By exploiting the asymptotic normality and consistency of kth-order sample cyclic statistics, asymptotically optimal chi /sup 2/ tests are developed to detect presence of cycles in the kth-order cyclic- cumulants and polyspectra, without assuming any specific distribution on the data. Statistical tests are derived in both time- and frequency-domain and yield consistent estimates of possible cycles present in the kth-order cyclic-statistics. Explicit algorithms for k<or=4 are discussed. Existing approaches are rather empirical and deal only with k<or=2 case. Simulation results are presented to confirm the performance of the given tests.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125218969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main nonlinear characteristic of low frequency vibration in soft tissue can be represented as amplitude ratio of 3rd harmonics to the fundamental frequency components defined by the parameter N. The evolution of N as function of amplitude of low frequency vibration at an observing point in the interested region of tissue is observed, and the parameter of nonlinearity of medium is estimated based on the formulation. For measurement of N the bispectral analysis was adopted so that signal to noise ratio is increased in connection with the ultrasonic pulse Doppler method. Experimental results for agar phantom and pig tissue (pork) are shown.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128139926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Forward and reverse sequence running Fourier transforms are first systolically realized. The authors prove that the presence of a doublet and use of fourth-order cumulants is sufficient to accomplish this task. Their approach is based on the interpretation of cumulants for array processing. The cumulant-based algorithm is computationally efficient and more general than constrained covariance-based algorithms. The methods utilize the second- and fourth-order cumulants of outputs of the four FIR systems whose common input is an independent, identically distributed (i.i.d.) non-Gaussian process. The new methods can be extended to the general problem of simultaneous identification of three or more FIR systems with some modifications. In the first step, the driving input (a non-Gaussian pseudo-periodic positive pulse train) to the vocal-tract filter which can be nonminimum-phase is estimated from speech data by a higher-order statistics (HOS) based inverse filter. In the second step, autoregressive moving average (ARMA) parameters of the vocal-tract filter are estimated with the estimated input and speech data by a prediction error system identification method (an input-output system identification method). Finally, some experimental results with real speech data are provided.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121312681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The MSC quantifies the extent to which linear dynamics explain time series covariability. The magnitude-squared bicoherence (MSBC) does the same for bilinear dynamics. Unlike the MSC, which must be computed from two time series, the MSBC can be calculated from a single time series. The average magnitude-squared autobicoherence is computed for a collection of intracardiac electrograms. Results indicate that it has capabilities similar to average MSC in differentiating ventricular tachyarrythmias and discriminating between fibriallatory and nonfibrillatory rhythms. The MSBC might be used in implantable devices for cardiac monitoring and intervention to provide cross-validitory and localized information on cardiac dynamics. Moreover, its quantification of nonlinear dynamics may improve understanding of the intricate electrical organization of the heart.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"258 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116400284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each of them guarantees a closed form solution of the equalization problem and approximates the ideal MSE (mean square error) solution. On the basis of an iterative process the best approximation is selected. Application of this algorithm is not limited to linear equalizers operating at symbol rate. As a possible generalization to include other areas (such as system identification, decision-feedback equalization or fractionally spaced equalization), an extension to fractional tap space equalizers is outlined.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134479010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The acoustic object is modeled as the transfer function between the transmitted linear frequency modulated waveform and the received pressure signal. The objective is to extract the transfer function of the acoustic object. But due to the motion of the acoustic object the extracted transfer function is modified by the Doppler component. For reference, three motionless spherical acoustic objects differing in material composition and elasticity are presented to demonstrate their unique transfer functions. Based on the results of the paper these transfer functions would be modified by the motion of the acoustic spherical objects.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":439030,"journal":{"name":"[1993 Proceedings] IEEE Signal Processing Workshop on Higher-Order Statistics","volume":"227 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132150790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
