modular design that utilizes various design patterns. This allows us to design and test components independently and analyze them at a granular level.","PeriodicalId":439385,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117094911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Human actions recognition is a challenging task in computer vision. We propose a method to solve this problem using Longest Common Sub-Sequence (LCSS) algorithm and Shape Context (SC). Our contributions in this paper are twofold. First, we show the applicability of the SC as a pairwise shape-similarity measurement for generating a sequence that defines a specific motion. Secondly, we demonstrate the usability of LCSS to classify human actions. Experiments were performed on two action datasets to compare the result to the related methods.","PeriodicalId":439385,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence","volume":"406 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126681440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These types of errors are called asymmetric errors. Asymmetric Varshamov channels could be used to model some physical systems such as multilevel flash memories where there is an exponential behaviour in the real distance between the sent and received symbols and so, the number of errors between these symbols should be measured according to the L1 distance. In this paper, we introduce a Varshamov error model for the general m(≥2)-ary Z-Channel with taking into account the error magnitude, but with concerning to the asymmetric case. Also, we analyze the throughput performance for Type-I selective-repeat hybrid ARQ protocols using t-Error-Correcting/All Asymmetric Error Detecting (t-AEC/AAED) codes over a noticeable Varshamov error model for the general Z-Channel.","PeriodicalId":439385,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126523868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Electronically recorded heart sounds and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) were analyzed to determine whether left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) with heart failure caused each patient's symptoms. In each patient's computerized digital electrocardiogram, measurements of the duration of the QRS complex were made. As expected, the data show that the QRS complex duration itself does not detect LVSD with heart failure. However, for both the recorded heart sounds and the BNP data, the diagnostic sensitivities at 98% specificity for LVSD with heart failure are significantly greater in the subgroups with prolonged QRS complex duration than they are in the entire group of subjects. Evaluating QRS complex duration on the digital electrocardiogram can assess the prior probability of underlying heart disease and improves the performances of diagnostic tests for LVSD with heart failure.","PeriodicalId":439385,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130251083","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Powering a middle-sized data center normally consumed 80,000kW power every year and computer servers consume around 5% of the global power [1]. In order to address the skyrocket energy cost from the high level resource management aspect, we propose an energy efficient job scheduling approach based on a modified version of Weighted Round Robin scheduler that incorporates VMs reuse and live VM migration without compromising the Service Level Agreement (SLA). Enhanced Weighted Round Robin (EWRR) algorithm enhanced scheduler can monitor the running VMs status for possible VM consolidation or Migration. In addition, VM Manager observes the VMs utilization rate to start live migration from the over-utilizing Processing Element (PE) to under-utilized PEs or to the hibernated PEs by sending WOL (Wake-On-LAN) signal to activate them. Moreover, we have integrated our Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS) algorithm in CPU utilization model to specify the required frequency for each task depending on the task complexity and the deadline.","PeriodicalId":439385,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133049850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
