The study refers to several recent journals in the form of systematic analysis as studies supporting the issues to be debated in this concept paper. The findings show that teachers do not have sufficient knowledge and skills in screening of pupil of who are at risk of disabilities. This leads to an unhealthy attitude in conducting screening method. The findings also identify the types of screening performed by teachers through the checklist and test adapted from abroad. Ministry of Education (MOE) may take approaches and initiatives to provide courses for teachers on speech and occupational in performing screening. Furthermore, MOE can also place therapist and interventionist officials in schools as one of the steps to realize the initial screening of disability based in the Zero Reject Policy. Positive acceptance from parents affects teachers in implementing the screening of pupil of who are at risk of disabilities. At the same time, reducing the risk of disability and increasing the preschooler’s readiness going to school later.","PeriodicalId":434512,"journal":{"name":"Proceeding of International Conference on Special Education in South East Asia Region","volume":"296 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126021183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to analyze the learning trajectory of mentally retarded students based on constructivism theory. Through a qualitative approach with the natural observation method. The instruments used in this study were observation sheets, interviews, and documentation. From the three results, the data will be validated through a technical triangulation process to obtain research findings. This study involved three students from the 6th grade with mental retardation who obtained some learning trajectories in the multiplication operation. The first learning trajectory is carried out through the process of repeated addition according to the number being multiplied, even though conceptually it is incorrect. Second, use the stake (turus system) to write down the unit place, and last, use the stake (turus system) to write down the value of the whole number. In constructivism, mentally retarded students can build their own ideas to solve multiplication operations according to their own learning trajectories. The results of this study can be implicated in the learning process and as a hypothetical learning trajectory for mentally retarded students.","PeriodicalId":434512,"journal":{"name":"Proceeding of International Conference on Special Education in South East Asia Region","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126176306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Slow learners generally fail to understand basic lessons and concepts in academics, such as reading, writing, mathematics and language. This is because the above processes require a fairly complicated cognition process. So in overcoming obstacles to learning to read at the beginning of slow learners, a reading technique is needed that suits the needs of children. One of the reading techniques that can be used is the Montessori technique which is based on the Montessori method.The objectives of this study are as follows: (1) Knowing the stages of the process of developing an initial reading program for slow learners with Montessori techniques (2) Knowing the feasibility of developing an initial reading program for slow learners with Montessori techniques. The research method used in this study is a mixed research method. The final product of this study resulted in a beginning reading learning program with Montessori techniques consisting of products: (1) initial reading identification and assessment format (2) Learning program plan (3) Guidebook for teachers (4) Student worksheets (5) Module on Montessori reading techniques that have been modified for slow learner children. Based on research findings, data analysis and theoretical discussion, it can be concluded that the application of the beginning reading program in slow learners with Montessori techniques is feasible because it suits the needs of children and is able to improve initial reading skills. This program also helps teachers to know the stages of making individual learning programs for students with special needs.","PeriodicalId":434512,"journal":{"name":"Proceeding of International Conference on Special Education in South East Asia Region","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123935124","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
