It discusses how Acehnese musicians and dancers negotiate their creativity and livelihoods in relation to the sociopolitical and religious transformations they have experienced in last 12 years. These transformations have resulted in the recognition of the performing arts as an expression of Acehnese cultural identity, the rise of sanggar, and the impact of changes in the religious climate on women's performing arts. Finally, it presents four strategies performers use to negotiate the changing performance context in Banda Aceh today.Abstract:Di dalam artikel ini, saya melihat perubahan-perubahan dalam seni pertunjukan yang terjadi di Banda Aceh sejak setelah tsunami Aceh (2004–16). Saya membicarakan tentang kreativitas dan kehidupan para pemusik serta para penari di Aceh yang disesuaikan dengan aspek sosial, politik dan agama yang mereka alami selama 12 tahun terakhir. Hasil dari perubahan-perubahan tersebut membuat seni pertunjukan Aceh sebagai identitas budaya Aceh di masa kini. Ini juga tercermin antara lain dengan adanya perkembangan sanggar-sanggar seni di Banda Aceh. Dampak dari perubahan-perubahan tersebut juga bisa dilihat ketika para perempuan yang berkesenian akan selalu menyesuaikan dengan perkembangan agama yang berlaku dalam masyarakat Aceh. Oleh karena itu, saya mendiskusikan empat cara bagaimana para pelatih seni di Banda Aceh menyikapi perubahan-perubahan tersebut dalam konteks seni pertunjukan.","PeriodicalId":43622,"journal":{"name":"ASIAN MUSIC","volume":"50 1","pages":"121 - 90"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2019-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1353/AMU.2019.0016","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45061341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"艺术学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the historical status of the shamisen in Asakusa and the present-day popularity of Tsugaru-jamisen among Japanese youth complicate Fukui's musical place making. These factors create contradictions in how time period, genre categories, and geography conceptually define the restaurant for contemporary visitors. This article proposes to resolve these contradictions by introducing the idea of conceptual blending, demonstrating how Fukui's musical restaurant encompasses both past and present, urban and rural, remote and local, Japanese and global.","PeriodicalId":43622,"journal":{"name":"ASIAN MUSIC","volume":"50 1","pages":"58 - 89"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2019-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1353/AMU.2019.0015","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48435388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"艺术学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The singing, plus various forms of attention and material offerings, temporarily raise performers' moral status over that of audience members, inspiring reciprocal obligations that are neutralized by the giving of cash. By understanding the money as gifts rather than as part of transactions, the article explores the interpersonal dimensions of economic dealings around the music. Reciprocal obligations, rather than notions of collective belonging, are the main focal point for social meaning here.","PeriodicalId":43622,"journal":{"name":"ASIAN MUSIC","volume":"50 1","pages":"3 - 32"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2019-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1353/AMU.2019.0013","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47049704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"艺术学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
