This study is qualitative research with an internal analysis approach (content analysis) which attempts to identify how a novelist inculcates messages of da‘wah in writing, specifically da‘wah towards non-Muslims along with messages of any aspect that the novelist wants to convey. The results of this study found that the method used by Habiburrahman El Shirazi is by featuring some non-Muslim characters in the novel such as the family of Mr. Boutros Rafael Girgis, (Maria, Yosoef, Mr. Boutros, Madame Nahed) and Alicia, a journalist, who is from the United States. Through these characters, he included critical topics of discussion in the Islamic point of that are widely misunderstood by some non-Muslims namely the role of women in Islamic teachings, relations between husband and wife, the mixing of non-mahram men and women, to how Islam functions as a guide and provides blessings to the community be it Muslim or non-Muslim. Similarly, through the plot of the story, the author of the novel conveys the Islamic message on the relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims. It is hoped that this study shall open more minds to the fact that da‘wah can be conveyed effectively through writing and works of literature.","PeriodicalId":438658,"journal":{"name":"al-Irsyad: Journal of Islamic and Contemporary Issues","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114674383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This narration could divert the reader’s focus from the teaching contained in the qaṣaṣ al-Qur’ān to a worthless debate. Therefore, this research analyses Abdul Hadi Awang’s interpretation method in interacting with Isrā’īliyyāt’s narration. This research uses a qualitative design by content analysis. The collection of the research’s data was through document analysis on an audio recording of a few quranic chapters interpreted by Abdul Hadi. NVivo software was applied to analyse the data descriptively. The finding of the research shows that the Isrā’īliyyāt narration presented by Abdul Hadi was divided into two categories, namely narration that comes with commentary and narration without commentary. Besides, it was noted that the Isrā’īliyyāt narration found in Abdul Hadi’s interpretation was not his own source of interpretation, in fact, it was presented to attract the audience’s attention in his lecture.","PeriodicalId":438658,"journal":{"name":"al-Irsyad: Journal of Islamic and Contemporary Issues","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124415154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to look further at the opportunities and challenges of Indonesia's halal food and beverage industry. This study uses a descriptive-qualitative method with a phenomenological approach and SWOT analysis techniques. The results showed that Indonesia has excellent food and beverage industry opportunities. For example, Indonesia has high growth in the number of Muslims. The target market in Indonesia is enormous, public awareness of consuming halal food continues to increase, and technology development is rapid. The existence of e-commerce and media continues to grow. In terms of financing, there are many choices of alternative financing platforms and collaboration opportunities with Islamic banking and financial institutions. However, this opportunity has not been fully utilised. Indonesia still has to face various challenges from various sides, such as limited access to international markets, a lack of research on market movements, and the utilisation of information technology to develop this industry is still low. Meanwhile, the form of policies from the central and regional governments are still not aligned, and the bureaucracy for inter-sectoral cooperation is still relatively. By looking at the results of the positioning analysis through the SWOT technique, it is recommended that the Indonesian halal food industry implement a growth strategy through horizontal integration. In this position, the Indonesian halal food industry has an excellent opportunity to grow by developing the halal food and beverage industry.","PeriodicalId":438658,"journal":{"name":"al-Irsyad: Journal of Islamic and Contemporary Issues","volume":"196 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131714193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research adapted methods used by Sidnell in detailing aspects of interpretation choice with regard to discourse type, informants, and data transcription procedures. Recordings of the discourse on Wacana Sinar with the title “Plan for National Young Leaders/Pelan Pemimpin Muda Untuk Negara” is used. The interview involved a moderator and three-panel members from the government and from the opposition parties. In the process of developing interpretation for the discourse particles ‘lah’, knowledge of Arabic Balāghah is adapted to its use in Malay. Based on this knowledge, specifically on knowledge of al-ma’ānī, analysis to build the discourse interpretation of the particle ‘lah’ is focused on the form of spoken speech (khabarī), aspects of the structure of speech (isnād) and aspects of language style (uslūb). The result of this study indicated two interpretations of the discourse particles ‘lah’. One is indicative of the speech structure used (isnād). Apart from that, twelve other interpretations of discourse particles ‘lah’ are based on aspects of language style (uslūb). This cross-language study is expected to increase the knowledge of the elements of Arabic which in turn enables it to re-dignify the Malay language.","PeriodicalId":438658,"journal":{"name":"al-Irsyad: Journal of Islamic and Contemporary Issues","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121099617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This raises the critical question of how the Palestinian state media generates awareness of societal issues, such as the patriotism of citizens as a sense of devotion to one’s country. This study examines whether the state media TV in Palestine contributes to existing patriotism because such a contribution should be explored separately. For this purpose, we first analyse the strategies employed by Palestine TV in delivering news during the period 2020–2021. Second, we examine whether the information framed in the state media effectively promotes Palestinian patriotism to the target audience. To discuss this issue, we use agenda-setting theories through the first level, wherein we describe the power of media to persuade viewers, influence public opinion and construct a hierarchy of being patriotic. The results revealed that the news portrayed on Palestine TV enhanced Palestinian patriotism. This finding implies that media can augment citizens’ views on patriotism. This study provides insights into future investigations on the role of media in the time of crisis particularly related to the Israeli occupation in Palestine and the impacts of its occupation on