In high school English teaching, questioning is an important means to develop students’ reading comprehension ability. However, the traditional way of teachers’ questioning is usually aimed at expressing the answers, neglecting the cultivation of thinking quality. The purpose of this paper is to explore the current situation and reasons of questioning in high school, and to explore the specific questioning strategies that can effectively train students’ thinking quality in high school English classes.","PeriodicalId":433052,"journal":{"name":"Education, Society and Human Studies","volume":" 46","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139621536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In English, students must construct a comprehensive, detailed and systematic knowledge structure when reading and master language under the premise of deep thinking, and then absorb and internalize it through dialectical thinking. Practice shows that the combination of deep learning and senior high school English reading teaching conforms to the law of English teaching development, and is also an effective strategy to optimize and upgrade English reading teaching. Therefore, on the basis of summarizing the connotation and characteristics of deep learning, the author put forward targeted suggestions according to the existing problems.","PeriodicalId":433052,"journal":{"name":"Education, Society and Human Studies","volume":"8 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139529713","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study analyzed the use of pause and lengthening for turn organization in Chinese EFL learners’ English conversations. The results show the excessive dependence on the pause to show the turn yielding intentions in Chinese learners’ conversations, and Chinese learners probably cannot distinguish the uses of final lengthening within turns and the lengthening before turn changes.","PeriodicalId":433052,"journal":{"name":"Education, Society and Human Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139260017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The question whether it is possible at all certainly needs more research. However, we shall hereby suggest some “signs”, hints, or even explicit utterances that might help teachers to notice students who need extra-supervision, enrichment activities or an accelerated track. These sayings, or doings, are usually either ignored by teachers or quite often wrongly interpreted. Had teacher known how to “read” these signs it would have helped them to know if a certain student needs extra-challenging, different, higher-level school curriculum, more creative homework or self-learning assignments. Here are the 5 main points a teacher should consider when having to decide whether their student is gifted or talented. 1. Boredom: looking bored or complaining about being bored 2. Finishing all tasks before everybody else 3. Correcting the teacher or/and other students/”Takes over” class conversation 4. Does not do homework or prepares for exams but gets high grades; 5. In California, air pollution attracts significant attention due to increased pollution from fossil fuel burning, industry, transportation, and the state’s drought record and fire-proneness. Data used in this analysis was obtained from the CalEnviroScreen pollution monitoring tool. There is significant variation in air pollution across counties and racial groups. Hispanic populations, followed by Caucasians, predominantly occupy areas with the highest pollution levels above 40%. Most counties had low average scores in population parameters that determine population health. Pollution burden predicted asthma and CVD prevalence but not low-birth-weight babies. Asthma was closely associated with traffic density, PM2.5, cleanup sites, and ozone levels; low-birth-weight babies were associated with traffic density and release of toxic substances; and CVD was associated with PM2.5, toxic release, and cleanup sites. Low HPI scores (<40%) were associated with incidences of asthma and CVD but not low-birth-weight babies. The increased population health compromises in California caused by the effects of air pollution call for a paradigm shift in the way population health is evaluated and effects of air pollution mitigated.","PeriodicalId":433052,"journal":{"name":"Education, Society and Human Studies","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123621430","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this contribution the goal is to pave the path in the hope that it will promote dialogue. To achieve this goal, we take three steps. We will start with describing science and religion as social practices characterized by epistemic, practical, collective and individual goals. The next step is some analysis of what we mean by commitment. Based on what we have found we will be able to describe what we mean by a stance, followed by what in our view characterizes mostly the stance “psychiatry and religion”. Holism, values, a certain conception of the professional role, and inclusiveness are the essential issues.","PeriodicalId":433052,"journal":{"name":"Education, Society and Human Studies","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129276914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is an innate disorder and combines several previously used definitions of mental syndromes and diseases into one diagnostic unit. Its signs can be noticed in infancy or early childhood, at two years old, or a little later. For instance, the child practices non-verbal communication speaks very little, and repeatedly makes the same movement with his fingers, arms, or legs. Such a person may have intact intelligence and the ability to live in society, but ASD is often associated with cognitive impairments of varying severity. A single cause of the appearance of ASD has not yet been found. Scientists identify only factors that can affect the likelihood of its occurrence, for instance, mutations, problems with pregnancy, or difficult ecological situations.","PeriodicalId":433052,"journal":{"name":"Education, Society and Human Studies","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134379506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a property that a text must have in order to be regarded as a good text. In this paper, an attempt is made to arrive at the aspects of textuality utilized in online newspaper articles. More precisely, the paper endeavors to answer the following question: what are the most prevalent aspects of textuality utilized in this kind of discourse? As such, this paper aims at identifying the most common aspects of textuality exploited in online newspaper articles. Accordingly, it is hypothesized that cohesion, coherence, and informativity are the most prevalent aspects of textuality utilized in online newspaper articles. In order to achieve the aims of this paper and test its hypothesis, De Beaugrande and Dressler’s (1981) model of textuality is utilized for the analysis of the data under scrutiny. The analysis is executed on six articles retrieved from online British newspapers, namely, The Independent, The Telegraph, The Guardian, and Express. Findings of the analysis validate the above mentioned hypothesis.","PeriodicalId":433052,"journal":{"name":"Education, Society and Human Studies","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131760077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article investigated the Bible, in-laws and the family in Africa, as well as how Scriptures address in-laws and families in connection to African culture. The research is supported by existing literature by researchers in the research field. It examines relevant Bible material, investigates how the Bible treats the problematic topic of in-laws and situates it in the African setting. The focus of the research is to determine if the Bible’s stance on in-laws conforms to family structure in the African environment by analysing the interaction between them. It establishes that the Bible instructs us to respect and care for our in-laws. The couples consequently must pursue the well-being of their in-laws, as there is a connection between the Bible, in-laws and the family in Africa.","PeriodicalId":433052,"journal":{"name":"Education, Society and Human Studies","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114226232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I think the great challenge of pedagogy (from theoretical and practical aspect aspect): how can the ability and competence of independent thinking be realised during educational work? How does the schooling system facilitate the development of the autonomy of pupils, students and teachers?
