This study aimed to determine the factors associated with not being screened for T2DM according to the 2020 Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES-2020).</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>Secondary, cross-sectional, analytical study using the ENDES-2020 data.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The variables that showed a statistically significant association for T2DM screening were the following: male sex (PR=1.06, 95% CI: 1.02-1.10; p<0.001), ages between 30 and 59 years (0.92, 95% CI: 0.89-0.95; p<0.001) and 60 years and older (PR=0.72, 95% CI: 0.65-0.79; p<0.001), primary education (PR=0.94, 95% CI: 0.92-0.99; p<0.020), secondary education (PR=0.93, 95% CI: 0.88-0.97; p=0.008) higher education (PR=0.86, 95% CI: 0.85-0.94; p<0.001), poor (PR=0.96, 95% CI: 0.92-0.99; p=0.016), middle income (PR=0.93, 95% CI: 0.88-0.96; p=0.001), rich (PR=0.89, 95% CI: 0.84-0.94; p<0.001), very rich (PR=0.81, 95% CI: 0.75-0.86; p<0.001), and hypertension (PR=0.91, 95% CI: 0.867-0.969; p=0.002).</p><p><strong>Discussion: </strong>Being male was the only factor associated with not being screened for T2DM, whereas belonging to an older age group, having arterial hypertension, and having higher education and socioeconomic levels increased the possibility of being screened.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>It is essential to strengthening screening strategies at the primary level of care by implementing preventive measures.</p>","PeriodicalId":43234,"journal":{"name":"Revista Cuidarte","volume":" ","pages":"e17"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11559276/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46219039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"[Patient Safety Culture in the Emergency Medical Service: cross-sectional studyCultura de Seguridad del Paciente en el Servicio de Emergencias Médicas: estudio transversal].","authors":"Virgilio Malundo-Joáo, Bruna Moreno-Dias, Marília Pilotto-de-Oliveira, Ana Maria Laus, Andrea Bernardes, Carmen Silvia-Gabriel","doi":"10.15649/cuidarte.2531","DOIUrl":"10.15649/cuidarte.2531","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Introduction: </strong>Problems related to patient safety in the pre-hospital context are little explored, but essential, given the vulnerability to incidents.</p><p><strong>Objective: </strong>To analyze the patient safety climate from the perspective of the multidisciplinary team that works in Mobile Pre-Hospital Care (PHC).</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>Cross-sectional study, conducted in a Mobile Pre-Hospital Care. Data collection was performed through Safety attitudes Questionnaire (SAQ), with convenience sampling and participation rate of 94.3% of eligible professionals. Descriptive statistics and the Mann- Whitney test were used for data analysis.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Among the 151 participating professionals, males predominated (54.6%), nursing assistants and technicians (42.0%), working for 10 or more years (61.0%), in adult and pediatric care (93.4%). The SAQ Total had a median of 70, indicating a negative perception of the participants about patient safety in the APH. The domains with a negative perception were: Safety Climate, Stress Recognition, Management Perception and Working Conditions; while the Teamwork Climate and Job Satisfaction domains showed a positive perception. Results: the final sample consisted of 14 articles, categorized into three aspects of management, namely: medications, comorbidities, and healthy practices. However, little is known about this association among women.</p><p><strong>Objective: </strong>To evaluate perceived stress in women with Metabolic Syndrome (MS).</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>Cross-sectional study, based on a non-randomized clinical trial, with patients from a public health center (RBR-43K52N). The outcome variable was MS, using the NCEP/ATPIII criteria. Sociodemographic, anthropometric, biochemical, hemodynamic data and PSS application were collected.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The sample consisted of 75 women affected by MetS (47.69± 8.15 years old; 155.65±0.07 cm; 82.43±17.79 kg; BMI of 33.96±6 ,42). High WHR values were found among stressed and non-stressed women. The average PSS score was 27.73±9.17. In the groups, there was a significant difference for PSS between stressed and non-stressed women (35.24±5.22 and 20.42±5.53, respectively; p=0.001). Given the complexity of these diseases, patients are constantly hospitalized; therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the competence of both patients and caregivers at home to take care of the disease using the program \"discharge plan.\"</p><p><strong>Objective: </strong>To determine the change in care competency following the implementation of the tool \"discharge plan\" in a second-level care facility for in-home care of the chronically ill person and family caregiver dyad.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>Quantitative, quasi-experimental study, with pre-test and post-test design, using the \"Characterization of the patient-caregiver dyad\" form and the \"CUIDAR\" instrument. The population consisted of 62 dyads. Non-probabilistic convenience sampling was used. Pre- and post-delta was calculated, and paired Student t-test was used for comparison.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The \"discharge plan\" program increased the patients' dimensions of Knowledge by a delta of 3.2, Uniqueness by 3.0, and total care competency by 10.3. For this reason, this scoping review aims to establish the workload using the Nursing Activities Score and the factors related to it in Intensive Care Units.