They consider images degraded by linear or zero phase blurring point spread functions (PSF) and additive Gaussian noise. The complexity associated with the combination of two-dimensional signal processing and higher-order statistics is reduced by means of the Radon transform. The projection at each angle is an one-dimensional signal that can be processed by any existing 1-D higher-order statistics-based method. They apply two methods that have proven to attain good one-dimensional signal reconstruction, especially in the presence of noise. After the ideal projections have been estimated, the inverse Radon transform gives the restored image. Simulation results are provided.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115043712","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The power amplifier in such systems is usually operated close to saturation for best efficiency. Current practice is to model the amplifier as a memoryless nonlinearity. Such a model is inadequate if the transponder bandwidth is large. The RF sandwich model is considered. The identification of this model in the case of real signals has been done before. However, in communication systems, the signal is bandpass in nature, and AM/AM as well as AM/PM effects are observed. It is shown that a complex representation of the signal may be used to handle this case and extend the results reported by Brillinger (1977). In addition, by a further characterization of the sandwich model, the authors obtain its Weiner kernels and an extension of Bussgang's theorem.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123511202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The PPT-based algorithm provides suboptimal but computationally efficient estimates of the signal parameters. The performance of the algorithm on single-component signals is discussed in some detail. Preliminary results on estimating multicomponent signals are presently briefly. The PPT appears to be a practical approach to parametric modeling of a class of nonstationary signals.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124846351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When sampling continuous signals it is important to avoid the effect called aliasing. Aliasing causes signals at particular frequencies to appear, erroneously, as signals of different frequencies. Consequently, it is important that before any digital signal processing is performed, the sampled signal is known to be free of aliasing. A published test based on the bispectrum purports to be able to detect aliasing of an already sampled signal. The authors provide counter examples to demonstrate that this previously published test for aliasing is not valid in practice.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130576370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These moments are used for analyzing the asymmetry of the distribution of the data present in a small mask which scans the image. The advantage of the proposed algorithm is its robustness with respect to symmetrically distributed noise. Expressions for the fourth order cumulant of the Poisson impulse process is obtained in terms of the rate of the process and fourth moment of the impulse amplitudes. The linear quadratic detector (LQD) that maximizes the deflection is determined by the higher order moments of the combined noise. It is shown that the LQD consists of a matched filter and a quadratic filter which depends on the weighted signal correlation matrix, ss/sup T/. The performance of the LQD is evaluated by simulation.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129185191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From second order statistics, they identify a set of candidate angles in which both true signal DOA's and spourious noise induced DOA's are present. Then, the signal DOA's are extracted by resorting to higher order statistics and to the nonGaussianity of the sources. Even though the estimates are biased when the noise is not fully correlated, simulation results show that, for SNR values below a certain threshold, this bias does not (significantly) affect the estimation accuracy and that the proposed approach outperforms the straight-forward application of Root-MUSIC to the matrix of fourth order cumulants.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123165808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is demonstrated that the biweight, wave, and median estimators provide consistent cumulant estimates of less variance than the (most common) mean estimator. This solves the problem with regard to symmetric distributions as these robust estimators have been designed for symmetric distribution. When these are applied to asymmetric distributions, biweight and wave estimators appear to give encouraging results. Further work with the particular emphasis on the estimation from asymmetric distributions is under way.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131233886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In three series, targets occurred randomly with global probabilities of 20, 50 and 80%. In the fourth series, targets occurred predictably every fifth tone (20% global probability). EPs were recorded at Fz, Cz, Pz, and left and right temporo-parietal sites. Bicoherence analyses revealed that quadratic phase coupling occurred in the EPs in the classic delta, theta, alpha, and beta EEG frequency bands. Quadratic phase coupling patterns displayed a fronto-central topography and varied directly with global stimulus probability. The data suggest an inverse relationship between P300 amplitude and degree of quadratic phase coupling in the delta band. Quadratic phase coupling patterns were altered in Alzheimer's patients. This is the first demonstration that task-dependent quadratic nonlinearities can be detected in transient evoked potentials.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125030176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods that use additionally the trispectrum have been proposed to decide whether a stationary process is Gaussian. Testing the trispectrum for zero is a complicated task from a computational as well as statistical point of view. Epps (1987) proposed a test for Gaussianity that is based on the differences between components of the sample and Gaussian characteristic functions of a real-valued stationary process. The aim of this paper is to extend Epps' idea to the complex case and to apply the test to the characterisation of backscattered clutter in over-the-horizon radar (OTHR). In OTHR, the complex signal is zero-skewed, and the amount of data available is small. In this case, a test for Gaussianity based on higher-order spectra is inappropriate.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"155 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131419048","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
