Abstract
. A quantitative and comparative study of the employment of space-time frames of proximity, as information registered in electronic databases, in the plays of the CANON 60 collection of Spanish Golden Age drama, in the selected English plays in the EMOTHE project, as well as in the «comedias» of Lope de Vega and of Calderón de la Barca, and the commercial plays by William Shakespeare and by Ben Jonson. The space-time frame of proximity is defined as the geographical and chronological setting of the play’s story that is located, in whole or in part, in the territory, state or country (and its capital city) to which the early spectators belong, and in a culturally contemporaneous period. The electronic databases consulted are those of the projects EMOTHE, ARTELOPE and CALDERÓN DIGITAL. This pre-liminary study, which also relates the use of these space-time frames with dramatic genres, seeks to contribute to a comparative history of the classics of European theatre, seen a cultural heritage of all Europeans.
