In Galilean approximation all the processes occurring inside these materials are governed by two groups of laws: Maxwell equations and the balance equations. The entropy production is analyzed following the classical thermodynamic procedures and the constitutive equations in the linear anisotropic and isotropic case are derived. The obtained results have applications in several fields of applied sciences, like medicine, biology, physics, chemistry and others.","PeriodicalId":43431,"journal":{"name":"Atti Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti-Classe di Scienze Fisiche Matematiche e Naturali","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45479216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, we also show the equivalence between the Dedekind completeness property on totally ordered fields and some meaningful well–known notions present in the literature, such as the Cauchy completeness on totally ordered Archimedean fields. This characterization result allows us to correctly encode the Dedekind completeness for totally ordered fields in the general abstract setting of metric spaces. We believe that the essential parts of the paper can be easily accessed by anyone with some experience in abstract mathematical thinking. The paper completes the lecture given by the second author during the International Workshop on New Horizons in Teaching Science in Messina on June 2018.","PeriodicalId":43431,"journal":{"name":"Atti Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti-Classe di Scienze Fisiche Matematiche e Naturali","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45813965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research was initially started to investigate the real correlation between Radon  emission from the Earth and the occurrence of strong earthquakes by using measurements  of hourly Radon flow variation. During quiet seismogenic conditions, we observe an  unvarying level of Radon emission in the air. Before a strong earthquake, substantial  variations of Radon ( 222 Rn) concentration have been observed in the air, probably because  of the increase of thermodynamic energy inside the Earth. The physical processes affecting  earthquakes are still not fully understood; therefore, we are interested in investigating a  wide variety of signals observed before an earthquake, ranging from chemical, electric, and  magnetic variations. The goal is to be able to estimate the earthquake magnitude, timing also  location in advance with a good approximation. The experimental observation and research  studies were carried out by G. Giuliani Permanent Foundation since 2002 in Abruzzo. The  innovative methodology of observations with Gamma detectors allowed us to reveal a close  correlation between the different physical phenomena during the preparation phase of strong  earthquakes. We master the methodology of measuring the hourly flow of 222 Rn gas decay,  which provides a good correlation with the occurrence of strong earthquakes. To advance  the reliability of our assessment, we added more parameters to our observations, such as  magnetic and RF. The joint analysis advances our understanding of the processes underlying  the earthquake occurrence. The experimental observation of Radon has been tested for  more than a decade in the Abruzzo region. The initial results provided the baseline of  reliable correlation between radon variations and earthquakes that could be used as an alert  mechanism for the forthcoming seismic events. The multiparametric approach of detecting  pre-earthquakes signals provided the robustness in detecting the earthquake preparation  phase. There are no doubts that by expanding the network of gamma sensors, we achieve  much better signal detection, which is critical for the better spatial correlation of Radon  variations with the earthquake processes.","PeriodicalId":43431,"journal":{"name":"Atti Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti-Classe di Scienze Fisiche Matematiche e Naturali","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45862937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In young student it is therefore hard to fully understand the relative proportions  among different objects even belonging to the same level of complexity. Resizing to humanrelated  distances is an effective way to understand the relative distances in astronomic scales  or the amount of information contained in a single cell. In general, the use of imagination  is essential in educational research as well as the use of different skills in interdisciplinary  works. Some appealing example will be given and the result of a pilot learning by doing  teaching pathway involving hundreds of young students will be presented. Clues will give  indications for future directions in educational research.","PeriodicalId":43431,"journal":{"name":"Atti Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti-Classe di Scienze Fisiche Matematiche e Naturali","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49652009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the presence of more and more sophisticated and precise environmental sensors and to the development of more and more user-friendly APPs able to read and analyse data, the interest in the educational context of smartphones, the number of proposals and their quality have rapidly increased in the last years. Our research group in physics education promoted various activities in which students, in the role of “active researchers”, tested some of the available APPs and used them to perform qualitative and quantitative experiments with the aim to improve learning. Here we suggest some significant experimental activity that our partners-student performed with his/her smartphone and low-cost equipment on sound, acceleration, optics and spectroscopy.","PeriodicalId":43431,"journal":{"name":"Atti Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti-Classe di Scienze Fisiche Matematiche e Naturali","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48650846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This contribution is based on previous papers, where a set of 26 species of horticultural plants, used in Mediterranean diet, was examined from the statistical point of view, obtaining easily accessible and useful results. In particular the recorded content of vitamin C and crude fibre of the considered plants, based on literature data, have been analyzed as two sample variables. Graphic representations and statistical studies are given for these 2 variables. From the average values found of crude fibre and vitamin C contents, ingested by the human organism through the consumption of the considered fruits and vegetables, it can be seen that it is necessary to follow a diet rich in vitamin C and crude fibre to prevent disease, in accordance with medical standards and directives coming from several national and international nutrition organizations, and thus to promote the Mediterranean diet, that represents the initial steps to longevity and good health.","PeriodicalId":43431,"journal":{"name":"Atti Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti-Classe di Scienze Fisiche Matematiche e Naturali","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46049916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
