Luciano Berriatúa made in 1975 the only film adaptation of El Bus-cón de Quevedo. It follows the literary text, maintaining the essentials to make it recognizable. The most relevant aspects are the construction of the dialogues, the narrative form it adopts, the correspondences, alterations, deletions and additions, including those of other Golden Age authors who are not in the hypotext. We high-light the use of cinematographic transitions because they provide a sequentiality that the novel does not have. In this study these aspects are analyzed and, in addition, the social question is considered, which in the film maintains the Quevedian idea of denying social ascent, but with a vindication of his rogue status and with a criticism of the noble class.","PeriodicalId":42908,"journal":{"name":"Hipogrifo-Revista de literatura y cultura del Siglo de Oro","volume":"50 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73862410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Golden Age is one of the most complex and interesting periods of Spanish literature. The 16 th and 17 th centuries were the time of innovation since, from them, a literary tradition was born such as had not been seen before: writers and printers soon gave themselves over to experimentation, in every sense of the word. The purpose of this article is to study a paper printed in Madrid in 1658 that contains a pastoral colloquium, about Christmas, and three villancicos. The most outstanding aspects of the colloquium will be analyzed: actions represented, characters, the influence of biblical texts... The objective is to elucidate how close the work is to the Christmas dramatic tradition, so typical of the plays written during the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. On the other hand, the carols that end the performance will also be analyzed. These texts show a remarkable particularity in terms of authorship, which could difficult to accurately assign them to one of the subgenres of religious poetry.","PeriodicalId":42908,"journal":{"name":"Hipogrifo-Revista de literatura y cultura del Siglo de Oro","volume":"50 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84954854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A pesar de los años que separan la obra de estas visionarias, profundizo en el estudio de una serie de características compartidas por ambas: el profetismo como una de las dos posibilidades de la predicación femenina medieval, la liturgia como causa y escenario colectivo de la revelación y, por último, la visión como una forma de exégesis bíblica. Ello me permite definir un marco de referencia cronológico y teórico que posibilitará el estudio de la predicación femenina como una tradición europea en un futuro cercano.","PeriodicalId":42908,"journal":{"name":"Hipogrifo-Revista de literatura y cultura del Siglo de Oro","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135938742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A quantitative and comparative study of the employment of space-time frames of proximity, as information registered in electronic databases, in the plays of the CANON 60 collection of Spanish Golden Age drama, in the selected English plays in the EMOTHE project, as well as in the «comedias» of Lope de Vega and of Calderón de la Barca, and the commercial plays by William Shakespeare and by Ben Jonson. The space-time frame of proximity is defined as the geographical and chronological setting of the play’s story that is located, in whole or in part, in the territory, state or country (and its capital city) to which the early spectators belong, and in a culturally contemporaneous period. The electronic databases consulted are those of the projects EMOTHE, ARTELOPE and CALDERÓN DIGITAL. This pre-liminary study, which also relates the use of these space-time frames with dramatic genres, seeks to contribute to a comparative history of the classics of European theatre, seen a cultural heritage of all Europeans.","PeriodicalId":42908,"journal":{"name":"Hipogrifo-Revista de literatura y cultura del Siglo de Oro","volume":"24 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82395071","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Teresa de Jesús was very fond of celebrating liturgical feasts and introduced this tradition in the primitive foundations. She herself composed villanci-cos, lyrical poems for various festivities but also for professions and taking of habit. The convents of the recent Reformed Carmel celebrated the different milestones of the liturgical year with music, theater and poetry, especially Christmas, but also the professions of the nuns and other festivals such as Corpus Christi, those of certain saints or invocations of the Virgin Mary, among other. Many Carmelites took up the pen, following in the footsteps of the foundress, and wrote hundreds of texts to brighten up these festivities, most of them unpublished. The task of discovering these texts is an exciting one, and contributes to the recovery of a unique heritage of our Golden Age: the forgotten literature written by women.","PeriodicalId":42908,"journal":{"name":"Hipogrifo-Revista de literatura y cultura del Siglo de Oro","volume":"3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86413261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The literary genre of the Spanish romances of chivalry (16th-17th centuries) preserves many monstrous categories of medieval chivalric literature. However, its giants, dwarves, dragons, savages and hybrids coexist with beings with Greco-Latin roots, such as basilisks, centaurs and minotaurs. To these we can add the pygmies, extraordinary race of men of small dimensions that makes its appearance, under the name of “pineos”, in the last of its original printed titles: Policisne de Boecia (1602) by Juan de Silva y de Toledo. However, because many portents from the classical teratological tradition appear in the Spanish romances of chivalry showing figurative changes and/or meaning derived from their passage through the Middle Ages, it is worth asking whether the pineos of the Policisne are crossed or not by the transforming gaze of medieval times, in addition to the particular perspective on the marvelous human beings of the genre itself. This is precisely the question that guides this article, which seeks to analyze their appearance and behavior, in order to determine their senses; degree of fidelity to their ancient precedents, and whether or not they exhibit traces of medieval reconceptualization of fabulous Greco-Roman creatures.","PeriodicalId":42908,"journal":{"name":"Hipogrifo-Revista de literatura y cultura del Siglo de Oro","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87114586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
