Technical and vocational training programmes appear to be a remedy for their situation because the approaches of training delivery are practice-oriented. Using experiential learning theory, the article examines the enabling factors for the effectiveness of non-school-based technical and vocational training on skills acquisition. To get a full picture of the enabling factors for the effectiveness, the study used mixed methods research approach. Mixed methods research is an approach that involves a combination or association of both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The study used self-completion questionnaires, one-on-one semi-structured interviews and site observations to collect data from 512 young trainees, 24 training managers and 32 trainers. The findings reveal that the facilitation methods mostly used were the practical sessions in workshops, on-the-job training and workplace-based training. The author concludes that the practice-oriented methods were useful to empower the young trainees to acquire skills and abilities required for immediate employment. The article demonstrates how useful is the experiential learning theory in the delivery of the programmes for skills acquisition. The significant element of this article is the application of four stages of experiential learning theory to non-school-based technical and vocational training. The practical and social implications of the findings are that, while disadvantaged youths cannot access and afford higher education, public and private sectors can remedy their situation by providing non-school-based technical and vocational training to help them entre the labour market. The article is significant because youth growing up in poor households, and without access to opportunities to acquire skills, will have challenges to take care of their families in their adulthood.","PeriodicalId":43208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Technical Education and Training","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44738433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fast growth of information and communication technology (ICT) during the past ten years has increased work opportunities for laborers. This research uses the yearly labor force survey data to study the impact of vocational education and training on decent job opportunities for employees in the context of Vietnam's information and communication technology development. The logit model results indicate that the 2020 rate of decent jobs is still low, at approximately 25.6 percent. However, vocational education and training and the advancement of ICT positively affect decent job opportunities. This long-lasting impact affects laborers in various areas, regions, and industries. These findings suggest that vocational education and training and ICT must play a significant role in transitioning from precarious to more secure employment, so laborers must acquire professional knowledge and information technology skills.","PeriodicalId":43208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Technical Education and Training","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41262802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Adversity is one of the most important abilities for psychological resilience. Workers in the twenty-first century must be able to deal with adversity in a challenging work environment, especially during a pandemic.The purpose of this study was to determine the level of adversity quotient among Malaysian employees during the pandemic period. Different employees' ability adversity quotients have also been compared in terms of gender, race, and age. This study's design is a cross-sectional surveywith 585 respondents from all around Malaysia selected using a convenient sampling technique. A modified version of Dr. Paul G. Stoltz's Adversity Response Profile was employed as instrumentin this study. The data was then analysed with the sum, median, mean, standard deviation, independent-sample t-test, and logistic regression.The findings of the study show that the majority of employees have a high adversity quotient score.In terms of gender, men employees tend to score higher than female employees. Employees aged 50 and over excel those aged 26 and below. However, the adversity quotient score for employees of different races is not significantly different. Employers should eventually take serious concern by implementing the appropriate intervention programme or policy aimed at potential employees in order to overcome their shortcoming in the adversity quotientand, more importantly, to enhance the employee's ability to face challenges in order to drive the company's mission and vision.","PeriodicalId":43208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Technical Education and Training","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43585788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A polytechnic was established in Nigeria to train individuals to learn a specific skill using competent lecturers for employment or self-reliance after graduation.These lecturers are very essential to the quality of students of electrical/ electronic technology in the polytechnics. However, technology dynamism has become a serious challenge for the lecturers to perform their teaching tasks. Hence the need for lecturers to continually improved on their competence and knowledge of the subject matter content they teach.The study is also to identify any difference of competency needed among the institutions. 122 electrical/electronic lecturers from nine universities were purposely selected as respondents for the study whose consisted of 55 lecturers fromfive state polytechnics and 67 lecturers fromfour federal polytechnics. The study adopted survey research design and used structured questionnaire as the main instrument for the data collection. The questionnaires were developed and distributedtorespondents.Mean and improvement needed indexanalysis were used for data analysis to achieve the research objective whilst t-testwas used to test the significance difference between the institutions.It was found that electrical/electronic lecturers in polytechnics need improvement of their competencies related to knowledge and skills in the subject matter. However, there was no significant difference of competency needed between the lecturers in state and federal polytechnics on the teaching subject matter. The implication of the finding is that the location of the lecturers did not significantly affect their opinion in the competencies.In conclusion, lecturers of electrical/electronic technology from the polytechnics has low competency in executing technical task assigned to them within the study area which required adequate investigation by determining the competencies of lecturers who happen to be the main implementers of the electrical/electronic programme. Therefore, it isrecommended that the schools administrators should continually organized workshop and training for lecturers to build their capacity in order for the lecturers to always develop their competencies to effectively teach the contents of the subject assigned to them.","PeriodicalId":43208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Technical Education and Training","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47579293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method was the implementation of distance learning with an experimental demonstration method to 40 vocational students through three stages, namely given a pre-test; given an instructional video, and given a post-test. The learningprocess carried out was assisted by a learning video containing basic theory, experiments, and the application of ionic liquids. In this case, we taughtthe concept of manufacturing ionic liquid and its application in the industrial world that will be useful for vocational students when they graduate. The results showedthat the experimental demonstration method succeeded in improving student learning outcomes because of an increase in the score between the pre-test and post-test scores. This success is because students are taught through unique learning media such asa learning video. This learning videosucceeded in increasing students' understanding because the information in the video was presented attractively to stimulate students' curiosity and interest in the subject. In addition, students' responses to the learning video werethat they became moreenthusiastic aboutlearning because the content delivered relatesto the vocational training that they are learning, the video display is attractive, and the videos are easily accessible. Furthermore, the impact of the learning video on industrial applications is that the information conveyed in the video can be an alternative to making environmentally friendly solvents and solutions to improve the quality of bamboo as one of the materials used in industry. The addition of an experimental demonstration using commercially available materials also attracts students more because it motivates them to try it themselves. This study shows that experimental demonstration is effectively used in learning and fosters sustainability values in students.","PeriodicalId":43208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Technical Education and Training","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43286609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PWDs canengage in many economic activities in Pakistan, however, in general, the employment rate for PWDs is relatively low. Qualitative research was used to ascertain insight into a central phenomenon. Data was collected through interviews and observation from five different workplaces through purposive sampling, and a thematic analysis technique was used to analyze the data. The participants were 50 years or less and were mainly men who had worked with people with disabilities for 2-5 years The study revealed that the major issue of employers was their perception that PWDs were less productive than those employees without a disability. Learning practical courses such as Culinary Arts via online without application or practical work generated bigger challenges for HEIs. It was emphasised that Culinary Arts education depends predominantly on hands-on application and training. The purpose of this study is to investigate Culinary Arts program students’ acceptance with online learning methods (hands-on learning at home) and how the Big Five Personality Traits (BFPT) could have an impact on the relationship. A total of 234 responses from Culinary Arts based program students of six (6) HEIs in Malaysia were obtained and analysed using SPSSstatistical software. Findings showed that students were able to accept the transition in learning from face-to-face to online learning. However, it was found that BFPT did not have a significant moderating impact on the relationship between Learning Transition and Online Learning Acceptance. The results could help HEIs in adapting to the new Learning Transition without compromising the quality of the graduates and the curriculum set by the institutions. In addition, the results of this study could enhance further investigations on Online Learning Acceptance to a wider scope and type of study programs.","PeriodicalId":43208,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Technical Education and Training","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49112479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
