Future generations are timeless entities with intertemporal characteristics. The chapter is based on theoretical contributions with respect to intergenerational justice, intergenerational democracy and addressing future generations using present legal rights. Thus, sustainability in entrepreneurship is explained from an intergenerational perspective with a focus on its normative character in a socio-economic context. The chapter also contemplates whether justice or democracy should prevail in relation to future generations. The understanding of sustainability in relation to future generations and its refinement to address planetary boundaries, wellbeing and human needs is discussed and is linked to sustainable entrepreneurship and to the creation of entrepreneurial opportunities which detract from this new understanding of sustainability and the voice of future generations. In this chapter, enterprises and organizations are viewed as transgenerational communities for future generations. Feminist legal scholars were among the first to study gender-based persecution and did so by analyzing cases to reveal the legal logic that immigration officials used to grant or deny claims. This chapter outlines a qualitative mixed method approach to studying gender-based asylum claims. The mixed method approach used in this study included interviews, observations of immigration court asylum hearings, and content analysis of asylum applications. The value of using a mixed method approach is that it offers data that illuminates the process of how gender-based asylum claims are adjudicated. I argue that qualitative mixed methods help to paint a broader picture of the dynamics of the asylum process in the U.S. that contribute to understanding why cases are granted or denied. Many researchers and activists, however, have pointed to the fact that these laws and conventions were drafted on the basis of the situation of male refugees, ignoring the specific forms of violence and persecution experienced by women. And that, moreover, their application is often undermined by deeply gendered practices which fail to offer protection to women because their persecution is not recognised as such. These interpretations of refugee law through the bias of the experiences of male refugees and asylum applicants and their activities has both reflected and reinforced existing gender biases within states. The continuing gendered division of labour within most societies, as well as an underlying assumption of a ‘public-private’ division, undermines the gender neutrality of refugee law and practice by creating situations in which women’s experience of political activity or of persecution is not seen as relevant to the law. This means that issues such as the threat of forced marriage, for example, are often not considered seriously as grounds for granting asylum or may be assigned to ‘cultural differences’ which are part of the order of things.
