As part of a model study funded by the Baden-Wuerttemberg Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration, it was possible to demonstrate how a hygiene and safety concept can be successfully implemented in practice using the example of the opening and operation of an amusement park in Baden-Wuerttemberg (Germany) under scientific supervision.

Objective: The aim of the model project was, besides the verification of a possible infection event through a visit to the amusement park, to develop and review a recommended course of action for the safe opening and operation of leisure facilities under pandemic conditions, which can be transferred to other destinations.

Methods: A variety of data sources were used for this project: Recurrent expert rounds of multidisciplinary teams (business administration, healthcare research, sociology and medicine), aerosol measurement data, observation protocols, official infection statistics and interview data from visitor surveys.

Results: The action plan developed in this project provides guidance and recommendations for operators of recreation and leisure facilities to implement measures that enhance staff and guest safety, allowing facilities to operate under pandemic conditions.

Conclusion: This study sets a precedent using the example of a recreational park in Baden-Wuerttemberg (Germany) to serve as a guide for other facilities; however, operations in the leisure and tourism sector are unique and measures are accordingly difficult to transfer directly. The recommended action plan is further intended to support policy makers in future pandemic situations regarding measures to close, open and operate such facilities.
","PeriodicalId":43038,"journal":{"name":"Zentralblatt fur Arbeitsmedizin Arbeitsschutz und Ergonomie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9540292/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"10622859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

How well OHS is organized and how measures are actually implemented are not yet empirically known. This gap was closed with an epidemiological study on the status quo.

Material and methods: In the second half of 2020 a total of 120 managers of day care centers in Germany, mostly church-run, which are member companies of the German Statutory Accident Insurance and Prevention in the Health and Welfare Services (BGW), were randomly selected and interviewed. This was done by members of the BGW prevention services using a standardized survey instrument. The surveyed aspects (mostly concerning the OHS organization) were summarized in a standardized sum index between 0 and 1 (worst to best occupational health and safety) and analyzed descriptively.

Results: The requirements for the organization of OHS were fulfilled in many cases. There is still some potential left for improvement in the actual implementation of organized OHS requirements. The standardized sum index is 0.82 (standard deviation 0.16). Of the respondents two thirds rated OHS in their day care center as good/very good in a global item. In free texts, the desire for more information on OHS and better communication between the day care center and the respective provider was frequently expressed.

Discussion and outlook: The results confirmed a higher formal quality of OHS as found in other cross-sectional studies. To continuously improve the actual implementation of organized measures, OHS management systems, which are still rarely used in day care centers, could have a supporting effect. Corresponding instruments are available and their use should be more strongly promoted in the future. Limitations of the study include possible bias due to responses to representatives of an institution that is also responsible for OHS inspections.
","PeriodicalId":43038,"journal":{"name":"Zentralblatt fur Arbeitsmedizin Arbeitsschutz und Ergonomie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8815014/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39901284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result of the lockdown, training possibilities were mostly limited to nonspecific home-based training methods. It is unclear whether the lack of sport-specific stimuli led to a reduction in the physical performance of soccer players.

Methods: For the narrative review, the PubMed, Google Scholar and BISp-Surf databases were selectively searched for studies examining the effects of the lockdown on physical performance parameters in adult professional soccer players.

Results: In this review six prospective longitudinal studies were included. In all studies home-based training was performed during quarantine. Of the studies four compared the performance of the soccer players with data from previous seasons and two studies assessed the performance of players immediately before and after the lockdown period.

Discussion: While general strength and endurance performances can be maintained through home-based substitute training programs, the studies indicated that the lack of football-specific stimuli could have an impact on the rapid power and speed performances of soccer players. The COVID-19 pandemic and its far-reaching consequences, accelerated climate change and digitalization are huge challenges for health and health protection in the world of work as well. They require a deeper reflection of the professional understanding and the conceptual framework that underlie the term health, beyond current considerations. With this objective, thought-provoking impulses for a contemporary understanding of health, for health protection in the world of work, priorities for the protection needs of employees and suggestions for related research are presented for discussion. Based on the physical, mental and social dimensions of health and their manifold relations to the world of work, the article provides innovative impulses for the development and prioritization of questions for scientific studies on the protection and promotion of health in the workplace and for evaluating the significance and quality of the results of these studies for modern preventive occupational health and safety, which contribute both to the humane design of work and to the relief of the social security systems.