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>Qualitative scoping review using the PRISMA statement. Searches were conducted in CINAHL, LILACS, Scopus, Science Direct, SciELO, and PubMed databases.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The final sample consists of 87 texts published between 2007 and 2021. They were classified into five categories: ICU workload, inter-unit comparison, workload related to nursing staff, workload related to patient characteristics, and workload consequences.</p><p><strong>Discussion: </strong>The review reveals a workload greater than 50% in most of the studies due to different factors, but mainly to patients' particular characteristics. No significant difference was observed between general and specialized units; high workloads are a risk factor for adverse events.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>This review shows that nurses are constantly exposed to high workloads. The Steinberg's Parenting Styles Scale and the European Bullying Intervention Project Questionnaire (EBIP-Q) were administered to 563 students from public schools. Scores were obtained by confirmatory factor analysis. Spearman's correlation coefficient, Pearson's Chi-square test, and multinomial logistic regression analysis were used.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>There is an association between parenting styles and adolescents' role in bullying. {"title":"[Palliative care needs of heart failure patients: A mixed-method studyNecessidades de cuidados paliativos de pacientes com insuficiencia cardíaca: um estudo misto].","authors":"Lucely Marisel Fiscal-Idrobo, Priscilla Ospina-Muñoz, Lina María Vargas-Escobar, Maria Cilia Rincon-Buenhombre","doi":"10.15649/cuidarte.2539","DOIUrl":"10.15649/cuidarte.2539","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Introduction: </strong>The presence of physical, psychosocial, and spiritual signs and symptoms should be identified and managed through the palliative care that health care teams and professionals pro vide.</p><p><strong>Objective: </strong>To identify the palliative care needs of people with heart failure, their caregivers, and the multidisciplinary team of a heart failure unit.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>A mixed-method study with a sequential transformative design (DITRAS, for its acronym in Spanish) was conducted. It began with a quantitative phase in which the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (ESAS), the Therapy-Spiritual Well-Being Scale (FACIT-Sp-12), and the Barthel Index were used. The qualitative phase was conducted with three focus groups involving seven patients, eight caregivers, and twelve health professionals from the multidisciplinary team. Elizabeth Lenz's Theory of Unpleasant Symptoms was used as a guideline for this study.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Physiological (edema, fatigue, and dyspnea) and psychological (attitude towards life and enjoyment of hobbies) palliative care needs and situational factors (caregiver dependence and support networks) were identified and could be understood through Lenz's theory.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Palliative care needs in patients with heart failure are presented under a framework of symptoms that patients, caregivers, and the health care team perceive. Health education is a strategy that provides pregnant women with knowledge and skills for self-care.</p><p><strong>Objective: </strong>evaluate the effect of health education interventions on pregnant women's knowledge and self-care practices for hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, compared to standard prenatal care.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>Systematic review and meta-analysis protocol. The study record can be consulted in PROSPERO (CRD42021252401). The search will be conducted in the following databases, PubMed/MEDLINE, CENTRAL, LILACS, CINAHL, EMBASE, and WoS. Additionally, clinical trial records in ClinicalTrials and grey literature in OpenGrey and Google Scholar. The search will include studies of health education intervention in knowledge and self-care practices about hypertensive disorders in pregnancy. All statistical analysis will be carried out with the Review Manager software. Data will be combined using random-effects models, binary data with odds ratios or relative risks, and continuous data using mean differences. {"title":"[Structure of nursing social representations on death due to COVID-19Estructura de las representaciones sociales de enfermería sobre la muerte por CO- VID-19].","authors":"Bruno Neves da Silva, Valéria Gomes-Fernandes-da-Silva, Erika Simone Galvao-Pinto, Nilba Lima-de-Souza, Francisco Arnoldo Nunes-de-Miranda","doi":"10.15649/cuidarte.2558","DOIUrl":"10.15649/cuidarte.2558","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Introduction: </strong>Although it is known that death is part of the life cycle, in the face of a disease with many aspects still unknown, such as COVID-19, it is important to understand how nursing workers represent this phenomenon, since they are the only professionals that continue to care for the individual even after the end of life.</p><p><strong>Objective: </strong>to analyze the structure of social representations about death and dying due to COVID-19 elaborated by nursing professionals.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>qualitative study anchored in the structural aspect of the Theory of Social Representations with emphasis on the Theory of the Central Nucleus, developed with 32 nursing professionals from the city of Natal, state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Data collection was performed online using the free word association technique. For data analysis, prototypical and similarity analyzes were used.