Palestinians.","PeriodicalId":438658,"journal":{"name":"al-Irsyad: Journal of Islamic and Contemporary Issues","volume":"256 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124458604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Identity crisis due to static thinking and lower resilience does give rise to homeless clusters. Thus, this writing is aiming at identifying factors that are found significant to the rise in homelessness in Kuala Lumpur. This study applies a qualitative method using a thematic approach in data analysis. The data collection method is according to the observation of the homeless and unstructured interviews with 10 informants who are Muslim homeless to construct relevant data. The findings of the study indicate the establishment of the identity concept for those who encounter social problems, especially those who are homeless is less effective. Such shortcomings are attributed to the misconception of religious aspects and Islamic belief (‘aqīdah) that hinder the implementation from the Muslim perspective in terms of basic practice in their life. Psycho-religious support among the same social groups also contributes to no change in their life. Besides, negative thinking and loafing around, which are deemed normal, have a significant connection with the homeless phenomenon. This study has theoretical implications for the development of a better identity for homeless groups. This can help the authorities to carry out more effective initiatives to help the homeless in Malaysia in its entirety.","PeriodicalId":438658,"journal":{"name":"al-Irsyad: Journal of Islamic and Contemporary Issues","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128846863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The researchers of Quranic exegesis are actively discussing this field of knowledge. It is considered a means of ensuring that Islamic scholars remain steadfast in their interpretation of the verses of the Quran based on Maqāṣid al-Shāriʿ (Purpose of order from Allah) rather than on their own lusts or desires. Despite the vibrancy of research on Al-Tafsīr al-Maqāṣidī, the theory's construction requires ongoing research, and there is currently no thematic review of the scope of studies conducted on this subject. Therefore, the purpose of this thematic review is to synthesise the literature on the research scope of al-Tafsīr al-Maqāṣidī using ATLAS.ti 8. This study employs two research methodologies: i) Quantitative methodology, which involves numerical data; and ii) Qualitative methodology, which relies on the thematic analysis related to the study’s scope, al-Tafsīr al-Maqāṣidī. A keyword search followed by an inclusion criteria filter from Google Scholar, Research Gate, and Mendeley databases successfully identified 92 literary works. However, after the inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, only 68 papers were selected for review. The thematic review conducted in this study identified 86 initial codes characterising the research scope of al-Tafsīr al-Maqāṣidī, which were then classified into 12 clusters. These clusters can be classified into two categories: concept clusters and application clusters. The study’s findings discovered that while the effort to construct the theory of al-Tafsīr al-Maqāṣidī has long been undertaken, it has not been considered mature. In terms of application, the application of al-Tafsīr al-Maqāṣidī to contemporary issues is the most popular scope of the study. The findings of this study may benefit future research by addressing research gaps that have not been addressed in order to complete this branch of Quranic exegesis.","PeriodicalId":438658,"journal":{"name":"al-Irsyad: Journal of Islamic and Contemporary Issues","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125874133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Given the immensely positive reaction from the viewers, this animated series has been expanded in production and translated into a number of different languages, including Arabic, through the use of subtitling or dubbing. The dialogue translation process of this animated series employs Malay ‘pantun’ which are particularly difficult to translate into other languages. Many studies related to ‘pantun’ have been conducted, but the majority of them emphasised on the meaning and values found in the ‘pantun’. Therefore, this study was carried out to investigate Malay ‘pantun’ in Upin & Ipin based on ‘pantun’ theories by Mat Piah (1989) and its translation into Arabic based on translation strategies by Vinay & Darbelnet (1958/1995) & Veisbergs (1997). The focus of this study is on the equivalence of Malay-Arabic ‘pantun’ translation, specifically in terms of translation strategies used, word selection, and ‘pantun’ rhyming. This is a descriptive study that takes a qualitative approach. The findings revealed that the majority of Malay ‘pantun’ in this animated series adhere to Mat Piah’s (1989) 'pantun' characteristics, and seven translation strategies were employed: literal translation, transposition, modulation, equivalence, adaptation, addition, and omission. The researchers suggested that more studies on the translation of Malay animation into Arabic should be done from several perspectives, such as songs, cultural aspects, linguistic decency and so on.","PeriodicalId":438658,"journal":{"name":"al-Irsyad: Journal of Islamic and Contemporary Issues","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127447142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since then, we have been battling the virus, which has infected more than 250 million people and killed 4.5 million globally. The pandemic has become the headline of almost every media outlet, local and international news agency. Hence, this article aims to examine the Arabic online news discourse of the event by focusing on the verbal processes strategically utilised in reporting the pandemic in Malaysia. This study's data consists of Modern Standard Arabic online news published by Aswaq (aswaqpress.com) news portal between January and July 2021. Aswaq provides Arabic news and information on Malaysia to the Arab world. Hence, the information provided by the portal is vital in portraying Malaysia to Arab audiences, particularly in framing the way Malaysia deals with the Covid-19. The study employs corpus linguistics analytical tools using corpus software AntConc 3.5.8 (2019). Then, the quantitative result will be analysed using a qualitative approach based on the textual-oriented Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) of Fairclough (1992). It is shown that Aswaq has strategically utilised various verbal processes to report on the word said and articulated around the pandemic. The diversity of verbal processes usage indicates different connotations that hint at different strategic approaches in reporting the news. Hence, it may lead to uncovering the outlet stance of the event.
