Vehicle-to-vehicle V2V communication can be considered an important approach to help the drivers to satisfy requirements like less congestion, accident warning, road exploration, etc. The propagation issues such as path loss, multipath fading, shadowing loss, depolarization loss, and polarization mismatch loss significantly affect the reliability of V2V communication. The goal of this paper is to evaluate the performance of the PHY layer in V2V communication using a modified Spatial Channel Model SCM-MIMO. The simulation results observed that the transmitted signal is affected by a multipath fading channel.","PeriodicalId":436235,"journal":{"name":"2014 7th International Workshop on Communication Technologies for Vehicles (Nets4Cars-Fall)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133643699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially in urban environments, the presence of buildings leads to shadowing properties of the radio signal. In traditional propagation models, these properties are described with stochastic processes. However, for the evaluation of warning use cases where every individual message is important, stochastic models may be too simplistic. Therefore, we implemented efficient ray tracing techniques to identify the specific locations of buildings in the surrounding of the transmitter. Then, we employed adopted models that consider the effects of shadowing, penetration and diffraction to achieve a more accurate result. The comparison of the stochastic and the site-specific models showed that the stochastic models lead to overoptimistic propagation conditions in our scenario. In turn we can rely on a more credible result for the performance of the approaching emergency vehicle warning, when the site-specific models are applied.","PeriodicalId":436235,"journal":{"name":"2014 7th International Workshop on Communication Technologies for Vehicles (Nets4Cars-Fall)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127952505","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS) aims at gather information about the current traffic situation based on wireless communication and provide aggregated information back to the road users in order to improve e.g. efficiency, safety and/or comfort. Simulations show that the proposed speed harmonization application is capable of lowering the CO2 emissions with up to 11%, increasing the average speed with up to 14% and reducing the travel time with up to 16% for all vehicles in the simulation. It is also found that not only the cooperative vehicles benefit from the application but also the non-equipped vehicles. Furthermore, the cooperative traffic simulator has been shown to be a valuable tool for investigating how C-ITS applications may be utilized to develop future traffic system.","PeriodicalId":436235,"journal":{"name":"2014 7th International Workshop on Communication Technologies for Vehicles (Nets4Cars-Fall)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128351989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In aviation industry Avionics Full Duplex Switched Ethernet (AFDX) was standardized to meet specific requirements of regulation authorities for safety critical systems (e.g. determinism and link availability). While safety critical aircraft control systems deploy AFDX there is no common solution for less restrictive cabin networks with realtime demands. Simply employing the as is AFDX technology to the cabin seems over the top due to tremendous hardware costs. This paper introduces the idea of a software enabled AFDX ring, where switching functionality is shifted to end-systems. The topology is based on commercial off-the-shelf hardware, thus, not requiring highly specialized expensive hardware components. We show that achieving deterministic bounds on latency is possible for our proposed ring solution.","PeriodicalId":436235,"journal":{"name":"2014 7th International Workshop on Communication Technologies for Vehicles (Nets4Cars-Fall)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126338651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the communication perspective, urban intersection scenarios can be challenging due to a frequent absence of line-of-sight (LOS) conditions. It is often combined with highly dense network conditions due to high amount of traffic lights, fast route changes and stop-and-go traffic. In this paper, we evaluate the reliability of V2V applications at urban intersections in congested network conditions. We demonstrate that closed intersection topology is the most favorable when compared to half-opened and opened topologies and that the degradation distance requirement is more challenging to fulfill than the reliable communication range requirement.","PeriodicalId":436235,"journal":{"name":"2014 7th International Workshop on Communication Technologies for Vehicles (Nets4Cars-Fall)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126936281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Radiofrequency identification (RFID) technology may increase these systems efficiency. It is required to integrate many different camera-based systems with RFID readers to implement the RFID technology in traffic law enforcement. The distributed application platform controlling all the RFID readers and easing the task of RFID readers integration is presented in this paper. The distributed platform consists of different components allowing to read tags, filter and transform them into the license plates numbers, manage readers from a single administrator console and connect to the system from police cars or control centres. The system allows to use various EPC Class 1 Generation 2 RFID radio modules and can seamlessly interconnect hundreds of RFID-readers. The large-scale experiment project of implementing RFID-based vehicle identification technology running in Kazan city, Russia, is also described.","PeriodicalId":436235,"journal":{"name":"2014 7th International Workshop on Communication Technologies for Vehicles (Nets4Cars-Fall)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115743331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the deployed GSM-R networks were initially used only to provide the railway voice communication. However, as more of these GSM-R networks begin to support the European Train Control System (ETCS) signaling, the capacity of GSM-R turns out to be insufficient. GSM-R cannot fulfill the railway requirements, in terms of the number of simultaneous ETCS connections. This is why, alternative, more efficient communication technologies should be considered by railways, such as 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE). This paper describes how to adapt the reversible multi-chain/channel queuing system to model an LTE cell serving ETCS-equipped trains. It is proposed to use the multiple user chains available in the model to represent varying bitrate in LTE radio access network. Using this model, LTE and GSM-R are compared in terms of capacity on an example at Copenhagen Main Train Station. The purpose of this work is to demonstrate the benefits that railway operators and infrastructure managers can expect from the introduction of LTE, as a telecommunication technology for railway control signaling and additional applications.","PeriodicalId":436235,"journal":{"name":"2014 7th International Workshop on Communication Technologies for Vehicles (Nets4Cars-Fall)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127761272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is beneficial in providing intelligent transportation system as well as new assistant services to drivers. However, the limitation of resources in mobile vehicles is a significant technical challenge in the deployment of new applications. In this paper, we propose a new vehicular cloud architecture used clustering technique to group vehicles and provide resources cooperatively. We make the cluster structure flexible by using the fuzzy logic in the cluster head selection procedure. Also, performance of the proposed architecture is evaluated using extensive simulation and its efficiency is demonstrated through comparison with other existing approaches.","PeriodicalId":436235,"journal":{"name":"2014 7th International Workshop on Communication Technologies for Vehicles (Nets4Cars-Fall)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130818529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main challenge for the roadside deployment is to find a satisfying or best distribution of RSUs on the roads network according to the given conditions in order to meet the requested requirements of the roads operator. Additionally, various factors affect this process such as traffic, infrastructure and topological characteristics of the roads. This paper introduces an Overlap based Greedy Method (OGM) as a basis for RSUs placement and can be applied on urban and rural roads. This method in its current development mainly considers the RSU coverage radius and the overlap rate into the RSUs distribution process. Moreover, a wide range of influencing factors is considered through the prioritization of Sites of Interest (SoIs). The OGM method is developed within the recently started PRONET project and is integrated into its software platform. The tests conducted on selected roads environment in the city of Rostock (Germany) ensure: (1) decrease in number of chosen SoIs for placement compared to the original scanned number of SoIs, and (2) full (continuous) coverage cannot be guaranteed for a roads network using only the available junctions.","PeriodicalId":436235,"journal":{"name":"2014 7th International Workshop on Communication Technologies for Vehicles (Nets4Cars-Fall)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132060517","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
