There are three main reasons of insufficient use of e-resources: majority of users remain to be unaware of availability of e-collections in their institutions, lack of searching skills among end-users, low level of competency among librarians on e-resources and e-platforms. The lack of support and training of end-users results in poor usage of research oriented e-resources, especially foreign ones. Recommendations for librarians on promotion of e-resources include redesign of library website as main entry-point to e-collections, correct URLs to publisher platforms and their correct description, information on access options, availability of end-user emails for notification purposes — these and many other tips are important for efficient usage of acquired e-resources for research and educational purposes.","PeriodicalId":434674,"journal":{"name":"Scholarly Research and Information","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116948715","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Entry into science should occur from the first year of university. One of the main barriers is the inability to work with scientific information. In order to improve the competitiveness of students in the scientific environment, a study of the level of information culture of students enrolled in the first year of undergraduate studies was conducted.Materials and methods. The main research method is a selective Internet questionnaire survey. The main method of information analysis is the method of constructing typologies, the essence of which is to find such empirical indicators that would sufficiently adequately reflect the levels of competitiveness in research activities and the corresponding types of applicants to a technical university in the digital era.Results. During the survey, it was revealed that the majority of respondents do not have an understanding of the basics of design as a method of work, there are no skills in building an experiment, using methods of analysis and synthesis, there is no understanding of the importance of publishing the results of their work. More than 90 % of respondents have an average level of information culture with good skills in owning applied office programs.Discussion and conclusions. It was concluded that in order to achieve competitiveness in the scientific environment of students, it is necessary to teach information culture almost from scratch.","PeriodicalId":434674,"journal":{"name":"Scholarly Research and Information","volume":"45 1-2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114024548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It’s gradual creating and development based on the creation of hybrid scientific library, using both the local (located directly in the library) traditional collection, and collections of electronic full-text media available remotely to the library patron and being a virtual part of the whole library collection.The article deals with the use of scientific journals (mainly foreign) as the most important part of the scientific resources required by Russian scientists’ access. The analysis is based on the Library for Natural Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences (one of the leading scientific libraries in Russia) example.The mentioned process started in the last centuries 1990s, and, as shown in the article, passes through several stages. From the very beginning, the process required for the libraries to unite into associations for the electronic resources joint use. These associations took, in accordance with international experience, the form of library consortia. At the first stage, consortia were created to bring together several libraries to access the electronic resources of a single foreign library.This system turned out to be viable, but rather cumbersome for a library (for effective work a library has to be a member of several consortia, which turned out to be non-technological). At the next stage, a single consortium was created with the support of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research — Scientific Electronic Library RFBR. Further development required the direct state on the one of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science projects basis support. This process went through several development stages (using as a project operator consortium NEICON, the RNPLS&T and again RFBR — at another level of organization and funding).As a result, by 2020 the providing mainly information support for the work of the main mass of scientific and educational institutions in the specified field system was created and debugged on the practical level. By the early 2020s, the work had entered a more or less stable working mode.The issues requiring an urgent solution are the lack of an insurance copy of resources purchased abroad, which creates an uncertain situation in the event of the relationship with the resource owner termination, and the absence, in full, of a similar access to Russian scientific resources system, if their publication rights, in part, have been transferred to foreign publishers.","PeriodicalId":434674,"journal":{"name":"Scholarly Research and Information","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127080364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach is based on an assessment of the entire audience interested in publications in scientific journals, an assumption that each author personally pursues a research and writes a paper for the scientific journal, as well as an account for the co-authorship indicator, i.e. the involvement of colleagues into the research performed by the author. The research employs data by Rosstat, Higher School of Economics and Scientific Electronic Library to reveal all the authors interested in publication. This indicator is then multiplied by a value of co-authorship. The number of papers the authors publish per year is recommended to be taken as a random value, to be used later as a basis for building a probabilistic distribution of the ultimate number of papers among all authors. The distribution is built by the Monte Carlo method, and the analysis employs the apparatus of the probability theory and linear algebra. The obtained data and data from the Scientific electronic library have been exposed to comparative analysis. The work revealed that for the annual amount of more than one article the distribution of the number of papers received from the Russian audience can be approximated by a normal distribution, with all its parameters depending on maximum annual number of papers, scope of audience and co-authorship indicator. This gives the ultimate number of papers for any section (group of disciplines or a particular discipline). The article considers the examples of obtaining the distribution for the ultimate number of papers. The results can be used for correcting the research policy of an organization or an institute of higher education in the directions of activity being researched, and can serve as a guide to the necessary number of papers in various fields of science.","PeriodicalId":434674,"journal":{"name":"Scholarly Research and Information","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121778978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Educational resources for medical students are not limited to traditional resources available in the university electronic environment of (subscribed or created at the university). Studies of the usage statistics of the university information-educational environment cannot give a reliable answer to the question of what resources students use. The study analyzes the survey data on the use of publicly available and commercial educational services along with the university resources. In result, we determine how the structure of the information and educational environment of the university meets the identified needs of students.Methods. In April 2021, we conducted an online survey of 1,765 students from 10 medical universities. Respondents were proposed to indicate the frequency with which they use different educational resources. We compare the 2021 results with the data of the 2020 survey using the methods of statistical analysis. Comparison of the use of the same type of university resources, publicly available and purchased are performed. The risks of the use of information resources of the university are assessed. Relationships between the use of different resources have been determined. Clusters of respondents demonstrating similar informational behavior are identified.Results. No significant changes in the frequency of use of information resources have been registered since 2020. Students prefer to use free resources regardless of their source. Frequent viewing of teachers’ online lectures reduces interest in face-to-face lectures, and frequent use of paid video resources or mobile applications reduces interest in the university resources as a whole. Close links have been found between the use of different commercial resources. 42.3 % of students prefer the university-created resources, whereas 38.6 % of students are focused at the publicly available resources and 19.1 % prefer technological resources from any source.Conclusion. The information resources of the university compete for the attention of students with a huge number of third-party resources. High-quality video content can significantly increase the use of university resources. An expert assessment of popular medical resources and an increase in students’ awareness of the quality of these resources is needed.","PeriodicalId":434674,"journal":{"name":"Scholarly Research and Information","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123314776","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
