This legal framework sustains the racialised exclusion of Global South people, preserving remnants of early global efforts to contain disease in colonial spaces in the pursuit of furthering global trade. Tracing the historical trajectory of access to medicines from racialised colonial efforts aimed at disease containment to the modern intellectual property regime reveals how global health law, as a postcolonial technology, reinforces racialised hierarchies and associated structural vulnerabilities, but may also offer emancipatory promises. But to what extent can this emancipatory promise provide a platform for transformative structural change in global health? Through the scholarship on reparative justice, this article argues that reparations are a necessary intervention to address inequities in global health. In order to be effective, reparations must go beyond acknowledging past injustices to instituting material changes in global health through new international agreements that centre the global south, reforming structures to enable vaccine manufacturing in the global south and greater south-south collaborations to tackle a culture of dependency.</p>","PeriodicalId":42994,"journal":{"name":"Cambridge International Law Journal","volume":"14 1","pages":"4-29"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2025-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7618657/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"146020139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is because of the significant impact of meat, the huge role of individuals in food choice, and the inequalities observed. Behaviour change about food is often underestimated, but because individuals have greater agency than in other sectors, it has huge potential. The case of Denmark shows that consumer trends can ultimately contribute to triggering a policy turn-around in a country. Research from the case exemplifies that rather than ‘the consumer’ there are diverse consumer segments. It also shows that processing scepticism among greener segments could be a hindrance to market development. We suggest that as we advance, research should explore individual consumer change pathways and the best sequence of different stakeholder market and policy actions in sustainability transitions to further plant-rich eating that contributes to achieving the SDGs.","PeriodicalId":42994,"journal":{"name":"Cambridge International Law Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"224-236"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147921806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Energy cartels are able to exert significant influence over global energy markets, including manipulating prices and supply levels to their advantage, because of the centrality of energy resources in the economies, geopolitics, and environmental sustainability of the global system. There are subsisting debates about the relevance or otherwise of energy cartels in the matrix of the global energy landscape. The debates tend to revolve around the pros and cons of energy cartels and reflect support or opposition to them. This entry provides an overview of the current state of the art in the context of the energy landscape.","PeriodicalId":42994,"journal":{"name":"Cambridge International Law Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"131-133"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147920112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These disputes center, not on the dangers of markets per se, but on the dangers of exchanging particular items and activities through the marketplace. Proponents of MLM theories thus do not want to eliminate markets entirely, but instead seek to identify the moral and ethical boundaries of the marketplace by considering which goods and services are inappropriate for market trading. This chapter summarizes and categorizes some of the more important arguments within this debate, with a focus on recent research, controversies, and applications, particularly when relatively recent empirical or theoretical work may shed new light on a topic. Specifically, I focus on crowding out, corruption, leaving a space for altruism, equality, and a trio of related debates regarding paternalism (coercion, unjust inducement, and exploitation).","PeriodicalId":42994,"journal":{"name":"Cambridge International Law Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"222-235"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147913711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
